WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD Prelude Prelude and Fugue in G Major Bach Etude Tableau Opus 33 #8 Rachmaninoff Greeting, Welcome, and Opportunities for Discipleship Welcome to our guests and visitors! We invite you, if you feel comfortable, to introduce yourself at this time. We are glad you are here. We hope you will fill out the welcome pad (found in the pew holder) to help us get acquainted. We also invite you to join us today in the Dickinson Room for coffee hour following worship. Everyone please silence your cell phones. Choral Introit Come with Rejoicing Leaf Call to Worship O God, who called all life into being, the earth, sea and sky are yours. Your presence is all around us, every atom is full of your energy. Your Spirit enlivens all who walk the earth, with her we yearn for justice to be done, for creation to be freed from bondage, for the hungry to be fed, for captives to be released, for your kingdom of peace to come on earth Invocation *Hymn 14 For the Beauty of the Earth (During the singing of the hymn, please pass Joys & Concerns to center aisle.) *Call to Confession *Prayer of Confession God of birth, God of joy, God of life, we come to you as a people hungry for good news. We have been so dead to miracles that we have missed the world s rebirth. We have preoccupied ourselves with pleasures and have overlooked the joy you offer us. We have been so concerned with making a living that we have missed the life you set among us. Forgive us, gracious God. Open our eyes

and our hearts to receive your gift; open our lips and hands to share it with all humanity in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. *Time for Silent Confession *Assurance of Forgiveness Hear the good news! God loves us. God forgives us. *Response *Passing of the Peace Having received Christ s peace, let us share it by turning to our neighbors and greeting them, saying May the peace of Christ be with you!

Children s Time (After Children s Time, children may be dismissed to Sunday School in the north basement, room N109.) Anthem Love One Another Bell Prayer for Illumination WE HEAR THE WORD OF GOD Scripture Reading Romans 12:9-21 p.162 Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. Thanks be to God. Sermon Radical Love The Rev. Beth P. Hennessy WE RESPOND AND GIVE THANKS TO GOD *Affirmation of Faith We believe in a bright and amazing God, who has been to the depths of despair on our behalf; who has risen in splendor and majesty; who decorates the universe with sparkling water, clear white light, twinkling stars and bright colors, over and over again. We believe that Jesus is the light of the world; that God believes in us, and trusts us, even though we make the same mistakes over and over again. We commit ourselves to Jesus, to one another as sisters and brothers, and to the Maker s business in the world. God said: Let there be light! Amen. ( The Iona Community from The Iona Abbey Worship Book, published by Wild Goose Publications, Iona Community, Fourth Floor, Savoy House, 140 Sauchiehall St., Glasgow G2 3DH, UK) *Hymn 316 Where Charity and Love Prevail Prayers of the People Offering Offertory: Etude Opus 25 #5 Chopin

*Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow: Praise God all creatures high and low. Alleluia, alleluia! Praise God, in Jesus fully known: Creator, Word, and Spirit one. Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! Lasst uns erfreuen Hymn 609 *Prayer of Thanksgiving and The Lord s Prayer The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. as Christ teaches us to pray, saying: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. WE DISPERSE TO SERVE GOD IN THE WORLD *Hymn 772 Live into Hope *Charge *Benediction *Congregational Amen Hymn 568 **Postlude Nocturne, Opus 72 #1 Chopin March from Love for 3 Oranges Prokofiev *Those who are able, please stand. **Please remain seated for postlude.

REACT SERIES: THE NUCLEAR THREAT IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD Forty miles south of here, at a long-defunct nuclear fuel reprocessing plant, the state and federal governments are on the verge of a decision about how much removal of the buried nuclear wastes will be done. Will the cleanup protect our water and health? The Congressional West Valley Demonstration Project Act of 1980 declared that the high-level waste would be removed, but the devil is in the details. How can we express our views on this? What kinds of actions can we take? Grab a cup of coffee and come to a 50-minute PowerPoint presentation on the West Valley nuclear site in the church library after the 10:15 a.m. service on May 20. GIRL SCOUT SERVICE FAIR AT NORTH Girl Scout Troop 30613, which is led by North Church member Heather Maldonado and meets at North Church, invites everyone to its service fair in Westminster Hall on Sunday, May 20, from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. The event is free. Tables will display their favorite charities. You can help them raise money for these great causes by donating. You will be able to support such causes as animal conservation, cancer research (Roswell), and veterans. There may even be some Girl Scout cookies for sale! A BIG THANK YOU FROM THE "PENNY MAN" Jonathan Roesser wants to thank his North Church family for being so generous over the years with contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Pennies for Patients" program. To date he has collected more than $3, almost entirely in pennies! Won't you please bring in your extra pennies to church for the next six weeks and give them to Jonathan or place them in the labeled container in the church office to help him boost his total for another year? Many thanks!
