1 May 16, 2011 Volume XII, Issue 5 The Challenge DENNIS LANKFORD TO BE DBC S Executive Pastor: Administration & Discipleship On Sunday evening, May 15, our church voted to call Dennis Lankford to be our Executive Pastor: Administration & Discipleship. Dennis will begin his ministry here at DBC in mid June. Let us faithfully lift up Dennis and his family in our prayers, and be ready to give them our support, encouragement and love as they come to serve the Lord at DBC.

2 The Challenge Page 2 of 6 From the Pastor There is an interesting phrase found in Luke 4:16. In reference to Jesus, Luke writes, And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day. Jesus regularly attended a place of worship on the Sabbath. Now if Jesus, the perfect Son of God, considered it important for Him to gather with God s people in a sanctuary for corporate worship every seventh day, how much more so, should His followers do the same on the Lord s Day, when we celebrate weekly His resurrection. I am amazed at the sporadic irregular worship attendance of so many professing Christians. Here at DBC, our worship attendance has increased recently, but it still grieves me that when we check on the attendance of our members, so many only manage to make it to Sunday worship once or twice a month. And I m referring to so called active members. We also have inactive members who rarely come. What happens so often on Sunday that could possibly be more important than gathering for the worship of the Living God? Luke tells us that it was the custom of Jesus to worship in a synagogue on the Sabbath. Did Jesus have a lot to do during His brief stay here on earth? He was sent from Heaven to fulfill an incredible mission, yet He apparently made corporate worship a priority in the management of His time. Hebrews 10:25 indicates that we should not forsake the assembling of ourselves together. Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well that the Father is seeking those who will worship Him in spirit and truth. This involves personal worship times, but also includes corporate worship. The Psalms were Old Testament praise songs to be used in public corporate worship. What kind of example do parents set for their children when they allow temporal earthly matters to become more important than faithful worship with God s people on Sunday? What kind of example do church leaders set when even their attendance at worship services is sporadic? What kind of witness do Christians have before the world when many allow worldly activities to consistently take priority over corporate worship on the Lord s Day? As we enter into the summer months, faithful worship on Sunday apparently becomes even a bigger challenge for a lot of people. The Bible often refers to God being faithful to us. We sing Great Is Thy Faithfulness. One of the ways we can express our gratitude for His faithfulness to us, is to be like Jesus, and faithfully go to a corporate worship service at least once a week.

3 Page 3 of 6 The Challenge SHOW THE LOVE OF CHRIST Join us on Saturday, May 21 st for Action and Truth Day, where groups from all over DBC will be serving others with Christ's love. We would encourage your small group or S.S. class to look for an opportunity to serve in the community around you! There is no set time frame that this must be done in, but we would expect it to be throughout the day from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. or so and would recommend you plan to spend 2-3 hours total. If you would like to participate but don't have a group or have questions contact Derek Stone at dstonedo@yahoo.com. MISSING Women s Ministry is missing a DVD for session 5/6 of Daniel by Beth Moore. If you have information concerning it please call the church office (614) HAS YOUR INFORMATION CHANGED? Please note that we only include regular attenders in the directory if they specifically asked to be included. FAMILY CANOEING Join other Parents/Grandparents and their children for a canoeing adventure close to home. Travel down the scenic Darby Creek in Plain City on Saturday, June 4 TH. Check out the Family Ministry Team's table outside the library for sign-up information. Contact Rick or Jennifer Shugert with questions at Space is limited -- $10.00 per family which includes lunch. Don't want to canoe? Come anyway to enjoy the food, fellowship, and games. Deadline to sign-up is May 22 nd.

YOUNG MUSICIANS MUSICAL AND MEMORY VERSE RECOGNITION On Sunday evening, May 22 nd, at 6 p.m., the Young Musicians Choir will present the musical Power. Don t miss this entertaining musical, with a strong gospel message and creative musical arrangements. Based on a TV show theme, this musical teaches about the power of God s promises. Invite your friends and neighbors to this great outreach! The musical will be followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall, recognizing students who will be receiving awards for memory verses for school year. SHORT TERM SINGING OPPORTUNITY...PARTICIPATE IN THE PATRIOTIC MUSICAL We are looking for 60 people to commit to the Patriotic musical! This musical is perfect for those who have always wanted to sing, but didn t have the time to commit to Adult Choir! Anyone that is grade 7 and up can join. Starting Wednesday, June 1, we will meet for 4 weeks, from 6:30-7:45 p.m. and then present the musical on July 3. Music needs to be ordered, so we need to have at least 60 committed for this project to happen. MIGHTY ARROWS HOME EDUCATORS Dublin Baptist Home School Group is now Mighty Arrows Home Educators! LAST MINUTE SUBS Periodically we have last minute needs for childcare assistance in the Preschool and Children s areas on Sunday mornings. This happens when our scheduled caregivers take ill or suddenly need to go out of town. If you would be willing to help with childcare on a last minute basis please let Kathy Kindell know. You may reach her in the church office at (614) or by at kkindell@dublinbaptist.com. VBS NEWS SUMMER IS ALMOST HERE!...VBS planning is in full swing. We have a need for teachers and helpers! VBS is the week of July We have several strong teachers who need partners for the week. OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY...We need someone with a heart for outreach who will coordinate follow up for the unchurched families who bring kids to VBS. Info is available at the VBS table or by talking to Kimberly Farley or Kari Parks.
