Go to the packet your child needs; Pre-K-8; Pre-First Communion; First Communion; RCIC; Confirmation 4. Download the complete packet (including Parent Handbook, calendar, Emergency form, registration form, etc.) 5. Read the packet carefully and be sure to answer all questions. Please pay attention to the sentences in red. 6. Return the forms (except calendar and parent Handbook) to the office with the registration fee. Fee includes meals, accident insurance, access to public transportation, a backpack (with a t-shirt, hat, Madrid guidebook, handbook of all World Youth Day activities, and other useful items), free entrance to all World Youth Day cultural activities (concerts, exhibits, museum visits, etc.), and priority access to all areas reserved for registered participants at central acts and ceremonies. The fee also includes a donation to the Solidarity Fund. This Fund has been set up to facilitate the participation of young people from countries with economic difficulties and to ensure that people from all parts of the world have the opportunity to participate. Even if you are not traveling on the Diocesan Pilgrimage, we highly encourage your group to register for the World Youth Day activities through the diocese. Cause for Beatification and Canonization of Mother Henreitte Delille Moves Forward From Sr. Eva Regina Martin, SSF Mother Henriette Delille is now Venerable. The Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family announced on March 27, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI approved the decree saying that the Christian virtues were lived heroically by Mother Henriette Delille, a freeborn woman of African descent in 19th century New Orleans who founded the Sisters of the Holy Family, a congregation of black sisters. The final version of the positio for the alleged miracle is being prepared by postulator, Dr. Andrea Ambrosi, in Rome. The Sisters ask that you join their prayers that this outcome will be validated as an act of God s intervention so that Henreitte can bedeclared Blessed. He said to them, When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and not subject us to the final test. Luke 11:2-4 Page 4

5 Scripture Insights What is God like? The Genesis reading, in which God is pictured as a human being, limited in knowledge, teaches that God is just. Luke s reading teaches that God is both intimate and transcendent, to be hallowed. How does your concept of God relate to these teachings? Notice, in the reading from Genesis that God is not pictured as all-knowing. God has heard things; he has to go down and find out if these things are true. When God is pictured as a human being, this is called an anthropomorphic concept of God. However, the focus of the story changes from whether what God has heard is true to whether God is just. Would God destroy a whole city, even if innocent people were within that city? Abraham asks this question. Each time Abraham confronts this anthropomorphic God with the question, God admits that he would not destroy the innocent along with the guilty. The story teaches that God is just. We learn more about God when Jesus teaches the disciples how to pray. Jesus instructs them to address God as Father, as a loving parent who wants to be in intimate relationship with the disciples. At the same time, God is totally transcendent one to be adored and glorified. And so the disciples are to pray, Hallowed be thy name. This just, intimate, and transcendent God is also forgiving, and of course, because God forgives us, we must forgive each other. A loving and involved parent wants to respond to a child s needs. Therefore, we should ask God for whatever we need. Finally, we must remember that God will always respond, not only for our good, but for the good of others as well. What does the story that Jesus tells after giving the Our Father add to his teaching on prayer? How do you experience prayer? As conversation? Listening? Confessing? Pleading? Just being with? The celebration coincides with the first vespers of the First Sunday of Advent which calls us to be more than ever a People of Life (John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae, 79), invokes the Lord s grace for conversion of hearts, and offers the entire world an outstanding ecclesial witness of the Church s culture of life and love.
