2 Dear Couts family, Fall is here! We are so excited about football, cooler temperatures (hopefully), and a return to routine. As the summer ends and our schedule gets back to normal, I hope you find new ways to connect with your church. There are many great opportunities coming up! Wednesday nights at Couts are kicking off again on Wednesday, September 5. KidZone will be gearing up with snacks, games, and Bible stories for our children. Snack supper, a great fundraiser for our youth, begins that night as well. A new worship service will be beginning on September 5. Wednesday Night Worship will be held in the theater room just off the fellowship hall, but we hope to outgrow it soon. It is a come as you are worship service, and our hope is that you find this to be a nice place to re-center yourself in the middle of the week. We ask that you invite family and friends that may struggle to get to church on Sunday mornings. Worship will be from 6:00 pm-6:30 pm. We will have singing together, Holy Communion, and a brief homily that will send us out to various Bible studies and small groups. We are also anticipating the genesis of a new Young Adult Sunday School class for our college-age adults. During our first few gatherings, we will setting the mission, vision, and format for this class. This class is targeted for those years old. This month, we begin a new sermon series, Won t You Be My Neighbor? During these five weeks, we will explore what Jesus says about how to be a good neighbor. What does neighbor mean? How do we love our neighbors as Jesus says? How does loving our neighbor fundamentally change us? We can t wait to explore these Scriptures with you and to experience worship and Bible study with you. God is working in the midst of us here at Couts and we can t wait to join in! 4 Thanks from Mona Holderfield Many have asked what is Godly Play? We use Godly Play curriculum in our CCA chapel program, and Children s church. Godly Play approaches spiritual formation from the POV that Children have an innate sense of the presence of God. The Godly Play approach helps them to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience through wonder and play. Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum, the Godly Play method serves children through early, middle and late childhood and beyond. Thank you to the Godly Play Foundation for providing half schol- A word from Kathy McAdams I wish to thank my Couts family for allowing Mona and I to attend the Godly Play training! It was a truly spiritual experience that taught me how to guide our precious children in learning more about God and experiencing His love for them. Through Godly Play children learn the sacred stories and parables in the bible in a way that they can understand. It allows them to express themselves spiritually and make meaning of how God is present in their lives. They also learn about our Christian traditions as they grow and feel a part of our Christian community at Couts. God Bless. I recently had the opportunity to attend a Godly Play training weekend, and I would like to thank Couts for making that possible! It was an amazing and wonderful journey that is centered around the mystery and celebration of Christ who welcomes children and invites us to do likewise in order to know God and enter into God's kingdom. In short, Godly Play encourages children to draw from their life experiences and to create theological meaning. It is about discovering God through what is going on with a child at that moment and at their current stage of development. I am most excited to see the children of Couts connecting with the Holy Spirit and building a relationship with God through play! Thank you. It s designed to be a special time for Mom s to just get together and enjoy the company of others. The theme for September 7th is Painting Canvas - painting for adults & children creating art with paint. Food = desserts and coffee and tea Theme for Sept 21st is board game night - Kids will play a game. The moms play a game away from kids.
