Kenneth H. Saunders III 2011 was an incredible and busy year in the life of Trinity Church. We have faced transition head on and grown in spirit and in faith as we went from Sunday to Sunday celebrating the Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ, sharing the sacraments, and being together in this wonderful community of Christian faith. I still cannot get over the buzz of activity and excitement that I feel in this place. I can only imagine what accomplishments we will achieve in As we put up our new calendar, and tear down the old, we should pause a moment and thank God for where we have been, and ask for God s guidance as we continue to live into the discipleship of Christ that we have been called to. As the season of Christmas winds down, and the season of Epiphany approaches, there is a new light ahead of us. It is a light that entices us to follow where it leads. It is the light of Christ that shines in our hearts, burning us with a desire to be closer to Our Lord. As you probably know, Epiphany starts on January 6 th and lasts through February until Ash Wednesday (this year February 22 nd ). Epiphany celebrates the "shining forth" or the revelation of God in the person of Jesus Christ revealed to ALL people. It starts with the visit of the Magi (aka Wise Men ) who were gentiles who came to worship Jesus. The season continues to reveal to us a deeper life of faith as we walk in the light of Christ. Within the season of light and enlightenment we celebrate Jesus baptism by John in the Jordan river. On this special Feast Day we will share the light of Christ, as we baptize Annie Lacher into new membership in Christ s Body, the Church. At baptism, she will be accepted into full participation in the life of faith and fellowship. Epiphany continues as a season of growth and enlightenment as Christ reveals himself to us when we break the bread and share the cup, when we gather in His name to pray, and anytime we focus our thoughts to learn how to follow Him more closely. I always loved the song that I learned as a child, This little light of mine. The challenge to us this season of Epiphany is to let our light (the light of Christ) shine before others, so they may see and glorify God. Be Blessed! Ken+ Do all the good you can By all the means you can In all the ways you can In all the places you can At all the times you can To all the people you can As long as ever you can. John Wesley

In addition to their regular work in the shop, the volunteer staff members, under the direction of Volunteer Coordinator Erin Woodward, also provide a monthly home-cooked lunch for the men and women who participate in the Prologue Program. Prologue, using another house on Trinity s campus, offers a place where homeless people can do laundry, prepare for job interviews, take showers, and relax, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The lunches, with financial assistance from Trinity members who contribute to Dollars for Dinners ($1 or more in Erin s mail slot), are well-attended and much appreciated! The Surprise Shop Volunteers were thrilled to have such a large attendance of parishioners at the December 4th Open House. We are so appreciative of the support each and every Trinity Member gives to the Shop and to the Prologue "Dollars for Dinners" program. 3 Page 3 Christian Formation for All Ages Christian Education is a lifelong learning process at Trinity. In addition to weekday Bible study classes for adults, Sunday morning classes for people of all ages are offered at 10:00 a.m. in the parish hall and environs. After our winter break, classes resume on January 15, 2012 January Schedule for Christian Formation Sunday, January 1 New Year s Day Coffee hour after the 8:00 and 10:00 services; no Sunday school or Adult Education Sunday, January 8 9:00 Family service and baptism 10:00 2nd Sunday Breakfast with NEW omelet station 10:30 Intergenerational Sunday School class: Holy Communion Sunday, January 15 10:00 Adult Forum: Prayer Book 101, led by Fr. Hands-on materials will be used to help children go deeper into the Bible stories about The Baptism of Jesus and his early ministry. Adult teachers are needed to assist with preschool and with Grades 3-5. Contact Kathleen Capcara at if you can help lead either class. Lessons about Holy Communion 2nd Sunday of every month, after the breakfast: This program was created to help build the faith foundation of our children and youth. It is designed to assist and encourage families to pass on the faith. It is for young people age 4 through grade 8, and will be led by guest teachers. On January 8, the lesson will be Communion is a Family Meal. Witness a Rite of Passage on January 15 At the 9:00 service on Sunday, January 15, we will honor Charlie Bouloukos, Jordan Clark, Tommy King, Annie Lacher, Daniel Morthole, Mikki Rodgers, and Annie Swindell, who are celebrating their Rite 13, a brief but beautiful ceremony asking God s blessings on these young people and their parents who are entering the teen-age years together. The Rite-13 Christian formation program assists young people as they take the first steps of passage away from their families and into their lives. As the parish family of these young persons, you are invited to take part in witnessing and supporting them as they make the move from childhood to adolescence within the Christian community. During the two years of our Rite-13 program, the Trinity community acknowledges the gift of the changes occurring in these young peoples' lives and celebrates their creative power and potential. The congregation has important words of support in the service, and everyone is encouraged to come to a special coffee hour after the service to congratulate these young people.

