These images and those in the 7/19 e-times, or a stroll around the buildings when you are here, will show what has been done to give our grounds a face lift. Read more in the September Trinity Times about work being done on the buildings themselves. Thanks to all who have worked on these projects! If you feel inspired to participate in any way in these efforts, please contact Fr. Ken. Pat Shaw commissioned a new garden on the east side of the church in memory of her husband, Bob. TECC Summer Camps TECC children had a wonderful time exploring different countries during their 2-week Movement Camp. Ms. Dee (with some help from parents) brought in an array of clothing and instruments from India, Ireland, Brazil, and Kenya. The children learned the locations of these countries and what flags represent them, and created the flags/ world map, which hung in Memorial Hall. We traveled to India to learn about traditional instruments and clothing. After creating "water music" using glass bowls and wood sticks (a music style called "Jaltarang"), the children played the "Mandala, Dkol-ki Drum" and "Tabla" and learned a bhangra inspired dance. They made traditional Indian scarves and a Ghungharu, an instrument made of bells and worn around the ankles of Indian dancers. We visited Ireland to learn about musical instruments and patterns seen on the traditional costuming of step dancers. Children used a Venn diagram to determine differences between a harp and a fiddle, then made Celtic drums and Irish shoe buckles to represent the ones on the "hard shoes" worn by step dancers. In Music class, they learned about the Irish penny whistle, the harp, and uileann pipes. They also began learning to dance a "Jig and Reel. We traveled to the continent of Africa to learn about instruments and traditions found in the countries there. We learned about traditional uses of masks and instruments in ceremonies and celebrations, created our own tribal dances, and played a real Kenyan drum. We visited Brazil to learn about Samba music and the Brazilian "Carnival". Each child created a maraca and mask while learning more about this Traditional Lenten celebration. In Music, they learned how to create a conga line. Art camp began on July 23. The fun just never stops! Amazing art projects are in store for the children. Be sure your calendar is marked for the TECC ART SHOW beginning Friday, August 3 at noon, and continuing through Tuesday, August 7. It will be open for parish viewing on Sunday, August 5.

3 Page 3 Outreach at Trinity The Surprise Shop The Surprise Shop, in the former Rectory next door to the church, is a consignment and thrift store, with all proceeds contributing to Trinity s outreach programs. The Shop has wound down its spring and summer consignment season and summer sales with the 50% off sale July 23-26th and the infamous $5.00 Bag Sale July We will be closed until our fall re-opening August 13. Fall items will be accepted until October 1, when we change over to adding Winter and Christmas items. Time Flies! We were asked to donate outfits for a developmentally disabled couple for an evening at the Meyerhoff with Jack Everly & the Baltimore Symphony, May 18. Ebbie Wheeler helped Donald D. choose a wonderful spring evening outfit, while Erin Woodward assisted the beautiful Barbara W. with evening wear and accessories. The picture and letter below say it all! Dear Erin, Thank you for your gift of outfits from the Surprise Shop for Donald and Barbara that had them stepping in style for their evening at the Meyerhoff...they had a great time as a result of your generosity. Gallagher Services provides a wide range of programs that support people with disabilities who live and work in the Baltimore area. Through our dedicated staff we are able to accomplish a great deal in fulfilling our mission; however we cannot do all that without volunteers and the generous donations we receive from our many friends. Thank you for your friendship and support of Gallagher Services and for helping us to open the door to a fuller life for people with developmental disabilities. Sincerely, Jim Hillmann, Director of Development Nickels for Nurses: Response to Trinity s Participation in the Diocesan Lenten Project We...want to extend our sincere appreciation for the generous support you have provided to the Nickels for Nurses Lenten program benefitting the Haiti School Nurse project. Your gracious support will make a significant impact on bringing improved health and education to the students at La Resurrection School in Gros Morne, Haiti. The nurse, Rosene Yacinthe, has started her work and is already making an impact on student health. Your commitment will help to continue this project well into the future. A picture and a report of her work are included with this letter [at right]. We look forward to sharing with you the progress of the project as it moves forward and continuing the relationship between us that was initiated by your generous gift. Faithfully, The Rev. David G. Showers Middleham & St. Peter s Parish, Lusby, MD [Haitian] Priest Jean Lenord Quatorze reports that Nurse Rosene Yacinthe had an initial busy 2 months of March and April, serving 185 cases including injuries, pain, headache and fever They have completed the nurse s office, secured an initial inventory of supplies and medicines, and secured vaccinations for many of the students. Pere Jean expressed his deep appreciation and said that it is a blessing to have the school nurse at La Resurrection School.

