November, 2012 Hurricane Sandy, the storm that swept through the Caribbean before heading north along the eastern coast of the US, caused significant damage as well as loss of life, with record flooding and power outages. Episcopal Relief & Development is in touch with partners in the Caribbean and along the US East Coast, and is ready to respond. We ask that you continue to pray for all who are impacted by the storm. In addition, we have established a dedicated Hurricane Sandy Response Fund to support the relief and recovery efforts in the Caribbean and the US. Our partners are conducting needs assessments and formulating relief activities. We will continue to cooperate as they minister to impacted communities. In the US, we are in contact with over a dozen Diocesan Disaster Coordinators about activities on diocesan and parish levels. We will work with our partners through the immediate relief and long-term recovery phases of their storm response. For more information, visit Episcopal Relief & Development's website, for updates on the aftermath of the storm, or to make a secure contribution to Episcopal Relief & Development's Hurricane Sandy Response Fund. 3 Trinity s New Pastoral Care Committee Page 3 Part of our mission statement says that we are an inclusive and caring Christ-centered community. Trinity has always been proud of the friendly welcome newcomers receive here. Many of us feel a sense of extended family among Trinity parishioners. At times of difficulty, especially health problems, the Trinity family comes to help with casseroles, cards and kind words of encouragement. This has been accomplished with no formal organization. The problem is that some people may have fallen through the cracks. We need a better way to be sure that no one is neglected. At the September Vestry meeting, the vestry voted to create a formal Pastoral Care committee, charged with encouraging and enabling the laypeople of our parish to tend to the pastoral needs of the Trinity community. With the help of the Rev. Diane Fadely (our deacon), Diane Serex-Dougan (vestry liaison), and Nancy Nicholson (junior warden), our first meeting took place on October 25, We will continue scheduling and sending out Eucharistic Visitors to bring the Sacrament to those unable to attend services. We will be sending cards to those experiencing hard times and joyful times. We ll organize dinners to be delivered to those with new babies or those having surgery. We ll help the clergy call and visit those who need some friendly visits. Consider whether this might be a calling for you. Check out our table at the All Saints Ministry Fair on November 4. All of us are called to visit the sick, celebrate with the joyful, mourn with the grieving, visit the lonely. Join us! Nancy Nicholson, Junior Warden Trinity Episcopal Children s Center (TECC) Fall Holidays at TECC Halloween TECC teachers and students had a wonderful time with their very own Halloween parade, which began in the school at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, when children in costumes walked with their families in a procession through some businesses in our block (Roly Poly and the bank), then the Surprise Shop, church office, and back to TECC. Thanksgiving The annual Thanksgiving feast is scheduled for Wednesday, November 21 a festive time for TECC children to celebrate the upcoming holiday as a school community, and with their family members. Congratulations! Tommy King, Trinity acolyte, reader and youth group member, was elected Senior Patrol Leader of Boy Scout Troop 729. He is a Star Scout on his way to becoming a n E a g l e Scout. He thanks everyone who supported his popcorn sales drive to benefit his troop. In addition, he was recently elected Treasurer of the Student Government Association of Dumbarton Middle School! Consumer Alert from the Office of People s Counsel From Joanie Smith Miller During the June 29 derecho, and last week s Hurricane Sandy, many households experienced loss of electricity and telephone landline service. Verizon has a priority telephone repair program for seniors and customers with medical problems. On January 25, 2011, the Public Service Commission approved a prioritization program for Verizon s customers. A Verizon customer who is 65 years or older or who has a medical condition requiring repair priority can be pre-certified for repair priority if the customer is without alternative access to Emergency 911 service (a cell phone or another telephone line in the household). Customers who meet these conditions and file the appropriate certifications will receive priority for repairs (24-hour out of service repair commitment) when an outage is reported. Follow this link for more information and applications for the program: request+repair+service/repair+priority/ htm. Maryland office of People s Counsel ; ; October 2012

