1 October 2018 Living Word Lutheran Church & Child Development Center Rooted Growing Experiencing Christ Dear family and friends of Living Word, We re coming up on half-way through the Red Letter Challenge. So, how s it going? What s God doing in you? Do you sense His presence? If you are doing the Challenge, there is almost no way you could NOT be sensing His presence! If you are not participating, why not start? We ve gone through the week of Being and now we re in the week of Forgiving. Lifechanging? You bet! One of the things I m really liking is the very practical application each day. Pastor Zach in his Challenge and Reflection page at the end of each day s reading gives us concrete things to be doing as we live for Jesus. I hope you are doing them each day. Those new discoveries will continue in the coming weeks, and the challenges may get a bit harder. I encourage you to join in with a Small Group (or start one yourself) so that you can walk through these spiritual calisthenics with your brothers and sisters in Christ, both holding you up and praying for you, as well as being there to keep you accountable. We all need our feet held to the fire sometimes. As God moves in you and stretches you and grows your faith through His Word in the RLC, won t you consider sharing that? Share at least with those in your Small Group. Then consider sharing with me, as well. You never know who will be blessed and encouraged by your story your experiences in growing (even if they were painful!). Please continue to pray daily that God will move powerfully here through His Word and the Red Letter Challenge. Pray that He grows our faith, individually, and as a congregation so that we may impact the world for Jesus! Joining Jesus on His Mission, Pastor Huesmann

Psalm 139:4 -Before you were ever born, before the very foundations of the earth, God chose you. He approved you and called you His own. You may have been overlooked by people in your life; maybe you were passed up for a job or overlooked by someone whose opinion you valued; but remember, God won t ever overlook you. In fact, He handpicked you. He chose you to be holy, or set apart, for Himself. Let that truth sink down in your heart today. You are God s most valued possession. You are special. You are the apple of His eye. He knows everything about you; He even knows the number of hairs you have on your head. He gave you the gifts and abilities you have for a purpose. You carry great value and significance. Don t ever lose sight of the fact that you are God s treasure, and you are handpicked by Him! Scenes from last year s Trunk-or-Treat Trunk-or-Treat Looking family friendly holiday fun? Come to our Trunk-or-Treat & Kiddie Carnival on Friday, October 26, 6:30pm 8:00pm. Trunk-or-Treat is a safe, fun, family environment right here in the CDC parking lot. Trunk-or-Treaters visit creatively decorated car trunks to collect treats and also enjoy snacks, games and cookie decorating. WBSD 4K students can check in and receive a special treat! 3 Bible studies Bible Studies meet in Living Word conference room unless noted otherwise. RED LETTER CHALLENGE SMALL GROUPS There are four Red Letter Challenge small groups meeting through the end of October, in addition to the Sunday Bible Study at 10:40 am. For more information on small groups, please call the Church Office at (262) MEN S BIBLE STUDY Mondays, 7:00 pm (no meeting first Monday of month) No meeting on October 1 or November 5 The focus will be "The Lord s Prayer (A Middle Eastern Cultural View)." The study is based on video presentations by theologian Kenneth Bailey a Middle Eastern scholar. The group meets in the Living Word conference room most Mondays, with the exception of Church Council meetings, when the group will use the library. The Men s Bible Study does not meet on the first Monday of the month when the Elders meet. If you have questions, contact Tom Beineke at thomas.beineke@yahoo.com. WOMEN S BIBLE STUDY FAITH, HOPE AND LUCK, OCTOBER 2 30 Tuesdays, 8:45-10:30 am Often our faith in God rests upon what we interpret as His activity--or lack of it--in our everyday lives. Sure, faith soars when our prayers are answered. When God's presence appears in an unmistakable way, our confidence in Him is boosted. But when God is seemingly silent, or when we feel He's turning a deaf ear to our heartfelt prayers, our spirits plummet and our trust in Him may suffer. The Faith, Hope and Luck study will spark individual reflection and group discussion on the nature and importance of faith in everyday life. You will learn the difference between faith and hope; you'll be presented with an accurate Biblical definition of faith and how to trust God in every situation. LIVING WORD LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL NOTES The LW Music Department will present their Fall Concert Creation on Sunday, October 14 at 6:00 pm. The Concert will feature the men's, women's, and A Cappella choirs as well as Concert Band and LW's two newest groups, Chamber Ensemble and Junior Winds. The concert will take the audience through the first chapter of Genesis, musically conveying each day of creation. This Fall saw a record number of 209 students. Thirty-eight students are in the Choice program, with seven students living in the dorm. Homecoming is the week of Oct. 1-6, kicking off with the Wolf Mudder on Oct 1. LW received a $20,000 School Safety Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Justice to supply and train students and staff in first aid and armed intruder response. The annual dinner auction will be held Nov. 3, with the theme of Fiesta!! Please consider donating an item to the auction. If any member of Living Word Church has a proposed agenda item, contact Pastor Huesmann. 55+ Ageless Wonders Autumn Boat Trip Enjoy the changing colors of autumn with a boat tour through beautiful Horicon Marsh on Saturday, October 13. Time: Arrive at 12:15 pm at the boat landing on 305 Mill Street in Horicon. Carpool: A carpool from Living Word will leave at 11:00 am or you can drive separately. Cost: $14 per person to be paid to Nancy Plier by Sunday, October 7. Payment can be put in her church mailbox. Meeting: The tour will be done around 2:00 pm followed by lunch/dinner at Ginger s Hideaway (a few blocks from the landing on 302 E. Lake Street). To learn more, call Karen Kentopp at (262) Living Grace Offers A Perfect Blend with Gretchen Huesmann W hat happens when God combines your personality and problems, mixes in your messes and mistakes, blends your bitter and sweet moments, and adds a heaping helping of the Holy Spirit? Come to the Living Grace October luncheon and learn about A Perfect Blend with Living Word s own Gretchen Huesmann on Wednesday, October 31. The luncheon will be held at the Westmoor Country Club in Brookfield (400 South Moorland Road) from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, with social time from 11:00 to 11:30 am. Living Grace is a Christian growth and fellowship opportunity for women to support each other in their spiritual walk. Concordia University Wisconsin serves as the host for these biannual luncheons in the greater Milwaukee area. Cost is $25, which includes lunch. SINGING FOR JOY TO THE LORD Each Sunday, the Living Word Praise Team leads our Worship Service with Christian songs that inspire us to reflect on God s unending grace.
