1 Oak Hill United Methodist Church Where everyone is a minister Volume 38.2 January 22, 2016 I think about a dress that my sister-in-law and I can both wear very differently keeping in mind I am about 6 inches taller than she is. For her it is a modest length dress and for me a tunic to be paired with leggings looks great both ways! What does this have to do with OHUMC? During our Stewardship Campaign We are the Body I asked each of us to discern how we are all members of Christ and the church, yet are all unique. This got me to thinking about the movie The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, where a magical pair of jeans fits each of the four girls in the movie perfectly when they each have very different body types. As members of OHUMC, we take a pledge to support the church with our treasure upon joining. There is no One Size Fits All dollar amount or percentage pledge. I wonder if another angle might be that there is A size that fits us all meaning each and every family pledges to support OHUMC in 2016 with a dollar amount that is significant to that family. If you have not yet made your pledge for 2016, please fill out a pledge card (they are on the back of every pew) or contact Angie Bragg at angie@oakhillumc.org. We are still shy of the number of families pledging by 89 and we are short by $472,461 to meet the 2016 goal budget of $1.6 million giving meaning we still have not covered the pastors salaries, program costs, now have we reached our goal to continue to pursue God s missional calling in If you have turned in your 2016 Pledge Card a deep thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you feel called to increase your pledge, please contact Angie. Here is to finding your fit for OHUMC. Grace & Peace, Colleen Halbrook Stewardship Chair One Size Fits All? 3 Welcome Jenny and Madi! If you ve been in the Children s Building this month, you ve probably noticed that there are two new smiling faces working with our children. Actually, the smiling faces are familiar; it s just their jobs that are new. Corner Jenny Holm is our new Associate Director of Children s Ministries. She will be working with Sunday School curriculum, communication with parents, and organizing our ministries, as well as assisting Pastor Suzanne with planning and implementing new programs for children. Jenny and her husband Doug have been members of Oak Hill for some years now. They are members of the Family Faith Sunday School class and attend the 11:15 a.m. worship service. Jenny has a long resume of volunteer service to the church and the community. She is a member of the Junior League and delivers Meals on Wheels. She is active in the Austin film community and has been part of a project that recently wrapped up a documentary on the Broken Spoke. She is an advocate for children in many places and is a regular volunteer at her children s school. Jenny and Doug s children, Will and Stella Jane, are active in the children s programs at Oak Hill, including Sunday School, choir, acolyting, Faith Friends, and summer programs. Our new Children s Ministries intern is Madi Bickham. She will be assisting in a hands-on way with our programs for kids, including Sunday School, Wednesday evening programs, Faith Friends, Mission Possible/Glow Kids, as well as all our summer camps and programs. Madi grew up in the church and has been a faithful member of the Oak Hill family all her life. She has been working in the church nursery for over a year and is so gifted with young children. She is a sophomore at Texas State University majoring in sociology. Madi has volunteered with our children s programs for several years and is loved by both children and parents. Both of these women have a heart for the Lord and for children. We are so happy to welcome them to the Children s staff and are excited about all the skills and enthusiasm they bring to the Children s Ministries program. to the Family of Christ at Oak Hill! Mark and Jessica Fleming joined our congregation on January 10 at the 8:45 service through an affirmation of faith. They are joined by their children Sophie and Thomas. Kelley Bautch joined at the 10:00 service on January 10 by transferring her membership from University UMC. She is joined by her husband and two kids, James and Johanna. At the 11:15 service on January 10, Jo Wester joined by transferring her membership from Asbury UMC in Odessa, Texas. Matthew and Sarah Meeneghan joined Oak Hill on January 17, 2016 at the 11:15 service. They are joined by their daughter Avery.

Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, Dave Ramsey s class presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you ve dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more! For more information contact the facilitator, Mike Sheffield, by at mike.sheffield@juno.com. To register, contact Rev. Pam Sheffield at pam@oakhillumc.org and go online to to purchase your membership! If you have financial need, scholarships are available. Let s make this happen for you! Who Needs A Will? As the New Year starts, it is time for new beginnings and getting your house in order. Every adult who owns anything and who cares about anybody needs a will. Your will relates to everything God has entrusted with you, and it can be a powerful statement of your Christian stewardship. Do you have a will? How long has it been since you have updated your will? Does it express your wishes? Does it leave a gift to the church to carry on its ministry after your death? During your lifetime you will have the joy of knowing that whatever you do not use in this life will continue helping others forever. Please take time to make or update your will for the sake of your family and your church. The Oak Hill Endowment fund invests your money and only uses the interest to support our ministries. Your donation lives forever. To make the Oak Hill Endowment one of the beneficiary of your estate list the name and address of our church along with our tax-id number
