Now that the rains have stopped it s time to visit the playground for a little TLC clean up. Bill has been so kind as to put together a calendar of upcoming events. April 21 st we will have a Rotary Fun Night Potluck Cookout Cleanup Party (that s an impressive title) at the playground so mark your calendar and don t forget your tools. By tools I mean anything and everything you need to help get the job done wheel barrow, rake, shovel, clippers, gloves! PAGE 1

APRIL 5, 2010 Before you know it our 2 nd Annual Wine Tasting and Beer Sampling will be upon us and we want it to be an even bigger success than last year s event, which was very successful. So everyone is going to need to sell tickets and get the people there, June 12 th at The Edgewood Manor from 7-9pm. Thank you all, for being so gracious pitching in doing just about anything I ask of you. I know sometimes before the meeting starts you don t know what to expect (lol not naming any names Allan) so you try to avoid making eye contact with me. Its o.k. one way or another you ve all played an important part in our meetings and projects and for that I am truly grateful for your support. Thank You!! Keep up the good work and remember we need to work on adding a few good people to our club. So think about a couple of names to pass on to Bill and he ll work on a membership night for sometime at the end of April. YIRS & F, Tina District Conference may 14,15 and 16 Cape Codder We are looking forward to a great weekend at the Cape Codder Resort in Hyannis for the District 7950 District Conference. RI President John Kenny s Representative will be John Germ, the Chairman of the $100 Million Dollar Challenge Committee. John is a member of the Rotary Club of Chattanooga Tennessee. He has served Rotary as Vice President, Member of the Executive Board and on the Board of Trustees of The Rotary Foundation. John has received many awards from Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation for his outstanding leadership and service to Rotary. John and his wife Judy are also Major Donors to the Rotary Foundation. Attached is a conference registration form. If you can t attend the whole weekend, day hoppers are welcome.! PAGE 2

APRIL 5, 2010 Our Second Annual Wine Tasting and Beer Sampling Saturday evening June 12-7pm to 9pm We need everyone to pitch in to make this event a success once again this year. The letters for ad book sponsors have gone out and to date we have $770 in ad book space sold. It is most important that we all sell tickets for this event. (Ticket price will be the same as last year - $30 each or 2 for $50). \We need someone to do a layout for the ticket and get them printed and distributed to the members. We need someone to collect the ticket money (not the treasurer this time). We need posters designed, printed and put up around town. We also need to solicit items for the Silent Auction. Print advertising is being handled. Since Marie did so well with the ProJo last year maybe she should be our contact with them this year. 50 th Anniversary celebration of the Million Dollar meal On Sunday June 27 th the Rotary Club of Stoughton will host this event at White s in Westport from 10am to 1pm which will include a brunch and program for $25.00 per person. This will not only be a district wide celebration of the 50 years of the Million Dollar Meal, it will also be a fund raising event for Polio Plus and the Gates Challenge. Each club in the district has been asked to get three (or more if possible) $ sponsors. The money collected will go directly to The Rotary Foundation for Polio Plus. All sponsors checks are to be written to The Rotary Foundation and, as any donation to the Foundation, it is tax deducible. These sponsors can be individuals or businesses. Please plan on joining fellow Rotarians from around the district for fun and fellowship as we continue To Change and Save Lives.! PAGE 3

4 Fourth of July Pancake Breakfast It will be on July 4 th again this year and yes that is a Sunday!!! At the North Scituate Community House serving from 8am to 11am We need to start getting this event together. We need someone to chair it!!! Not the president again she will be the IPP by July 4 th. Then we need people to handle all the other things. Ticket, posters, donations of food, set up, serving, cooking and the take down and clean up. This is a nice community event that s not a lot of work and we are seen out in the community. Food Drive Our club is participating in the Feinstein challenge to collect food for our local food pantries. All collections will stay in Scituate and Foster. In return, we will receive a grant from the Feinstein Foundation - a minimum of $250 for participating in this program. Please remember to bring in some nonperishable food items each week. This will be an ongoing program until the end of April. Rotary Foundation Are your change boxes getting full? If you didn t bring them in tonight, next week put your change in a plastic bag and mark your name on it and bring it to the meeting. The first meeting of each month will be Loose Change Night. This will be a donation to the Rotary Foundation - and all the pennies will be donated to the North Scituate Public Library to help with their 1,000,000 penny collection.

5 GOODBYE WITH A LITTLE HELLO IN IT by Lola Smith The goodbye s of our Moldovan guests a few months ago gave meaning to Shalom. It is hopeful to think that we didn t just say hello with a goodbye in it! Indeed, a few greetings have been exchanged over the A\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ opportunity He was particularly appreciative of rural RI. He and his wife live in an apartment in downtown Chisinau where they work a four day week. After the work week is finished they drive their vintage BMW to their place in the country where they garden. As we took rides, Efim much enjoyed our RI farm stands and animals, explaining about vegetables and grapes he and his wife raise. He found the extent of RI s forest-covered land very pleasing but he was quite amazed to discover the export of Scituate water to others while we, ourselves, maintain private wells and septic systems. Thank you, Rotary, for making this international exchange opportunity possible. Norman and I are very honored and pleased to have been able to participate. Enjoying Efim s good company heightens a hope that lots of us may discover how very similar we all are, all around the world. So...hello, new friends!

7 The 4-Way Test One of the most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics in the world is the Rotary 4-Way Test. It was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 when he was asked to take charge of the Chicago-based Club Aluminum Company, which was facing bankruptcy. Taylor looked for a way to save the struggling company mired in depression-caused financial difficulties. He drew up a 24-word code of ethics for all employees to follow in their business and professional lives. The 4-Way Test became the guide for sales, production, advertising and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company was credited to this simple philosophy. Herb Taylor became President of Rotary International during The 4-Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than 100 languages and published in thousands of ways. The message should be known and followed by all Rotarians. Of the things we think say or do: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