4 Page 4 Christian Formation for All Ages Christian Education is a lifelong learning process at Trinity. In addition to weekday Bible study classes for adults, Sunday morning classes for people of all ages are offered at 10:00 a.m. in the parish hall and environs. Neighbor to Neighbor a New Outreach Effort; a New Adult Forum Topic According to the Baltimore County Communities for the Homeless (BCCH), the need for shelter has nearly tripled in the last decade. It costs approximately $37,000 to house a family of four in a County run shelter for a year but it only costs about $13,000 to house a family of four in a two bedroom unit for a year. Why not prevent homelessness, through a housing subsidy program that works to keep that family of four from having to enter a shelter? Neighbor to Neighbor is a partnership effort among congregations and organizations in Northern Baltimore County focused on reducing the incidence of homelessness in a defined corridor of Cockeysville and Timonium through housing subsidies and support services. Employment opportunities, high quality schools, low crime rate, transportation alternatives, and a large tract of affordable rental housing, can help lower income families pull themselves out of intergenerational poverty. Trinity s Christian Service Committee is excited about the work we can do to support the Neighbor to Neighbor projects already established. Come to the Adult Forums at Trinity on September 16, 23, and 30 to find out how the children, youth, and adults in our congregation can help prevent homelessness in our area. In anticipation of the labors of autumn, Trinity folk can bring backpacks, briefcases, androids, iphones, and other implements of their labor to church on Sunday, August 26. The 10:00 service that day will include a blessing of our symbols of work and study. The blessing serves as a reminder that God walks with us and our faith community supports us as we go about our weekday tasks. Mothers Support Group (MSG at Trinity) Mothers are invited to gather in an informal manner on the first Friday of each month simply to fellowship and discuss our lives as Christian women. This bring your own dinner event from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. has been initiated by women who understand how important it is to have time to discuss topics in light of our busy lives and our desire to grow closer to God. We ll hold our first MSG evening Friday, September 7, Join us if you can. Call Joanne Chapline at if you have questions. Bible Sunday What s That? Yes, every Sunday is Bible Sunday, but this year we will set aside Sunday September 9 to celebrate the gift of the Good Book in our lives. You can share the story of your family Bible when you bring it to church to display; or you can receive a Bible from Trinity if you don t have one. After breakfast at 10:00, adults, youth, and children can better appreciate this most important book by participating in Bible-themed educational activities and games. Rite 13 for Grades 7-10 This group is for Trinity students in grades Blending action and contemplation, the goal of our weekly meetings is to help young people grow in their faith and life. The Rite 13 group will begin preparations for an Urban Adventure during the summer of 2013 when the students use their newfound skills in small groups to find locations and accomplish tasks in a city -wide scavenger hunt. The previous group from Trinity went to New York City, but Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and even Baltimore are possibilities for our destination city in 2013.

5 Page 5 Music Programs at Trinity for Are you ready for an exciting music season? Now is the time to get involved! MUSIC OPEN HOUSE in Memorial Hall on Sunday, September 2 after the 10:00 a.m. service! Doris and I will begin Lemonade Hour with some short entertainment followed by information on music programs at Trinity. CHOIR REHEARSALS for the 11:00 choir will be on Thursdays from 7:30-9:00 p.m. AND Sundays at the usual 9:30 a.m. time. This allows you to CHOOSE the one that best fits your schedule, and eliminates the conflict with Christian Formation on Sunday mornings. The first rehearsal will be Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in the Guild Room. Be sure to eat a good dinner, but save some room for dessert. Hope to see you there! TRINITY CONCERT SERIES will make its debut. You can expect a wide variety of both choral and instrumental concerts. These programs will be free of charge and open to the public. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for specific details! Always feel free to approach me with comments, concerns, suggestions or questions! Jim Wincelowicz August, 2012 Trinity family I am so excited for the return of our 9:00 Family Service and to again be a part of great worship music! Music Team rehearsals will be Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. in the church beginning September 4. This year my goals as Music Team Leader are to SIM- PLIFY, ORGANIZE, and REJUVENATE our program. With the creation of a new "Joy and Wonder 2 book, Trinity members and friends will be able to attend rehearsal fully prepared with everything they need and less paper! We will continue to work together to select and share an uplifting blend of contemporary and traditional worship music. Although the Music Team already has a wonderful group of talented, dedicated, and fun individuals we warmly welcome ANY Trinity members and friends to attend our rehearsals. ALL ARE WELCOME to come join us at anytime whether it be for one Tuesday/Sunday or the entire season. New friends with a joy of music would only enhance our music efforts.
