While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off. When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well. The slaves of the householder came to him and said, Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from? He answered, An enemy has done this. His slaves said to him, Do you want us to go and pull them up? He replied, No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn. -- Matthew 13:24-30 It s great to have you here once again at St. Jude. 5 Confused About the Kingdom of Heaven By: Kristina M. DeNeve Adult Faith Formation Coordinator Diocese of Honolulu Most of my adult life, I have struggled to understand what Jesus means about the Kingdom of Heaven. When and where is he talking? To help me, I try to remember something I once heard, that the Kingdom of Heaven exists in the here and now; the Kingdom is our responsibility today. (Dare I say, our responsibility as stewards?!) The Kingdom exists any moment we allow the Holy Spirit to work through us. I try to remember this whenever I hear a Gospel like today s and feel confused about Jesus message. And, then too, I also think of Vatican II, to one of the few passages I basically know by heart. In Lumen Gentium (The Dogmatic Constitution on the Church) we are told that the laity, by their vocation, seek the kingdom of God by engaging in temporal affairs led by the spirit of the Gospel, (the laity) may work for the sanctification of the world from within as a leaven (No. 31). Jesus and the Church Fathers are talking about you and me! WE are yeast in the world, bringing about God s Kingdom in the here and now! Stewardship Worship is giving God the best that He has given you. Be careful what you do with the best you have. Whenever you get a blessing from God, give it back to Him as a love gift. Take time to meditate before God and offer the blessing back to Him in a deliberate act of worship. If you hoard a thing for yourself, it will turn into spiritual dry rot, as the manna did when it was hoarded. God will never let you hold a spiritual thing for yourself; it has to be given back to Him that He may make it a blessing to others. -- Author: Oswald Chambers Dear St. Jude Parishioners, July 9, 2014 Here s the latest update on our 25 th Anniversary Directory. The proofs arrived on July 3 rd and we are in the process of checking names and spelling. Once we are done proofing, we will send it back to Lifetouch to publish. The time line for printing is 4-6 weeks once they receive it. We are still looking at the directories to be delivered in September. There has been some confusion as to the ads that were sold for the directory. The ads were purchased by local businesses who out of the kindness of their hearts wanted to support St. Jude and our 25 th Anniversary. The money raised was used to offset the cost for the additional pages used to showcase our ministries. Our hope is that you remember these businesses when you are looking for services that you may need since they have supported our church. It would be nice if you mentioned to them that you saw their ad in our directory. A copy of the directory is free to all those individuals and families who either provided a photo or were photographed by Lifetouch at St. Jude.
