Peter speaks to them of God s impartiality and acceptance of all who believe. God s Word alive in Jesus Christ extends to all Jew and Gentile alike. Those who hear the Word are welcomed into the community of faith. They, too receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. At the end of the reading, Peter questions whether anyone can withhold the baptismal waters from Cornelius and his household. They were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for God s grace knows no bounds. That is why it is grace. Second Reading : 1 John 4: 7-10 Love and God are intimately connected. Love comes from God. Love became flesh in Jesus Christ who suffered, died, and rose. From the love of God s Son came life life for us through him. This, the author of 1 John defines as love. It is what God does for us. It is the expiation of our sins through his Son. When we love God and one another, we link ourselves directly to God. We know God. Gospel : John 15: 9-17 Today s Gospel passage follows immediately in John s account from where the Gospel on the Fifth Sunday of Easter ended. Love is the theme connecting all of today s readings. The Father loves the Son. The Father s Son loves his disciples to the point he considers his disciples friends. His commandment is love; love one another. In love, we as his disciples bring forth fruit into the world.

3 6th Sunday of Easter This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one s life for one s friend. John 15: Do you love Jesus? Do you consider Him your friend? Jesus says that if we love Him we would willing to offer whatever we have to Him, not because we want praise and glory, but simply because we love Him. Make sure to contact the St. Jude office with any questions you may have regarding attire, mass times, sponsor changes, etc. Rehearsal Times: May 7 at 7PM: for children getting confirmed at 11AM mass on 5/20 May 14 at 7PM: for children getting confirmed at 5PM mass on 5/20 Come with your children and their sponsors! Saturday, May 19th at 5pm and on Sunday the 20th, at the 11am & 5pm es. In total, 264 Candidates will be Confirmed that weekend, and we ask you to please keep them all in your prayers! Be advised however, that with such a large number, along with the addition of their sponsors and families, these es will be at full capacity and quite lengthy.
