Bishop Larry Silva in his homily to the Confirmation Candidates say that taking up Christ s cross in the world today is not easy. But Christ is asking us to follow him anyway. This takes great courage and personal holiness especially when it is not popular today to live our Catholic faith. Yet this is a great time to be a Catholic, to show people the compassion of Christ, to respond to the ridicule and insults with love. This is a time when great saints emerge among ordinary people like us! How do we witness to Christ and the Catholic Church? We are called to live the Beatitudes in its entirety! We are to become Beatitude people. Beginning Monday, June 7th, at 7:00pm, we will start our Summer Bible Class entitled A Summer of Beatitude Living. Why summer? Hopefully after class is over on August 16th, we will continue to live the Beatitudes daily as Christ taught us to do! 8 What do our priests need from us? The average parish priests is celebrant, teacher, counselor, minister and financial manager. He works more than 60 hours per week, does everything from administering Sacraments to taking out the trash, and is paid just enough to get by. Yet, nearly nine out of ten priests report being happy in their ministry and glad to be priests. Our support can help them stay strong in their faith and true to their calling: Pray for a priest every day. Let him know, and the knowledge of your prayers will strengthen him in difficult times. Express appreciation. Tell your priest when something he has done or said has made a difference to you. Drop him an encouraging note or , or leave a positive message on his voice mail. Wait for the facts. A visible position like that of a priest can attract negativity and misunderstanding. Until you have all the acts, give your priest the benefit of the doubt. Roll up your sleeves. A priest s job is easier if each one of us uses our gifts and talents in our parishes. Ask your pastor how you can help. Attend Mass. The best thing we can each do to support our priests is to attend Mass every weekend and Holy Day. Acting in Jesus name is the best part of being a priest. Growing in Faith 06/10 Feasts & Celebrations June 11th - Sacred Heart of Jesus. The image of Jesus with his heart exposed in unquenchable flame is a reminder of his intense and eternal love for us. June 11th - St. Barnabas (1st Century). The Apostles changed his name from Joseph to Barnabas, which means son of encouragement, because he sold his property and gave the much needed funds to the Jerusalem community. He accompanied St. Paul on his first evangelical journey. One Minute Meditations Growing in Faith 06/10 Love at home God has created us so we do small things with great love. I believe in that great love, that comes, or should come from our heart, should start at home: with my family, my neighbors across the street, those right next door. And this love should then reach everyone. ~Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Pray it and live it When we pray the Our Father as Jesus taught us, we say, Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. If we want God to forgive us, we have to first practice unconditional forgiveness ourselves. Only then can we ask for the forgiveness we need. Alone at last Every moment of your life is lived in God s presence whether you are aware of him or not. Take advantage of it and be alone with him or not. Take advantage of it and be alone with him as often as possible. Soon you will be able to see him everywhere you are. Practice of Faith On this solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, many parishes have a procession through the streets after Mass. We follow the vested celebrant who carries the monstrance in veiled hands. In a public way, we take the body and blood of our Lord out into the world. As we read in the Gospel, Jesus regularly fed the crowds with his teaching and healing. In today s Gospel reading, he feeds them more literally, and he expects his disciples to do the same. On many Sundays of the year, some parishioners leave Mass in another sort of procession they make communion to the sick, or they may go to serve in a soup kitchen. They may visit a prisoner, or shovel snow for an elderly neighbor. They also take the food of Christ s mercy out into the world, and each of these processions depends upon the other.
