Anointing of the Sick: If you are entering the hospital for a scheduled surgery and wish to celebrate this sacrament prior to your hospitalization, please contact Dorothy. If you would like Fr. Bob to visit you during your hospital stay, leave word upon entry as a patient. Visits to the Homebound: Arrangements can be made with Dorothy for a personal visit; at home, nursing home, or assisted living. October 29, th Sunday in Ordinary Time "The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments." Jesus gives us a simple moral principle in today's Gospel. He speaks about two kinds of love: love of God and love of neighbor. He tells us that all the other laws and teachings of our faith fall under these two headings. So if we can master these, we will be in good spiritual shape! First of all, regarding the love of God, Jesus tells us in essence that we must love God completely and entirely, with our whole being--heart, soul, and mind. If we are holding back from a full commitment to God, then we are falling short of this vision. So we would do well to examine ourselves and find those trouble spots where we are hesitant to give God everything. Is there a relationship we hold in our heart that is somehow separating us from God, either by negative association, lingering bitterness, or a kind of idol-worship of the relationship itself? What about our souls? Are we deeply attached to any pastimes, pleasures, or pursuits that cloud our soul from clearly welcoming the presence of God? An examination of our minds is in order as well. How do we direct our thoughts? Do we strive to form our conscience and understanding in the truth, or do we passively allow public opinion or popular consensus to direct our conclusions about the Church, the world, and our own identity? It follows that the closer we come to loving God with our whole being, the better we will be at loving our neighbors. The more we are filled with God's love, the more that love radiates out to those around us, and the less we concern ourselves about what we can get out of the deal. So let us truly love God, and all the rest will follow. 2

Catechist will be taking attendance for that evening. Please make sure you check in with your catechist -they will be in the Angelorium. Religious Education Wish List Plastic pencil boxes Colored Pencils Zip-lock bags Crayons Spiral Notebooks 70 page Monetary donation Gift certificate for office supply/craft supply stores Religious Education Door Monitors are Needed More parents are needed to be Door Monitors on Wednesday nights during Religious Education classes. The door monitors are needed in the school and parish center buildings. The school building needs to have two monitors each evening, while the parish center only requires one adult. These very important roles to keep the children in our program safe. As a door monitor in the school, you are asked to open the doors before and after class keeping track of the students and traffic and monitor who is coming and going during class time. As a door monitor in the Parish Center, you are asked remain on the 1st floor and monitor the door to make sure no one other than students and Catechists go to the classrooms. Several families have signed up to be door monitors, but not enough to cover the entire year. Please look at your schedules and sign up to help keep the students in Religious Education safe and secure during the time they are here. Tim or timoudenhoven@gmail.com 3 Mark Your Calendars Holy Name & St. Matthew WYD 2019 Launch Meeting November 5th at 6:30pm in Holy Name Church WYD 2019 will be in Panama City, Panama the week of January 22-27, This launch and informational meeting will discuss costs, itineraries and requirements for participant and families. Along with a short presentation on previous WYD experiences. Are you interested, but unsure if you can go to WYD? Well, that s as easy as 1, 2, 3. 1) WYD is open to all teens who will be at 16 years old at the time of the trip. 2) Parent(s) and teen must attend an informational meeting together. 3) Agree to conditions of trip and fundraising prior to officially signing up. If you are interested in learning more about this trip, or finding out how you can help kids that are interested in taking this life changing pilgrimage, please join us for this meeting. Raffle tickets to be sold following Masses on Nov. 4th & 5th. Bus Trip to Chicago Join us on our annual fall bus trip to the Polish district in Chicago, Saturday Nov. 11 th. This is a one day trip filled with Polish culture, food and fun. Father Jerzy will be escorting the group. Transportation, Two (2) meals, (one (1) meal is an authentic Polish buffet), prizes and guaranteed fun are included in the cost. The cost is $85.00 per person with a pick-up in Schofield and Plover. 5 HOLLY HALL IS NEXT SATURDAY!!! Where did October go? Next Saturday, November 4 th, is Holly Hall from 9:00am to 3:00pm in the gym and cafeteria. A great chance to do some special shopping for those on your Christmas list, enjoy Judy s Chicken Dumpling soup for lunch, take a chance at winning a raffle item and have fun!!! Just a reminder of donations that are needed: Home baked items, candy, cookies and sweets are needed for Santa s Sweet Shoppe (can be dropped off Friday after 3 pm in the cafeteria or Saturday morning) Pies and 12 packs of soda (diet and regular) are needed for the Luncheon (can be dropped off Friday after 3pm in the cafeteria or Saturday morning) We are still accepting donations for the Children s Only Shop and for our raffle. We invite all who have lost loved ones during this past year to come and celebrate this beautiful liturgy with us. This Mass will fulfill your Sunday obligation. On November 5th, the Book of the Dead will be placed near the banners with the names of our deceased parishioners and names of family members of parishioners who also have died during the past year. We invite you to add the names of any friends or family members who have died, especially those who have died in this past year. Please drop off in the church or take to the Parish Center. Announcing the start of St. Matthew s Kids Christmas Choir! The choir is open to all kids from Grade 2 thru High School. The choir will sing for the 4:30pm Mass on Christmas Eve. Dr. Ellen Schumann and Emalyn Nikstad are leading the choir this year. Practices will be on Sunday evenings 6:00-7:15 pm at the Parish Center. Practices start on Sunday, November 5. (NO PRACTICE Thanksgiving weekend). We are also looking for musiciansespecially flute, violin and trumpet players. Musicians should be in 7 th 12 th Grade and will not need to attend all practices. We will have opportunities for vocal solo or small group singing for older students. If you are interested, you must register.
