Worship Services Sunday, Dec. 23 8:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Pastor Jim Roberts Leap of Joy Luke 1: a.m. Pathways Pastor Laura Adam Until That Time Micah 5:1-5 Sunday, Dec. 30 8:45 a.m., 10 a.m. Pathways, and 11:15 a.m. Pastor Laura Adam Jesus on the Loose Luke 2:8-20 Four Christmas Eve Services Are Scheduled Beginning at 3 p.m. and lasting until midnight Monday, Dec. 24, the Oak Hill UMC Sanctuary will be alive with Christmas spirit during four services, including the child-oriented Bedlam in Bethlehem, a beautiful Christmas cantata with choir and orchestra, and a service with Holy Communion to end the special night. The schedule: 3 p.m. Family Worship Service ( Bedlam in Bethlehem ) followed by a Happy Birthday, Jesus! party in the Great Room of the Children s Building. 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Christmas Cantata Candelight Service, featuring the Chancel Choir and orchestra performing Christmas Canticles. The service includes a Christmas carol sing-along. (Childcare and interpretation for the deaf will be available at the 7 p.m. service only.) 11 p.m. Candlelight and Communion Service, a more intimate gathering with special music and a celebration of Holy Communion.

Children s News Wonderfully Made is a faith and sexuality program for preteens that covers physical development and spiritual connection while helping preteens establish a foundation for their life in Christ. The class will be held Jan For details or to sign up your 5th or 6th grade child, please contact Jenny Holm or Jennifer Barkis in our Children s Ministry. Class size is limited. Last Sunday, the Third Sunday in Advent ( Joy Sunday), the Oak Hill UMC preschool and kindergarten children made Joy ornaments during Sunday School. Donations will be delivered monthly to the center. Look for the collection bin in the hallway between the coffee bar area and the Youth Sunday School classroom. The Crafty Christians made these nifty snow families at their Dec. 6 get-together. A good New Year s resolution might be to join this creative group! They meet the first Thursday of each month. For details, contact Jan Roberts at janiceroberts56@ gmail.com. Look who s here! That s right, Ms. Penny Banks will make an appearance Sunday, Dec. 30, for the fifth Sunday of the month. Every fifth Sunday throughout the year we collect money (loose pocket changes and bills) for our Endowment Fund, which provides us with the ability to budget for future projects, missions, and improvements at Oak Hill UMC. The theme of December s collection is Resolve to Give, a nod to New Year s resolutions. By donating Sunday, Dec. 30, you ll help your church continue to do great things in God s world in 2019 and for generations to come!

5 Stay Tuned for Church Safety Tips The Oak Hill UMC Safety Team has been working for months to develop a comprehensive emergency response plan for our church. This set of protocols will aid us in our preparedness in the event of medical emergencies, weather emergencies, and emergencies requiring evacuation of church buildings, such as fire or active shooter situations. In hopes of keeping our church community up to date on matters concerning safety and security at Oak Hill UMC, we have compiled a list of Safety Tips that will run regularly in the bulletin and Cornerstone. (A more detailed version will soon be available on our church website.) Be on the lookout for these tips in the coming weeks! If you have any questions for the Safety Team, please contact the church office. Don t Miss the 2019 Men s Retreat! Jan , 2019 Wellspring Retreat Center in Blanco Attention, Oak Hill UMC men: The annual United Methodist Men s Retreat will be held Jan , 2019, at the beautiful Wellspring Retreat Center in Blanco. Stay tuned for more information. The Wellspring Retreat Center is a luxurious facility with a 360-degree Hill Country view. The general event format will be the same as in previous years: We gather on Friday evening for dinner; meet for one or two talks after dinner, and conclude the evening with a short worship service. Saturday morning breakfast is served around 7:30 and is followed by several talks and a brief communion service. Lunch is served before everyone departs around 1 p.m. Stay tuned for more specific information on our theme, the menu, and what to bring. There will be no break-out discussions, group hugs, or ice-breaker exercises, but you will have a chance to relax, hear some really good talks, and maybe get to chat with a few men that you haven t met before. Pampe Former Oak Hill UMC Member Dies in Goliad For those of you who haven t heard, former Oak Hill UMC member Barbara Fleeman passed away Dec. 16 in Goliad, Texas. Barbara and her husband, Norm, were members of Oak Hill UMC during their time in Austin. For the past 22 years they have been residents of Goliad. Services for Barbara were held this morning (Friday, Dec. 21) in Goliad. On Tuesday, Dec. 11, Adam and Vicki Matustik participated in an event (see photo above) at Holy Cross Lutheran Church designed to bring services to Oak Hill area homeless neighbors. Adam and Vicki were present through Oak Hill UMC s association with the Oak Hill Community Alliance, which works with other area churches and the Travis County Community Center to provide hygiene kits, blankets, tarps, clothing, and sack lunches to clients after they complete their intake with city/county officials. Those who are grieving or struggling with personal or family issues may find this to be a time of sadness, loneliness, and hopelessness. Whatever you are feeling, a Stephen Minister is available to you for prayer after every church service. They are waiting to listen, hold your hand, offer a welcome hug, and extend God s love through prayer with you.
