After church on the 18th, our Hospitality Committee and our Youth Group served pies and other goodies to everyone. We have many people waiting to be baptized, as we continue to patiently wait for warm water to run in the baptistery. Excitement for this to happen is great! 7050 S. 2 PAGE 2 Pastor s Corner Hello everyone! WOW! It s December already! I hope that you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. Now we look forward to Christmas time, my favorite time of the year. It s a time when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Now please don t get me wrong, I do not believe that Jesus was born on December 25th, the Bible doesn t tell us the month of His birth. But the fact of the matter is that He was born (Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:26-33). So why not celebrate His birth? My prayer for you is that you will truly know the reason for the season! The reason is Jesus! Do not lose that in the hustle and rush of the holiday season. It is not about lights and tinsel and presents! It s about the Creator of the universe, coming to the earth that He created, to be the Savior of all who would believe. Without His birth there would not be an Easter, and without Easter there would be no salvation through His shed blood! Thank God for His unspeakable gift! The free gift of salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ! (Romans 6:23; 1 Corinthians 15:57) Have you experienced the saving grace of Jesus? Have you invited Him into your heart, repented of your sins, accepted Him as your Lord and Savior? If not, my prayer is that you will before its eternally too late. 3 PAGE 3 Pastor s Corner Continued-- Because of JESUS We had an awesome thanksgiving here at the Dodge house with so many blessing I cannot count. The main blessing is to know Jesus as my personal savior. I am so thankful to Jesus for all that he did for me on the Cross of Calvary. My sins were taken from me and I have eternal life because of Jesus. The promises of this scripture amaze me. Revelation 21:3-5 (And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the Tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the formal things have passed away. And He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for the former things are passed away.) This says that Gods home is now among his people. He will take away all the bad stuff and take care of us forever. What a future to look forward to. If you have accepted Jesus as your savior we should be so thankful. These words are not written only to encourage us about the future, but also to remind us that we are Gods people now and He is our God. As Christmas is just around the corner I am blessed to be at South Valley Baptist Church as we can prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. It is a wonderful time of year. We have before us a time of thanksgiving and celebration. May God be glorified, lifted up and praised by his people all over the world. Pastor John Dodge

5 PAGE 5 NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS FOR WOMEN Starts December 2nd Kathy McCallie will be teaching on how to live according to Biblical realities. The lesson emphasizes how the truth about God, the Bible, Christ, the Holy Spirit, the church, and the future should shape and direct learners' lives. The course lays an important foundation for the rest of the Truth for Living scope and sequence, because it encourages learners to take a serious, purposeful approach to studying the Bible. a v e d i t h m r a a z c i e n g o u t h Last month we had a few kids help out with the budget meeting dinner. The kids enjoyed serving so much they are thinking of ways to give back to our church and community. We also teamed up with the Hospitality Team and served pies, cookies, cupcakes and coffee for our building dedication. As a Youth Group, we had a cute little potluck and it turned out great. We are considering doing some caroling in December at a nursing home or possibly two, if time allows. The kids are excited about this!! We appreciate all of the support from our church and parents. Leaders-Joel & Sheena Dean WiNGS (Women in God s Service) The holiday season will soon be upon us, as we get ready we should be in prayer for our Christian brothers and sisters who have far less than what we are so comfortable with. We hope that any of the ladies who have not been to a WiNGS meeting will feel welcome to come as it is open to any of the women of the church. Trish Morris

6 PAGE 6 A Rapturous Christmas Carolers gleefully sing jingle bells, Christmas and Hanukkah lights glitter like dancing stars, excited children run to tell Santa Claus their dreams of all the toys they want, shop masters hanging more decorations to pull the innocent into their stores, the shoppers bustle through the crowds, some running to get the newest, latest, biggest electronic gadget before it was gone, while others jostled packages around while buttoning their coats, and the oldsters sip their lattes and cappuccinos around outdoor fires while snow christened beautiful adorned Christmas tree. Since the election of their new Lord Governor, business is brighter and bolder than the sun. Dalton and Daisy walk through the maze of merriment. They smile at the young woman who is dressed like one of Santa s elves, who offers them a free holiday drink and a Christmas cookie too, but they say no. Dalton takes Daisy hand into his as they stroll by the old firehouse. Daisy squeezes Dalton s hand. They do not say a word to each other as they continue their stroll. A business man rushes from the local tavern filled with many holiday spirits pushing Daisy into Dalton, and Dalton into a blind man. The blind man laughs it off and continues on his way, so does Dalton and Daisy. The silence continued between them as they continued their journey. There need not be a word between them for they have spent fifty-three years with each other. They have been to many countries around the world sharing Jesus of the Bible, not the hang-loose Jesus as many believed. They came home for Christmas. A tear trickles down the oldster s cheek. A spot of dampness caressed Daisy s hand. She squeezes his hand, and whispers quietly into his ear. Both of them look into each other eyes, and neither a word nor phrase is spent between them. Gently, she wipes his tear. They continue forward to their destination. In the distance, the church bells are joyfully ringing. Daisy begins to hum The Old Rugged Cross. Dalton joins her. The couple starts to sing the great old song loudly. No one notices that it is not a Christmas song. No one darts around them or away from them. They pass by the corner church with the large steeple. She remembers a cross that hung on the door. It was gone. Daisy tugs at Dalton s arm to stop. She puts one finger to her lips. Dalton stops sings and listens. He furrows his brow. It was not a song that Christians sing or even a Christmas song, but secular rock and roll. The world they came from was gone. Dalton furrowed brow hangs low, and another tear comes. The Christian couple march on into the snow. The chimes rang. Dalton reaches into his coat pocket and opens an old timepiece. Daisy nods that they must hasten on. Dalton pulls the heavy wooden doors up. The church is in shadows of candlelight with a warm fragrance of vanilla christened the air. Small band oldsters greet them with Christmas hugs and Christmas kisses. It is good to be home, Dalton says as the last trumpet resounds. Daisy and Dalton meet Jesus, their Savior in the air.
