4 Fisherwick Summer Teams Pray for the young people and students as they continue to work with Storehouse and Vineyard Church in the city. The teams are also visiting people this week from the congregation and community to do some work projects such as gardening and cleaning. Give thanks for an amazing week with all the kids and young people. Pray that they would continue to know God s presence in their lives and for continued relationships to be built with leaders. Also pray for all the leaders involved as they recover from a high energy week! Pray they would be blessed as they have blessed so many over the 5 days. We're hoping that they will all share some of their thoughts and experiences with us in the next few weeks during services - more details will follow soon. If you, or someone else you know at Fisherwick, are part of a summer team and are not included on the list, please forward appropriate details to ashleigh@fisherwick.net to be included in following order of services. Overseas EGYPT In a bitter case of déjà vu, attacks on Coptic Christians in Egypt have increased in intensity across the country since the ousting of the Muslim Brotherhood government. Similar incidents followed the overthrow of President Mubarak. While a wide section of the Egyptian public and the leading Islamic authority, Al Azhar, were at one with the Coptic Church in supporting the ousting of President Morsi, the Copts are easy targets for radical groups, particularly in rural southern Egypt. Copts have been singled out and targeted by these groups as part of a long history of scapegoating and marginalisation. Amidst these and many more challenges Christians face in Egypt, there are also signs of vibrant spirituality and dedication. Recently, some 1400 kids joined a kids festival aired by SAT-7. It is moving to see them worship the Lord and pray for peace and change in their nation; and to see them dedicate themselves to be salt and light.
5 Pray that God will protect these Christians, strengthen their witness and give them wisdom and faith for all the challenges they face. Pray too for peace and calm in Egypt following the forceful clearance today of protest camps. Pray for the families of those who have been killed, and for those who have been injured. Pray that both sides of the political divide will seek peace and justice and start to work together to run the country for the benefit of all the people of Egypt. CONGREGATIONAL OVERSEAS TEAMS A number of teams are overseas over the next week and we encourage you to pray for them: The teams are working in various projects in Malawi, Romania and Ukraine Prayer Points for these teams: Good health, safety, strength and energy for all the team members and those they are working with. That the work that each of the teams are in involved in will go well. For the Word of God to be explained clearly and for spiritual fruit in the lives of those the teams are seeking to help, as well as those they are working alongside. CHURCH NOTICES. *** Sunday School facilities *** There will be leaders covering a Summer Sunday School for the remainder of August (starting on Sunday 11th August) for all primary school aged children. 7 (Update from Alex Cameron in Jamaica) Hello all you beautiful people, This is my final from Jamaica, while there is still loads of stuff I wish to tell you about I hope I can do this in person. Instead this is just a brief to end my trip. Me, Melvin, Deron and Daquan have also just shared Domino's pizza for our final night - who knew that 2 for Tuesday had reached Jamaica! I have never seen three boys more excited than when they got the news that I was buying them pizza for our last meal together; I think I might have broken a rib from how hard Melvin flung himself at me! They are three beautiful boys who have such potential ahead of them but its the simple things in life they hold them back. I met Daquan last week when me and Anna picked him and his mum up to take them to a doctor who attends our church. A couple of months ago Daquan broke his arm playing football and it hasn't healed properly; not only does the bone need to be reset but he has a bone infection as well, if action isn't taken soon he will lose his right hand - its a huge thing to face at the age of 16. And a huge reality of Jamaica struck me as we waited in the doctors waiting room... there's no NHS!!! He can get treated, but only if he pays. He was given a letter of referral to the hospital and a prescription for anti-biotics. The Kingston Public Hospital is a totally manic place as it is the only public hospital in the area - there are queues everywhere and a severe lack of resources, it is partly government funded but patients still have to pay for the care they receive. Daquan went to the hospital and was told he needed an X-ray... but the x-ray machine doesn't work. Instead he has had to go and find an X-ray machine before any further treatment is given. He went to get the antibiotics but couldn't get the full course because his mum didn't have enough money. She used the $500 we had given her and another $500 that she had (it was the money that the family of 8 were supposed to use for food that week), it bought Daquan about half of the antibiotics he needed. This woman faces the situation of her son losing his hand because she can't afford to pay for the treatment. I have never been more thankful for the NHS! Thankfully today he managed to get the X-ray done and we found someone willing to sponsor him for his treatment - Praise the Lord! Then my first aid kit came in useful (provided by my mother!) as I bandaged his arm so that the damage is hidden from view - even this small effort helped improve his confidence. Today I was given a surprise farewell lunch at the school and I was so touched to hear that they had been so encouraged by my visit! I don't feel like I've helped that much but I know that God has used my willingness. Perhaps one day I will fully understand but I know that the people I've met here will always have a dear place in my heart.
8 Tomorrow I leave on the 18:45 flight to London Gatwick and will arrive home on Thursday morning. I can't wait to see you all again!! Still continuing to live by faith... Cameron Alex WORSHIP CENTRAL 13th September - Worship Central are coming back to Belfast on Friday 13th September returning to Carnmoney Church for an evening of Worship to encounter God, empower the worshipper and equip the church.