4 Page 4 Anglican Sacramental Imagination Adult Formation at Trinity One of the hallmarks of the Anglican way of life is a sacramental vision of the world around us. This class will explore the way Anglicans have recognized God s presence in the world not only through the seven traditional sacraments, but also through the visual and literary arts. Three discussions, led on three consecutive weeks by Jessy Jordan, professor of Philosophy at Mt. St. Mary s University, will give us an opportunity to view not only the primary sacraments, but of all the universe, as a work of art made by God to communicate with us, God s most beloved creation. This view of sacraments is at the very heart of our experience as Anglicans and Episcopalians. Learn more by attending these sessions, offered on January 22 and 29, and February 5, in Memorial Hall from 10:-10:50 on Sunday mornings. Issues for Parents: an Ongoing Sunday Morning Discussion Group Many of us in modern culture have experienced the disappearance of the extended family - that network of parents and grandparents, married siblings, aunts and uncles, cousins of all ages and their spouses --whom parents relied on for centuries to answer questions, resolve doubts and dilemmas, lend a sympathetic ear, and pass on experience. Today many parents feel isolated as never before. For this reason, Trinity offers a mutually supportive parent group that meets on Sunday mornings at 10:00. Join like-minded, interesting people who share the same principles but have different temperaments, backgrounds, and points of view, to discuss family issues and share experiences. We have formed the same natural, mutually supportive network that our forebears relied on for centuries to clear up questions and stay on track. Grab some coffee, tea, and a snack at coffee hour, and join us as you can. Joanne Chapline, Assistant Principal at The Lutherville Lab School, and Cindy Adler, experienced parent of teen-agers, are our facilitators. Quiz Night: YOU Have the Answers! Save Saturday, January 21, 2012, for Trinity s 4th annual Quiz Night. John McIntyre returns as quizmaster, drawing on his experience as an editor at The Baltimore Sun for questions on a wide range of topics. Bring your friends, pool your knowledge, and you may find that you have all the answers or at least most of them. Dinner will be served as part of the event, which is from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Cost for the evening s entertainment is $20/person. Invite your neighbors, colleagues, and friends from Trinity to fill a table of ten contestants. BYO snacks and beer or wine for your table. Proceeds will go toward the expenses of our new youth group s pilgrimage. Trinity s New Organist and Choirmaster is Jim Wincelowicz Dear Friends, It is a pleasure to be called to serve as the Organist & Choirmaster at Trinity! I currently study Aviation Management at the Community College of Baltimore County and am a flight student through Brett Aviation at Martin State Airport. After my education and training, I plan to fly for an airline! I began playing piano at the age of five and took about seven years of instruction. I became interested in organ while studying piano, and at the age of 12 switched instruments. I was mentored by my church s organist and given opportunities to play at services. I have sung in honors choruses and ensembles since junior high school. My high school music director instructed me on conducting and directing choral works. She allowed me to work with one of the chorus classes and lead them in a concert. Soon I will continue my education in organ and voice through Peabody. My previous parish was St. George s Episcopal Church in Hampstead. When I was appointed as the Director of Music, there was no choir. I worked on building a choir over the summer months and by the time September rolled around, St. George s had a choir of 10 members. I resigned from my position at Saint George s because of plans to attend a school in Florida. By the time I made the decision to stay in Maryland and go to a local college, my position at Saint George s was already filled. I am very excited to begin growing Trinity s music program and ask for your support and patience in this time of transition. Peace, Jim
