Hope your Thanksgiving was good. Now we are looking forward to the wonderful Christmas season. We must always remember what the true meaning of Christmas is, and celebrate the birth of The Baby Jesus. We are preparing for our Mid-Year Meeting in January. If you know of something that needs to be addressed at our District Convention, please let me know about it so the request for change can be voted on in April. From the s we have been receiving, the clubs have been very busy with their activities during the past months, and have many plans for December. Remember to share these activities with us, so other clubs can see what you are doing. We would like to know how many new members you have initiated since July 1, This information has been requested by PI, but we also need to know this information, so we can keep our records up to date. Please submit this information to the secretary and me as soon as possible. I appreciate your cards, s and phone calls regarding Bob s progress. He has had two toes removed and has a vacuum pump on the bottom of his foot, to help the healing process. Take care and be safe during the coming days. Happy Holidays!! Governor Della

2 Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Pilot International Being a valued member of an international organization with clubs in the United States, Bahamas, Canada, Singapore, Japan and South Africa, you may be interested to know the ways that M erry Christmas is expressed in different languages. Some of these are Mele Kalikimaka ( H awaiian ), Feliz Navidad ( Spanish ), Meri Kurisumasu ( Japanese ), Sheng Dan Kuai Le ( Chinese-Mandarin, largel spoken in Singapore ), and Geseende Kersfees ( South African ). The gift-givers are Santa Claus ( United States ), Kanakaloka ( Hawaii ) Santa-san ( J apan ), and Sinterklaas (South Africa ). Other holidays besides Christmas that may be celebrated by some of our membership during this season are Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. What a beautiful season to celebrate our caring spirit and our friendships around the world! May you and your loved ones take time to gather with family and friends, and reflect upon your many blessings. May the approaching new year bring great success and happiness to Pilots and Anchors everywhere as we continue to unite to Do more. Care More, Be More. in communities around the globe. 3 Governor Elect - Shannon Hill First I want to wish all of you and your families and loved ones a wonderful holiday season. May the new year heap many blessings on each of you! Thank you to those who have agreed to be a district appointee and serve on committees. I am looking forward to working with everyone. Also, to the clubs that I have visited over the fall, I appreciate all the warmth and friendship you have shown me and my travel buddies. Don t forget as we are getting into this busy time, that we still will need nominations for District officers for the next club year. If you are nominated, I encourage you to step out of your comfort zones and go for it. You will not regret it. Shannon Patriotism - Margot Jogwick Thank God For New Beginnings and For The Freedom That is Ours As we come to the end of the year, may we take stock of how blessed we are as Americans. Let us ask God to continue to send divine blessings upon this land in the coming year. May love of country continue to motivate us and bind us together. We need to continue to uphold the principles on which this great nation was founded, as we chart our course for the next year. Let freedom ring! Without freedom, nothing else matters. 4 The Chaplain s Corner - Sue Trautwein There s More to Christmas There s more to Christmas. There s more, much more to Christmas Than candle-light and cheer; It s the spirit of sweet friendship That brightens all the year. It s thoughtfulness and kindness, It s hope reborn again, For peace, for understanding And for goodwill to men! As we celebrate the beautiful Season of Giving, may we open our hearts to greater understanding, unselfish giving, joy and good cheer. We shall more clearly hear the music that stirs our hearts when we celebrate by giving of Friendship and Service. Oscar Hammerstein wrote in The Sound of Music: A bell is no bell till you ring it, A song is no song till you sing it, And love in your heart Wasn t put there to stay Love isn t love Till you give it away. As we become involved in our busy schedules, may the goodwill of the season not fade away, but strengthen our intention to Do More, Care More, and Be More. This new year may we as members of the KY-OH-WV District of Pilot International resolve to give our love away to those who need it and to be channels of hope and peace throughout the world. 5 Club News PILOT CLUB OF JACKSON COUNTY Our Annual Holiday Extravaganza, held on November 16, was a success again this year, thanks to all the hardworking Pilot members. We had several vendors with a wide variety of crafts and services. Pictured with Curt Harris selling his handmade wooden items are Carolyn Waybright, Cookie Gunther and Ruth Ann Hutchison. Suzette Lowe was in charge of the Pilot Information table and selling raffle tickets for the stained glass art piece (winner to be drawn at the Christmas Dinner). Jenny Scholl is pictured with Wendy Mosteller. Ms. Mosteller works with the State of West Virginia promoting children s dental health care. The club also sold pizza and baked goods. Other pilots taking part in the day were Sheila Randolph, Sandy Hoff, Sue Overmiller and Amanda Danko.

6 Club News THE PILOT CLUB OF JACKSON COUNTY The Pilot Club of Jackson County will be having their Christmas Dinner on Thursday, December 12th at 6:00 pm, at the beautiful winter wonderland at Cedar Lakes. We will be collecting donations for the area food banks, and are planning games and musical entertainment. Area clubs are invited to share the evening. The Pilot Club of Toledo Toledo Pilots are gathering for a planned potluck at Terry Utterback s home. It is a time to relax and enjoy the food and wine and fellowship. We will share unwrapped gifts which we buy for the annual Christmas party at Helping Hands of St. Louis. It is where we work all year, with help with groceries and health kits. We also work at the clothing store and donate school supplies, non-perishables, and toiletries. The Panty-Pantry Party at the November meeting was a huge success! There was an abundance of food collected for the Ripley Food Pantry, for the upcoming holidays. There was also a table full of packages of little girl panties, pillowcases and men s shirts donated to Judy McWhorter s African Dress Project. Judy, along with Marie Gravely, was on hand to accept the club s donation. Judy also shared her project experiences with the club and told a heartwarming story of how she began making dresses from men s shirts, after her husband passed away, because she wanted to use his many shirts for something good.

7 CLUB NEWS Pilot Club of Huntington On Saturday, November 30, eight Huntington Pilots rang the bells and collected money for the Salvation Army. This has been a long standing tradition for the club. We all enjoy this immensely. It is fun to see people of all ages respond and stuff the kettle.
