Anointing of the Sick: If you are entering the hospital for a scheduled surgery and wish to celebrate this sacrament prior to your hospitalization, please contact Dorothy. If you would like Fr. Bob to visit you during your hospital stay, leave word upon entry as a patient. Visits to the Homebound: Arrangements can be made with Dorothy for a personal visit; at home, nursing home, or assisted living. CYCLE A SEPTEMBER 17, th Sunday in Ordinary Time "I forgave you your entire debt because you begged me to. Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant, as I had pity on you?" The parable Jesus tells today is the story of a king, but in truth it is about Jesus himself. He is the "king" who has forgiven our debts. We are the "servants" whose sins have earned us chastisement. But when we repent and ask for Christ's mercy, he grants it to us without hesitation. The point of the parable, then, is that we too should extend this mercy to others. We should not be like that "wicked servant" who begged for mercy but would not show it to others. Elsewhere, Jesus teaches us to pray, "Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors" (Mt. 6:12). We use different words, but a similar meaning when we pray the Our Father asking God to "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." But are we sure that we mean what we say? It's important to pause and evaluate how we are doing in this regard. Are we harboring any grudges? Are there people we refuse to forgive? Is there a situation where we are seeking revenge instead of extending mercy? Jesus asks us to do otherwise. He reminds us that we have already been forgiven. We are right now enjoying the benefits of his forgiveness. So we are called to bear in mind our own sins, failings, weaknesses, and "debts" when we deal with others instead of thinking that we are perfectly innocent and acting as if we've never been the beneficiary of mercy. So let us do our best to forgive as we have been forgiven. This doesn't mean approving of wrong behavior; God doesn't ask us to do that. But he does ask us to let go of bitterness and foster mercy instead. 2

It is rooted in the Bible, the sacred liturgy of the Church, and the educational principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. Dr. Maria Montessori s approach follows St. Thomas Aquinas understanding that all our knowledge has its origin in the senses. Children gather in an atrium, a room prepared especially for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials to help them absorb and respond to the most essential proclamations of the Catholic faith. I invite you to contact me if you are interested in finding out more about the program, you can also read more about the CGS at For children between the ages 3-6 years, an atrium session will be offered Tuesdays, 10am-12pm & Wednesdays 1-3pm. For children between the ages 6-12 years, an atrium session will be offered Tuesdays, 3:30-5:30pm. We will begin on Oct 4. If you cannot make the first sessions, there is no cause for concern, children can be rolled into the atrium at any point in the year. Simply let me know of your anticipated start date. Please let me know the name of your child(ren), age, and which session(s) so that I can plan accordingly. Come and help out with the biggest treasure sale in the city. Many hands make a light load. Youth, ages 12 and up are invited to serve together, then have pizza, games, and a bonfire. Watch for future Events! Dartball is coming to St. Matt s!! What is Dartball? Dartball is a game in which darts are thrown underhand at a large wooden board that resembles a baseball field. There are colored areas which denote base hits, strikes, outs, and foul balls. Dartball uses baseball like rules and scoring with 3 outs per inning and 9 innings per game. Players ages range from 12 to a lot older! Games are played on Monday nights and we rotate between our home field in the cafeteria and 13 other parishes in the Wausau/Schofield area. Our current roster consist of men and women, parish members from area parishes, friends, and gamily too. In fact, most teams have multiple generations of family members all playing together. The core of the St. Matt s team has been together for a few years, be we would love to have even more people join us. KC Council 4628 members invite parish members and families to join them in prayer The Knights of Columbus Council 4628 (St. Agnes, Mark, Therese Parishes) is celebrating through the national KC organization their World Day of Prayer for Peace, September 17th, 6:00pm at Saint Mark Parish. NEW MEMBERS WELCOME We practice the Wednesday evening before singing on Sunday. Practice is September 20, 6:30pm to 8:00pm in church, to sing Sunday, September 24 at 10:00am Mass. We practice ½ hour before Mass on Sunday. Any questions, please call Dorothy at Children s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) adult and teen leaders are needed, please consider joining the team! The leader s guides are user friendly and very little preparation is needed. This is a great way for Father & son/daughter, mother and son/daughter to team lead. You decide what dates you are available to lead the Children s Liturgy (usually, once a month to every 6 weeks commitment). Training is provided. This year celebrates her 100th Anniversary of her appearing to three shepherd children! St. Matthew Parish traveling Fatima statue has been traveling to families. If you would like the statue in your home we would be Happy to bring Mary. We will pray the Rosary together, Father will bless your home, and graces will come through Mary. You may sign up for a visit on a sheet located in the Angelorum or call Janet at the Parish Center Men s Club Meeting The St. Matthew Men s Club meeting will be Thursday, September 28th, at 7:00pm. The Wausau West Side "Circle of Joy" is now collecting UNOPENED/UNUSED samples of PERSONAL SUPPLIE: shampoo, lotion, soap, shower caps, coffee packets, etc. (Please put into a separate bag/ziploc bag). Please deposit sealed bags into "Share Sunday" baskets in church. Also needed---small packets of facial tissue, hand wipes, & lip gloss/chap stick. Items will be given to the Wausau Warming Center opening in early October. We are also collecting 2018 calendars of any size for various venues: homeless, elderly, & disabled.
