1 { with St Peter's Hebden Prayer & Notice Sheet 14 th January 2018 Great to have you with us today, everyone is welcome to receive bread and wine at communion. Today s Readings 1 Samuel (11-20) John 1.43-end Special Prayers Heavenly Father, at the Jordan you revealed Jesus as your Son: may we recognize him as our Lord and know ourselves to be your beloved children; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen Prayer for St Michael's, Linton Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you for our community and family of faith here at St Michael s. As our Friend, Saviour and Lord, support us in our daily lives. Guide and encourage us; deepen our faith and nurture our relationships with one another. Continue to shape us into a loving, welcoming people; may we reach out so that others may come to know you. Help us individually, and collectively, to use the gifts that you have given us, to serve you, and to further your purposes in the world. In your name we pray. Amen Tensions in Sudan One student has been killed and six people injured during protests over rising bread prices in Sudan. The student died during a demonstration on Sunday in Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, Diocese of El Obeid. Separate protests also took place in Damazin and Sennar (Diocese of Wad Medani), and in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. Bread prices have almost doubled in Sudan since the government's decision last month to cut subsidies and stop importing wheat from overseas. Officials hoped the move would create competition, and therefore act as a check on price rises - but the Sudan Tribune says a number of bakeries have since stopped production, citing a lack of flour. The decision was part of a raft of austerity measures in the country's 2018 budget, which seeks to address the high inflation rate, currently recorded at about 25 percent. In an attempt to crack down on the ongoing unrest, Sudanese security forces have arrested three opposition leaders and blocked the sale of six newspapers. According to Amnesty International, some 185 people were killed in 2013 during demonstrations against a rise in fuel prices. Lord, we pray for those caught up in the dreadful unrest and violence. We pray for calm and safety. We pray the government find a way through the financial crisis and the bread shortage comes to an end. Amen Our Mission Partner for January Ben & Katy Ray at CMS in Tanzania. Please pray for our CMS Mission Partners, Ben & Katy Ray, who have just returned from Neema Crafts in Tanzania to UK for a 4 month break. We pray that Zachary & Alessia will quickly adjust to the very different lifestyle & climate, and that Ben & Katy may find time for restoration and reflection amidst their hectic schedule of church visits. Amen Notices Coffee Morning Saturday 20 th January Church House - Raising funds for Chitepani Trust
