2 Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 1 September 16, 2018 HERE S YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN FROM ARCHBISHOP SARTAIN HIMSELF: You are invited to a complimentary dinner event where Archbishop Sartain will be speaking about the goals of the campaign. Please call ( ), or (campaign@seattlearch.org), or visit online ( the campaign planners need to know how many they should expect. Thursday, Sept. 20 Our Lady of Fatima Seattle This dinner event will be from 6:30pm-8:30pm Why are we making changes to the priest pension plan funding model? Over the years the Archdiocese has taken many steps to improve the funded status of the priest pension plans: Increased the amount from the Annual Catholic Appeal to the plans to $1.6 million per year Increased billings to the parish contribution of the plan $600 per year since 2008 Raised the benefit eligibility age from 65 to 70 Full benefit vesting age increased from 25 to 30 years, depending on date of birth Eliminated three percent extended service benefit Despite these efforts, it was not enough to provide a sustainable path for the future. Based on independent actuarial studies, we know if we continue the pay-as-you-go approach, amounts billed to our parishes will continue to increase for the foreseeable future. A much better approach is to properly fund the plans with adequate capital so present and future generations of priests will have a secure retirement plan and the burden on our parishes will be reduced Your charitable gift to the Called to Serve as Christ campaign will help the Archdiocese to build a future which answers Christ s call to serve for future generations

We bring to the journey our own particular story, our beliefs, our understanding, our own individual history and insights. No less can be said for a journey of faith. Whether you are a returning Catholic or you are exploring the possibility of becoming a member of the Catholic church, a good starting place would be the questions you have about the Catholic faith. Learning about the Catholic faith involves more than just knowledge and information. By listening to your thoughts and feelings, you become aware of God s invitation to grow and change in new ways. This is a personal journey unique to you, as you are embraced by the church community. If you or someone you know if interested in learning about the Catholic faith, please invite them to an information meeting on September 26th at 6:30pm in the parish office, 3307 W.