In addition to weekday Bible study classes for adults, Sunday morning classes for people of all ages are offered at 10:00 a.m. in the parish hall and environs. All Saints Ministry Fair Christian Formation Offerings, November, 2012 Over 20 displayers, one tightly-filled room, hundreds of different visions of God leading us to recognize the saints among us, both past and present. We learn so much from each others ministries! Many took this opportunity to wander, talk to others, pick-up resources and share new ideas to take home. This event took place in Memorial Hall after all 3 services on Sunday, November 4, and gave all the chance to experience the feast of creativity and resourcefulness that is Trinity Church! The O Antiphons The O Antiphons refer to the seven antiphons that are recited or chanted during Advent. The O Antiphons have been part of our liturgical tradition since the very early Church. Each one highlights a title for the Messiah and a prophecy of Isaiah. This four-week series will explore the historic and theological importance of some of the antiphons as we discover how these ancient prayers have meaning for issues we face today. November 18 The O Antiphons: A Rich Liturgical Tradition Leader: Nancy Nicholson You will learn many amazing facts and be moved by the beautiful language and rich tradition in this introduction to The O Antiphons. November 25 The O Antiphons: O Lord and Ruler Leader: Dennis King Since this O Antiphon addresses God as law-giver on Mt. Sinai, Dennis King, Towson attorney and long-time Trinity parishioner will share his insights about the Christian longing for justice in today s world.

5 Breakfasts at Trinity Page 5 Since September 2009, on the Second Sunday of every month, Trinity parishioners and friends have enjoyed a sit -down breakfast complete with flowers, tablecloths, real dishes, and cloth napkins. This is a good way to introduce newcomers to our congregation. Have you invited a friend or neighbor to share a meal with us? On November 11, Veteran s Day could be the perfect opportunity to invite a veteran of any age or someone who knows a veteran, to eat breakfast with the inclusive and caring Christ-centered community that is Trinity church. Plan to bring your family, friends, and neighbors for a hot, tasty meal at 10:00 a.m. in Memorial Hall. Sunday School in November November 4: During the Ministry Fair, pre-k through 6 will meet as usual and learn the story of Joseph, Ruler in Egypt. November 11: There will be no education hour, so all may participate in the Veterans Day 2nd Sunday breakfast. November 18: The Sunday school lesson is Elijah is Fed. November 25: The Sunday school lesson is Elijah, Tight With God (prayer) Be An Angel for ACTC The Assistance Center of Towson Churches (ACTC) provides emergency assistance to poor and needy families in our area. The center is run by a director and a team of trained volunteers who interview each applicant to determine their specific needs. People are referred to ACTC from 48 churches in Baltimore County. You can help a needy family provide a better Christmas for their loved ones Look for the Angel Trees in the back of church or the entryway to Memorial Hall, in late November, and remove a card from the tree. Buy the item listed on the card If you prefer, purchase a $10 gift card from Target or Walmart. Bring your gift to the church office by December 12. * Planning NOW for the Christmas Pageant A child s participation in telling the story of Jesus birth can be an important part of their adult Christmas memories. It will soon be time to get ready for the annual Trinity Christmas Pageant, which takes place at 4:00 on Christmas Eve December 24. Rehearsals will be brief (for most parts) and take place during December Sunday school time from 10:00-11:00. Sign your children up for this year s pageant during Sunday school in late November. Your child s teacher will approach you with a sign-up form. Don t let your angels and shepherds miss participating in this heart-warming performance on Christmas Eve. We need your talents to lead or help with the Christmas Pageant this year. There are many ways you can contribute to this holiday production- from making props, repairing costumes or serving a pre-pageant snack to helping actors dress and giving stage directions.

Have you ever wondered what it is like to play a pipe organ? Do you find yourself gazing aimlessly at the glistening cylinders protruding from the Nave walls each Sunday while attentively listening to Fr. Ken s Sermon and wondering, How does that thing work?! If so, there isn t a better place to be! The current organ was built in 1939 by M. P. Möller and consisted of 12 ranks. It was rebuilt in 1979 and greatly enlarged. The instrument as it is known today still contains pipes from an original organ installed at Trinity for just $800 in 1887! Contact Jim Wincelowicz and make an appointment to take a tour of Trinity s historical pipe organ!
