Confirmation Parent Meeting There will be a parent meeting for those whose child is in our Confirmation program (years 1 & 2) on Thursday, November 15, At least one parent must attend. Adult Faith Formation In keeping with The Year of Faith proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI, the Faith Formation for Adults team led by Fr. Joe and Fr. Nick, will be teaching classes on the Catholic faith. The next class will be on Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 7:00pm-8:00pm. All adult parishioners of St. Jude are invited and urged to attend. Beginning the Church's liturgical year, Advent (meaning, "ad-venio in Latin or "to come to") is the season leading up to the celebration of Christmas. The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ s second coming at the end of time and also to the anniversary of the Lord s birth on Christmas. Advent devotions remind us of the meaning of the season. Special Advent devotions include the lighting of the Advent wreath; the Advent calendar which helps remind us of the season with daily thoughts and activities; Advent prayers that prepare us spiritually for the birth of Jesus Christ. 5 Catholic Charities Helping Those Affected by Hurricane Sandy Every year, our Outreach/Food Pantry ministry helps thousands of people during these tough economic times in the leeward area, many of whom are homeless. As their Thanksgiving project, our Confirmation Year 1 students will be having an Outreach Drive next weekend, November 17-18, 2012 after all the Masses. Our Outreach/Food Pantry is in most need of toiletries: toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, etc. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Confirmation Coordinator, Grace Balderas, at the parish office. Prayer to Saint Marianne Cope Lord Jesus, you who gave us your commandment of love of God and neighbor, and identified yourself in a special way with the most needy of your people, hear our prayer. Faithful to your teaching, St. Marianne Cope loved and served her neighbor, especially the most desolate outcast, giving herself generously and heroically for those afflicted by leprosy. She alleviated their physical and spiritual sufferings, thus helping them to accept their afflictions with patience. Her care and concern for others manifested the great love you have for us. Through her merits and intercession, grant us the favor which we confidently ask of you so that the people of God, following the inspiration of her life and apostolate, may practice charity towards all according to your word and example. Amen. Relief is on the way for millions of victims of the super storm, Sandy that pounded the east coast of the United States. Flooding, fallen trees, floating debris and power outages still plague the region and rapid response and help are needed. Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA), among the nation s largest disaster response organizations, announced that a major assessment of the impact and needs created by Sandy is well underway, and that immediate service is being provided in partnership with other disaster organizations and state and local governments. Donations are needed to support these critical services. Catholic Charities Hawai i is very much committed to supporting the efforts by CCUSA. And while we may be thousands of miles away, we are asking our parishes and community to give the gift of hope to those who have had their lives drastically transformed by this recent natural disaster, says Jerry Rauckhorst, president and CEO of Catholic Charities Hawai i." Regional Catholic Charities are present during and long-after a disaster strikes, which allows them to truly understand a community s needs and makes them an invaluable asset to first responders and partners. CCUSA is receiving regular reports and updates from its agencies in New York, New Jersey, and all the way down the East coast all of whom have been prepared for Sandy and stand ready in partnership with other responding agencies and local authorities to provide immediate relief and shelter to all impacted individuals and families. They will continue to do so until the lives of these individuals return to normal.
