We trust in God. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God s presence, to live with respect in creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. Ruth/Mary Circle The Ruth/Mary Circle will meet Jan. 8., 2013, at 9:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Village in Bldg. 1. Giving Tree Response Beautifully wrapped gifts from under the Giving Tree filled three cars when they were delivered before Christmas. Lovely thank you notes from both agencies have been received. Kim, the director of Homespace, said, You do an amazing job every single year, and we are so thankful to you and all at North Presbyterian Church. Bill Larson from St. Brigid s Food Pantry let us know that our contributions enabled them to help nearly 200 families. Thank you all for the generous support of this annual event at North Church. Pastor Bill vacation Pastor Hennessy will be away on vacation from Tuesday, December 25, through Tuesday, January 1. COLLAGE Church School for both Generations Why did God create the family anyway? Peter Martin will lead a discussion on Kickball, a short DVD from the NOOMA series led by Rob Bell. We will discuss how God created the family unit as a way of our knowing God, ourselves, and each other better. We ll meet from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the North Basement Room 101. This program will be meeting on the first Sunday of the month for the rest of the program year. Hope to see you all on January 6!

8 Registration Deadline for Youth Summer Trips The registration deadline for our two exciting summer trips is coming up on January 6 (with a special note to our adults) Mission Project to Dallas, Texas, for any youth who will be at least 14 years old at the time of the trip, flying down June 30 and flying back either Friday, July 6, or Saturday, July 7, depending on flight prices. Note to Adults: for the Dallas trip we need adults too! Please consider this opportunity to serve an awesome ministry in the city of Dallas and even more importantly, spend a week serving alongside our young people. Triennium Youth Conference meeting on Purdue University Campus in West Lafayette, Indiana, for all youth who are currently in 8th-12th grade, July 15-July 20. All the details and paperwork are on our website. New Bible Study All are welcome to come to a new Bible study on Sunday mornings at 9:30 in the Resource Room. The class will continue through the spring. A Big Thank-You to all our Church School Teacher Sign-ups During the past month we've posted about our needs for the third session of Church School (January and early February); the congregation has delivered by filling all eight spots. Thank you so much for supporting the children's program. Stay tuned as we will start to advertise our needs for Session 4 (late February and March).

9 New Adult Ed. Offerings: 9:30 a.m. Sunday mornings Judith (January 6 and 20, and Feb. 3 and 10 in the library) may be found in the Apocryphal books (between the Old and New Testaments) or at (the Revised Standard Version). This DVD program will be led by Dr. Lisa Wolf, assistant professor of Hebrew Bible at Oklahoma City University. Discussion will follow each week. Find out how Judith compares with other uppity Biblical women: Rebekah, Tamar, Rahab, and Deborah. Themes include: The Real King Antiochus, Besieged, Judith s Plan, An Unlikely Hero, Piety and Violence, and The Art of Artemesia. Root Causes of Poverty: Mission Priority #1 (Jan. 13 and 20, and Feb. 3 and Feb. 10 in S251) Larry Moir will highlight our series on the root causes of poverty on January 13 with a presentation based on his work as a teacher at the Bethel Evangelical Secondary School in Ethiopia. The highly regarded high school is located about 200 miles west of Addis Ababa in the bread basket of Ethiopia. It is an institution of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus. The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus has been an independent church for more than 50 years, and a long-standing partner of our denomination. Larry and Barbara Moir taught English in Ethiopia from 2009 through 2011, before moving to Youngstown, NY. Both Barbara and Larry received degrees from SUNY Brockport and Larry from Colgate Rochester Divinity before their careers as teacher and minister took them from Northern New York to West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
