THE CHURCH VOICE William C. George, Pastor Craig B. Teer, Director of Music Web : Newsletter September-October 2018 PASTOR'S REFLECTIONS It is hard to believe we will soon be starting into the month of September. Students will be heading back to school. Daylight hours are shorter. So as we look ahead, the challenge is plan and dream how KBC can continue its journey of mission and ministry to the world around us. To be effective in this effort we need to PRAY WITHOUT CEASING. We need to make prayer a priority. So be open to the opportunities to gather and pray and to discuss God's guiding presence within your life and that of KBC. In the coming weeks and months be open to the opportunities that will help to strengthen the prayer fabric that enables us to let our light shine in service and ministry. WHEN WE PRAY, GOD HEARS MORE THAN WE ASK, GIVES MORE THAN WE CAN IMAGINE IN HIS OWN TIME AND HIS OWN WAY. (GodVine.com) WHEN WE PRAY And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. Ephesians 6:18 GOD HEARS MORE THAN WE SAY, Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6:8 GIVES MORE THAN WE CAN IMAGINE... Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Ephesians 1:3-4 IN HIS OWN TIME... But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 2 Peter 3:8-9
ANSWERS MORE THAN WE ASK, AND HIS OWN WAY But when you pray, go into your room, He is the Rock, his works are perfect, close the door and pray to your Father, and all his ways are just. Who is unseen. Then your Father, who Deuteronomy 32:4 sees what is done in secret, will reward you. The LORD is righteous in all his ways and Matthew 6:6-7 loving toward all he has made. Psalm 145:17 Let us not forget that PRAYER and GROWING IN OUR PRAYER LIFE are a priority at KBC. Through prayer: We can give God our praise. We can discern better God's will for us as individuals and as a church. We can hear from God. We can communicate with our Creator. We are able to receive and act on what God has to say. We have an increased capacity to be in God's presence. Without prayer; we are spiritual paupers and rather blind in being able to follow God's leading! So please take time to pray! Please pray that we would truly seek to be all Christ would have us to be! As we continue the journey, Pastor Bill A THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH Just as our faith strengthens our prayer life, so do our prayers deepen our faith. Let us pray often, starting today, for a deeper, more powerful faith. Shirley Dobson

WORSHIP AND PRAISE: THE JOURNEY INWARD: GROWTH & RENEWAL (IN ORDER TO GO OUT INTO THE WORLD) Don't forget the summer schedule continues through the first weekend in September. We will return to the Sanctuary for our regular worship experience on September 9 th and will celebrate communion. Each Sunday we gather to give God the praise and the glory. Join us in worship, as we gather together, before God almighty. Come and experience anew God's wondrous love and discerning spirit at 11:00 am. Each service is a gift to a loving Creator. We come just as we are and God uses our worship to change lives and bestow His grace as we seek to show our love through our time together. Come and bring a friend or neighbor. Help them to experience the gift of worship! AFTER WORSHIP FELLOWSHIPS (9/30 & 10/28): Our next After Worship Fellowship will follow the Morning Worship Service on September 30 th and October 28 th. Plan to stay and visit over goodies shared by the KBC family. Each family unit is asked to bring either a snack food, finger food, or fruit. Beverage is provided by the church. Volunteer hosts/hostesses will set-up for the fellowship. See you there! A Quarterly Business meeting will follow the September fellowship. There is a sign-up sheet in the vestibule if you would like to volunteer to serve as one of the host(s) or hostess(es). Your service is a blessing. IMPORTANT: THE RELATIONSHIP BUILDING TEAM AND CHURCH COUNCIL ASK THAT YOU BRING FOODS THAT ARE READY TO BE SERVED FOR THE FELLOWSHIP. Please don't bring food that needs to be heated or takes a lot of preparation for the hosts and hostesses. They enjoy being a part of worship.

THE JOURNEY OUTWARD: SEEING & DOING MISSIONS AND YOU: MEETING NEEDS IN CHRIST'S NAME OUR HOMEBOUNDS: Continue to remember all those in our church family who are homebound or assisting family members who are homebound. In September, you are asked to especially remember Lillian Jones, Pinion Court, N Potomac, MD Send a card or note to encourage her during September. In October, you are asked to especially remember Mildred Hopwood, 3109 Jennings Road, Kensington, MD Send a card or note to her during October. MISSIONS/OUTREACH NEWS 1) WOMEN'S SHELTER BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION: KBC is hosting the October 6 th Birthday Celebration at the Taft Women's Shelter for 70 women. The sign-up sheet is out in the vestibule. If you have not signed up yet, please do so. Or, if you can't shop but would like to make a monetary contribution, please see Pastor Bill. We are still looking for people willing to sign-up for ice cream, fruit punch, fresh fruit, and mylar birthday balloons. For those who have signed up, thank you! 2) THANK YOU!: This year the KBC family gathered a car trunk full of school supply items that were given to Interfaith Works to distribute to those children in our county who cannot afford school supplies necessary to start the school year. Thank you for your faithfulness. 3) LAUNDRY DETERGENT NEEDED: Your help is needed! The Taft Court Women's Shelter off Gude Drive needs laundry detergent. Liquid or powder is acceptable. This detergent is needed so that residents will be able to have clean clothes. Won't you help us to minister to the less fortunate and to those who are down and out? We will be collecting through mid-october. DEADLINE: OCTOBER 14 th 4) This year's BCM/D State Missions Offering theme is United in Prayer: Seeking Christ's Spirit and centers on Acts 1:14. This offering is designed to support BCM/D ministries that reach people in unique ways. The goal is always to see a need and meet it. Our goal as a church for this special offering over and above our regular giving is $650. What would God have you give to help share the love of Christ to hurting people in Maryland and Delaware?
5) BETHESDAY HELP FOOD PANTRY: We are always seeking to collect food for the Food Pantry. Requests continue to increase so there is a special need for peanut butter, jelly, tuna, canned meats and individual pockets of dried food. PLEASE NO JARS THAT ARE BREAKABLE! Put items in the box under table in vestibule marked FOOD PANTRY. DEACON MINISTRY CALL ON US: Please feel free to call on you deacon if you have a need. We are willing to lend a listening ear and helping hand. Please know we are praying for you. Deacon Family Ministry lists are found on table in vestibule. Deacons presently serving include: Julie Barringer, Adissa Barry, Barbara Bryant, Barbara DeNoyer, Brett Jones and Rosalind Walker. IN HOME COMMUNION: If you are homebound and interested in receiving communion at home, please talk with Brett Jones ( ). The Deacons are glad to make a visit and serve communion. GENERAL INFORMATION 1) LOOK FOR YOUR NEW DIRECTORY! New directories are being worked on and will be available in a few weeks in the sanctuary vestibule. If you know of a needed change from the current directory, please let the church office ( ) know. Thanks! 2) MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGH YOUR GIVING: Nothing much is conveyed through grudge or giving out of obligation only. The Bible teaches us that God wants our hearts and our love. He wants us to give with joy and thanks giving. Duty giving is admirable, but there is little joy or enthusiasm. 3) HOW ARE YOU CALLED TO SERVE? God has gifted you with spiritual gifts to be used in His service through the church. Volunteers are always needed to be a part of our five ministry teams: Worship, Discipleship, Relationship Building, Mission/Outreach, and Resourcing. Which team is God calling you to serve on?
