2 Message of the Week John 14:2329 Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. Can we hear Jesus saying these words to us? It s often easier for us to imagine the apostles hearing this consoling command and following it, than to think of it really applying to us. After all, Jesus was standing right there with them. Can he really expect us, two thousand years later, not to be troubled by the cares of life? But the fact is that the gift Jesus was giving to his disciples, he has also given to us: The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name. Jesus told them that peace would be theirs, and it can also be ours. Peace is, in fact, one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit, along with love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self control, and chastity. These fruits don t come from us. These fruits come from God straight into our souls through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Through our baptism and conirmation, Jesus gives us the gift of his Spirit. And then his peace, and so many other gifts can truly become ours if we open our hearts to them. From Jan UNITY AND PEACE One of the New Testament expressions for the Eucharist is the breaking of the bread. Among the fruits of sharing in this breaking are unity and peace. Then as now, the disciples of Jesus struggle with differences and disputes. Currently, there are polarizing issues in our Church, and some of the actions of Pope Francis have caused consternation and distress among some Church leaders, while bringing others delight and comfort. At times we even ind a meanspiritedness masquerading under the guise of orthodoxy. In the wake of Vatican II, more than 50 years later, divisions continue. In local faith communities, pettiness, rivalries and misunderstandings are obstacles to love and unity. Perhaps during the Easter Season we need to recall the basics of Christianity and remember Jesus command to love one another. 2 FAITH Formation R.C.I.A. On Monday, April 25th, Marilyn Cummings Washington, Bradley John Hess, Ronald Wesley Lancaster, Deborah Kay Ligget, and Brett Aaron Wilson completed their studies in the R.C.I.A program. A delicious potluck supper was served and they shared their thoughts about the year and its meaning for them. Following a supper there was a prayer service where they received their mission crosses. They are now ready to share their talents and continue to learn more about their faith. Please welcome them into our community. 5 ORCA Exchange Student Opportunity St. Vincent de Paul is in great need of volunteers to help take unsellable items apart in our workshop and mine them for the different metals. Last year alone we recycled 60,835 pounds of scrap metal, keeping it out of the landfills. If you are somewhat mechanical and like tearing things apart and have a couple of hours to spare in a week, we would appreciate your help. For more information on that position or any others please call Vicki at ext. 313 and I can explain in further detail what we need. I have group of ORCA Exchange Students coming from France June 17 - July 8th, I have 5 boys and 2 girls left ages They all speak some English, there is a chaperon that is fluent that comes with them, she stays with me. So you do not need to speak French to be a host family. They come with their own spending money and medical insurance. Their main reason for coming is to experience the American teenage way of life, and practice their English. If you would like to host a student or know of someone who would, they can live within 150 miles of Billings, or if you would like more information.
