The reader might well be surprised at the grumbling of the people against Moses; after all, God had delivered them from Egypt. It appears the are really dissatisfied with God and ask, Is the Lord in our midst or not? The response of God to Moses; plea is an unconditional Gesture concern for the people. Our of a lifeless rock, in the middle of a desert God provides living water. This happened at Massah (which means testing ) and Meribah (which means dissatisfaction ); but the greater meaning of this place is found in the intervention of God on behalf of a people thirsting for life. Second Reading: R o m a n s 5 : 1-2, 5-8 Paul s theology of justification occurs a number of times in his letters. One aspect of his teaching is that this justification is not merited by believers; it is pure grace and comes from God through Jesus Christ. In fact, we were sinners and still God has chosen to save us. This grace is the love of God that is poured into our hearts. This baptismal imagery reflects Paul s understanding that it is through baptism that we enter into the life, Death, and Resurrection of Christ. Gospel: J o h n 4 : This is the first of the three great stories of John that take us toward the end of Lent. The baptismal imagery is obvious and the conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman is layered with meanings. Jesus stops at the well of Jacob because he is thirsty; but it is the woman who is refreshed. Through the course of the conversation Jesus identifies himself with one of the I am statements that will occur in the Gospel accounts for the next two Sundays. He becomes the source of a new life for the woman and she becomes an evangelist, bearing the news that she has found the Messiah.

They call us to think of more than how Jesus sacrificed himself for our sins: In praying the stations we imagine ourselves walking with Jesus on this journey. There appears to be a significant interest and opportunity to provide cremation interment at the pilot parishes. This demand is sufficient to establish and staff a diocesan department, which could later expand the cremation offerings to all parishes. There is more significant demand for full body burial than expected. We want your feedback if you plan on sailing away with us next year. Our 3 choices are: Japan Cruise Alaskan Cruise Australia/New Zealand Cruise We have decided to go with the location that the majority of the people who are participating want to travel to. Actual dates and times will be available once the 2018 schedule is out. A similar portion feel ill-informed about end-of-life arrangements. A surprising number are still considering burial options 60%. 96% stated that they would like to use the parish church for their Vigil or Funeral Mass. There was overwhelming support for options within the grounds of the church 88%. There was also a significant interest in memorializing other family members who were interred elsewhere 70%. Families would like to receive more information either by a parish presentation or by mail. Results confirm that financial issues are not a significant motivation. Capital Campaign Update! 6 Aloha friends, Two bills (SB501 & SB1129) have passed in the Senate and are now going through the House. SB501 is called the "Bully Bill" because it targets prolife pregnancy centers and forces them to post information stating where women can get abortions. Pro-life pregnancy counseling centers provide a safety net for pregnant women who do not want to go to an abortion provider for information on their pregnancy. Please support the Christian men and women who operate these centers by calling your state representative and ask them to protect the religious freedom and vote NO on this bill. SB1129 is the assisted suicide bill. Friends, there is no aloha in suicide. Once it becomes legalized, it becomes death on demand. Safeguards do not work. It cheapens life, opens up the door for abuse of the elderly and the infirm and threatens the most vulnerable among us. Please contact the House representatives on them to vote NO on both of these bills.
