BULLETIN DEADLINE Friday by 4:00pm Visit us online CYCLE B NOVEMBER 15, rd Sunday in Ordinary Time "But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." It may strike us as odd that there are things that the angels don't know. But it's even more surprising that Jesus--the Son of God--would have been unaware of the divine schedule for the end of the world. Given all of this, should it come as any surprise that there are things that God chooses not to reveal to us right now? In his wisdom, God knows when the timing is right to reveal his plans to us. The fact that we don't know everything helps us remember that we are not God. We are his creatures, dependent upon him for our existence, our sustenance, and for the hour of our death too. In this era of instant Internet information, advanced diagnostic medical tests, and statistical surveys predicting future trends, it's hard to accept the fact that there are some things we just can't know. But this reality should keep us humble, reminding us that we don't have to know everything because we are in the powerful hands of a loving God. Thus, any attempt to "see the future" through psychic mediums like palm reading, tarot cards, or astrology suggests a kind of distrust in God. As the catechism states, such practices "contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone" ( 2116). As much as we might want to know when the world will end, when our dreams will come true, or when our problems will cease, we are called to walk in faith, accepting what God chooses to reveal and trusting that even our moments of uncertainty are part of his benevolent plan for us. As today's psalm declares, "you will show me the path to life." What else do we really need to know? 3 Circle of Joy Thanksgiving Baskets The Wausau West Side Circle of Joy is going to assemble Thanksgiving Food Baskets for the 43rd year. The need in the community are great. We are in need of everything! Paper products, tooth paste/brushes, laundry soap, bar soap, deodorant, shampoo, etc. are especially needed as Food Share will only pay for edible items. St. Matthew s Parishioners have been most generous over all these years providing these basic necessities for the least of our brothers and sisters. Monetary donations are also needed to purchase turkeys, meat & all perishable items and may be placed in envelopes in offertory baskets marked Circle of Joy. Turkey donations are also welcome. All donations are tax deductible and may be placed in the marked boxes in all 4 corners of the church. All names (donors & recipients) are kept in strict confidence. If you or someone you know is in need, please contact the Parish Center, , and you will be referred to the Circle of Joy. Thank you for sharing the harvest. Ecumenical Thanksgiving Eve Worship November 25, 2015 Wednesday, 7:00 pm Saint Therese Parish 113 W. Kort St. Rothschild Please join us as area congregations get together for an annual Thanksgiving Eve service. A combined choir from area churches will perform during this worship. A hot luncheon will be served from 10:30 am 1 pm featuring homemade chicken dumpling soup, hot chicken and barbeque sandwiches, apple and pumpkin squares. Dan will begin a lecture series on the history of the Catholic Faith beginning this Advent. Come and see the cultural issues faced by the first disciples. See how they dealt with issues not that much different from our own. Learn how the early church developed, how the sacraments were administered, and how to defend your faith by knowing your history. Each week will look at a different century from the early church. Classes will begin Tuesday, December 1st, immediately following the 12:05 Mass. Topic: Our Catholic Faith Through the Ages. Lectures will continue on December 8th, 22nd, 29th, and into January. Meet in the new Gathering Space in the Angelorum at St. Matthew Parish. No cost to participate. Catholic Daughters The Catholic Daughters will meet Monday, November 16th at 7:00pm at St. Therese Church. There will be a memorial service and business meeting. Don t forget Your Shoebox. Mission of Mercy to a Ukraine in Crisis: On Wednesday, November 18th, hear about the dramatic situation in the war-torn country of Ukraine and the role of Chalice of Mercy in bringing both humanitarian relief and spiritual conversion. Our speaker, founder Valentyna Pavsyukova, immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 18, with almost no English skills and no religious background, except for the Our Father prayer she had memorized at her grandmother s knee as a little girl. Far from family and friends, she was homesick and hurting. But God knew how desperately Valentyna s homeland, Ukraine, needed His Love and Mercy, and He was preparing a beautiful mission for this humble young woman. Her joyful story will inspire you! 4 Children's Christmas Choir Practices for the Children's Christmas Choir have started, but it's not too late to join us! Practice on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Please meet in the multi-purpose room located off the new Angelorum gathering space. If you can't make it right at 5 PM, come as soon as you can. We will not practice on the day before Thanksgiving. We will be singing at the 4:30 Mass on Christmas Eve. Pizza is provided for the students before they head to Religious Education class. Dr. Ellen Schumann is directing the choir this year. If you have questions, please contact her at or schumann.ellen@charter.net Would you like to become involved in a new ministry created by the Family Life Committee? We are looking for volunteers to dedicate time to the Cradle Ministry here at St. Matthew Parish. This ministry will provide support to families that are expecting a new arrival into their lives. Volunteers are needed to provide prayer and encouragement to these families. What a wonderful opportunity to get involved in your Parish. May she rest in Peace HELPING HANDS NEWS Thank you to all who donated to our request for school supplies. We were able to send spiral notebooks, folders, loose leaf paper, pens & pencils, colored pencils, rulers, glue and misc. supplies to; 2 high schools and 4 primary schools, 5 basic schools received crayons, markers, scissors, glue and misc. supplies. Helping Hands Volunteers have been busy as usual. Two containers were loaded in the past 2 weeks. One 40 container was loaded with items from the Mosinee School District and was sent to Food for the Poor for them to ship to a country of their choice. The second container was sent to the Helping Hands warehouse in Jamaica to be distributed to medical clinics, schools and several parishes in the diocese of Mandeville, also items for Helping Hands to distribute when the group goes on their humanitarian trip in February. Helping Hands has some very hard working volunteers and we thank them for all the time they give to the project, and give it so willingly THANK YOU! CICLO B 15 DE NOVIEMBRE DE er Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Como cada año, en el penúltimo domingo del tiempo ordinario, escuchamos un fragmento del discurso escatológico de Jesús. Este domingo es según Marcos. El género apocalíptico nos sorprende y muchas veces nos asusta, pues inmediatamente pensamos en el fin del mundo que tantos han predicho pero fallado, ya que este fin solo Dios lo sabe: "Nadie conoce el día ni la hora. Ni los ángeles del cielo ni el Hijo; solamente el Padre" (Mc 13, 32). Lo referente a las imágenes del sol, la luna y las estrellas nos llevan al anuncio del misterio de Jesucristo, quien le da un verdadero sentido a vivir con esperanza en el presente y el futuro. Cuál es tu opinión sobre esto? Qué piensas acerca de estas lecturas? Es recomendable dialogar sobre estas lecturas en familia y grupos parroquiales para así ayudar a clarificar tantas dudas y miedos sobre la destrucción del mundo. Jesús nos indica que nada es absoluto, ni siquiera la propia vida. Lo único cierto es que todos algún día, tarde o temprano, estaremos frente a lo que sí es absoluto y verdadero: Dios. Qué esperamos los cristianos de hoy? Cómo vemos a nuestra comunidad? Cuál es nuestra esperanza? Ojalá que todos estemos de acuerdo en el retorno glorioso de Cristo. Bien sabemos que no somos perfectos, pero tratamos de serlo: es por eso que acudimos cada domingo a la Eucaristía. Las lecturas nos indican que vamos caminando hacia el final de nuestra vida.
