6 All Saints List 2012 In the early church it became customary to remember the martyrs of the church in worship. When the list of martyrs became too great, a special day was set aside to remember their commitment to Christ, a commitment that led to their suffering and death for the sake of the gospel. Although different areas of the church celebrated the memory of these saints on different days at first, by A.D. 835 it became the custom to celebrate these martyrs on November 1. Today, All Saints Day is celebrated on November 1 or the Sunday closest to it. *Robert Bain *Ruth Blackstock Jay Bowling Ina Carr *Vera Casner *Joseph Dickey *John W. 9 Financial News Good news! At the end of the third quarter on September 30, the good financial news continues. Both pledge and non-pledge donations are very close to the amount budgeted year-to-date. Total income is under budget because our interest income is down because we are using some of our principal to fund the budget shortfall. Expenses year-to-date are also still less than budgeted. While I cannot predict what the remainder of the year will bring, I am confident that we will all continue to do everything we can to make the year-end deficit less than budgeted. You can help by continuing to keep current with your pledge, making extra gifts whenever possible, continuing to pray for North Church, and by paying your per capita if you have not already done so. After closely examining pledges vs. pledges paid, the Finance Committee decided to not send out Giving Statements as of September 30 th. This saves us the cost of a ream of paper and about 300 first-class stamps! If you have any questions about your pledge and other giving, please contact Ann Eisenlord at or anneisenlord@roadrunner.com and we will print your giving statement. This good report is possible because you have listened as we have asked you to do everything possible to keep your pledge up to date. I want to thank all of you on behalf of the Session and the Finance Committee. Ann Eisenlord, Church Treasurer Alternative Christmas Marketplace Are you looking for Christmas gifts for people who don t need more stuff? Do you want to give a gift that will be different and yet life changing? Honor your loved ones by helping those who have real needs.
