After several weeks agonizing over the decision, Tracy and I have decided to join a church plant in League City, Texas (just outside of Houston, on the Galveston side). My role at The Springs will be as a co-pastor, with most of my work being preaching, leading worship, and developing missional strategies. We will be here through one more crazy summer with all of you, and plan to leave at the end of July. Our family really came to a point that we knew God was leading us in this direction, but had several hurdles to leap before we could say yes to Him. The first such hurdle was that we have come to think of Oak Hill as our very own family. You all have been so good to us, and we have deeply enjoyed the rich community here. Also, Austin is easily our favorite place that we have lived. Finally, we know this will be a difficult transition for our kids. We had several family pow-wows around our kitchen table where we prayed together, raised our voices to each other, cried together, and ultimately began to see God s hand in this move. It is with sincere gratitude that I think of the role each of you has played in the life of our family. We believe that God has allowed us to invest deeply in so many of you, and to be poured into as well. We don t take any of this lightly, and will carry with us profound affection for you and for our time at Oak Hill. My prayer for the youth and youth families will continue to be that you grow in depth of faith, hope and love, Tracy, Michael, Kylie, Dave, Gracie, A.J. & Logan Stewart and that the beauty of following Christ will continue to grow in all of you. I know this season at Oak Hill looks challenging with so much change, but I am infinitely confident in God s provision. Pastor Jim and Pastor Pam will be working with our SPRC to find the right person to take the reigns of this vital ministry. Please know that the youth of Oak Hill will be cared for. Please be on the lookout for information coming soon regarding a youth parent meeting in the weeks following Easter to discuss plans as we move forward. With deepest gratitude and much love, Dave & Tracy Stewart A Better Tomorrow Maya Angelou has said, I ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. Good words for my family and I these days. It is with much sadness that I share Thursday, May 15th will be my last day at Oak Hill UMC. Life has not cooperated with the long-standing desire of my husband Kyle and I to secure a job for him in Austin and make it our permanent home, despite his many wonderful connections and more pleas with God on my part than I can recall. Many of you know Kyle is a professor of history at Arizona State University in Phoenix. For the last three years, he s commuted from Austin to Phoenix so that we could live near extended family in Texas and settle down in Austin, our favorite city of all. As you can imagine, the commute has grown quite old. Kyle is tired, I miss him terribly during the week, and our two boys, Sean and Drew miss him even more. With Sean starting high school in the fall, and just four short years left with him at home, we feel it s best for us as a family to settle down and embrace a new peace in the same city where Kyle is blessed to have a tenured position. I consider it an enormous privilege to have worked here, to have learned from among the very best what it means to yield to the ups and downs of ministry, but to be bold in the execution of ideas and trust the Holy Spirit to do the rest. I extend my deepest thanks to each of you for loving me, my family, and all my wild ideas for ministry. Be sure to keep an eye out this summer for that new family in search of a church home. You never know: it could be the start of something beautiful. Most faithfully, Maria Maria, Drew, Sean and Kyle Longley

3 Five for the Fund was Fantastic! Try saying that five times fast! The fifth Sunday in March was dedicated toward Five for the Fund. We raised $6, to put toward the Endowment Fund. What is the Endowment Fund you ask? It is a permanent fund that enhances ministry and outreach. It can help care for the facilities. It encourages us to be better stewards. It helps our church avoid conflicts over money and provides a vehicle for giving. Giving toward the Endowment Fund can happen anytime you wish. We will pull out the piggy bank again on June 29, 2014 so keep an eye out and start saving Five for the Fund! Questions? Contact Karen Pickett at karenpickett@hotmail.com or Lynda Rife at lrife@rifeline. com. The amount collected March 30, 2014: Change: $ Dollar bills: $ Checks: $5,650 (this included one $5,000 donation) Total: $6, Young at Heart Dinner Group Meeting Our next Young at Heart dinner Group meeting will be May 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the Olive Garden, located at 3940 South Lamar Blvd (Brodie Oaks Shopping Center). Your hosts for the evening will be Carol Hartman and Barbara Challis. Please RSVP to Carol ASAP with a (YES will attend or NO will not attend) via caji54@att.net, or so we can get the correct number of attendees to the restaurant, so they ll be ready for such a large group. But you may bring others along as we can always make room for more. Do not forget to bring jokes and stories. Let s have a great turnout! FINDING OUR STRENGTH Are you grieving a loved one? Are you a caregiver in need of fellowship and understanding? Oak Hill UMC is pleased to announce a new small group: Finding Our Strength, a forum for sharing and encouragement under the guidance of trained facilitators from our congregation. Join us on the 2nd and 4th Thursday night of every month, 7:00-8:30 in room A204. No need to register. Come when you are able. Open to all. Bring a friend, family member or neighbor in need of support alongside you. Contact Maria Longley, Programs Director for more information at programs@oakhillumc.org. The Cross Project Is Moving Forward Anyone who has completed their crosses can turn them in at any time in the box available in the coffee bar area. How has the greatest gift the world has ever known impacted your life? We re eager to see your cross. As a reminder, the crosses are on display in the Coffee Lounge and are available for silent auction bids. On May 3, we will close the bids and award the crosses to the highest bidders. All proceeds from the sales will be used to purchase paint and other materials to help individuals and families in the Austin area. 4 Corner Summer Camps and Events Summer will be here before we know it, so don t miss out on anything! Register your children now for Vacation Bible School and MaD Camp and get on the wait list for Cub Camp, which is already full! VBS is June 16-20; MaD Camp is July (a two week camp) and Cub Camp is August 4-8. We also have information about Conference camps at Mt. Wesley this summer. Information and registration forms for all camps can be found in the church office and in the entryway of the Children s Building. Summer Sunday School Teachers Needed We are recruiting persons now to take a Sunday or two this summer to help lead Children s Sunday School classes at 10:00 a.m. and at 11:15 a.m. We try to give our school year teachers a break during the summer, but need your help to do that. The material is very user friendly and everything you need will be waiting for you. We give you the lesson plan ahead of time so you will be familiar with what is happening. This year s theme is Heroes of the Bible. If you can volunteer to teach a Sunday or two from June 8 - August 24, please contact Jennifer Barkis at jennifer@barkisbrothers.com. Zoe and Carson with the Easter bunny, and the Easter egg hunt on the playground - all those eggs were gone in seconds! Jessi loves the cute bunnies in the petting zoo! An EGGS-traordinary Egg Hunt! Many thanks to the Fellowship Team and to the Children s Ministry folks for this year s Easter egg hunt. It was a great event with about 300 people in attendance. In addition to hunting eggs, kids enjoyed a petting zoo, a bouncy house, spin art, and crafts projects. Kudos to Velma Anderson for her coordination, to the youth and Mission Possible and Glow Kids for stuffing eggs, to Jake Halbrook for being our Easter bunny, and to all of you who brought your kids out and supported this event. Holy Week 2014 We welcomed students from the University of Texas Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music: Miguel Perez, Trumpet; Nicole Correa, Trumpet; Ben Carroll, French Horn; Joey Prescott, Trombone; and Trey Medrano, Trombone.
