This is very dificult for people that don t live a stewardship lifestyle to believe. People are skeptical and say it s just coincidence. If you are skeptical, try living a stewardship lifestyle for just one month be generous with your gifts of time, talent and treasure and see how God provides for your needs. 3 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time "He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come." Why? What made the king's invitation so distasteful to these guests? According to the parable, either the guests were too busy with their farms and their businesses, or else they were downright hostile to the entire idea: they "laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them." What could possibly explain this resistance? Perhaps we have a clue in the puzzling conclusion of today's Gospel. One of the secondstring guests pulled in from the streets came to the feast "not dressed in a wedding garment." The man knew he was guilty, hence his silence. And the king's punishment suggests that the fellow ought to have known better. This "wedding garment" calls to mind the preparation of our souls necessary to join in the great "wedding feast of the Lamb" (Rv 19:9), that is, heaven. This man was apparently just too lazy to get ready. He presumed that having received an invitation to the banquet was enough, that nothing was required of him. Not so. He should have demonstrated his gratitude by dressing appropriately. And what of the irststring guests? Some were too busy to bother coming; others were furious that they had been invited at all. Now, where do we it in? Are we more concerned with worldly work than with spiritual growth? Are we offended by the very suggestion that we might need to "dress up" our souls? Or are we the disinterested Christian, willing to feast but too lazy to foster his faith? Jesus gave his life to open the gates of heaven for us. Let's show our gratitude by preparing radiant, beautiful souls worthy of the heavenly wedding feast. If you are interested, contact me by or phone before October 21 st. CPR is a valuable skill for everyone to learn, although in most cases not used very often. 4 From Jan WHAT SHALL I WEAR? What a tremendous sharing in God s abundant love we ind in today s readings! The image of a banquet overlowing with rich food and drink to which all are invited is an awesome metaphor for the celebration of the Liturgy. And yet, in the same Word we hear the dire warning against the one who shows up at the banquet not properly dressed and is cast into the darkness. For Christians there is only one proper wedding garment, our baptismal garment. This attire is necessary if we are going to respond to the Lord s invitation and to have a place at the banquet. If our baptismal garments are colored with compassion, hemmed with humbleness, stitched with sincere love, and trimmed with tolerance, our lives will relect God s love and we will be graceilled. Only then can we experience the transforming power of the Eucharistic feast. Our challenge is to come to the feast dressed not only as Catholics, but as Christian Catholics. We are called to continually examine our attire for stains of arrogance and anger, for prejudice, perfectionism, pride and pettiness. How we respond to the Lord s invitation measures the quality of our faith commitment. 5 Community The Knights are sponsoring their annual Coat Drive for St. Vincent de Paul. That will begin the 1st of October and run for 3 weeks until October 22nd. Please bring your gently used or new coats for the poor to warm them this winter. Simply leave them in our donation bins at the gathering area or at the ofice area. The success of our future depends on the wellbeing of our children, but in Montana they are among the most vulnerable in our communities. Statewide, the number of children entering foster care due to abuse or neglect in recent years has skyrocketed.in Yellowstone County, thenumberof children removed from their homehas increaseddrastically from182 in 2014 to an astonishing 531 in 2016, resulting in approximately 1,000 children currently in foster care. Despite theenormity of these statistics, our children are more than numbers, and each one deserves a voice. You could be that voice by becoming a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate, with CASA of Yellowstone County. Our next New Advocate training begins in January. BRING THE HEAT AND SOME SWEET TREATS! Sacramental requirements for Conirmation and First Communion at St. Patrick CoCathedral Two year requirement for Conirmation and First Communion. We did change to a two year sacrament class attendance for sacraments for those children entering into irst grade for this year. This fall we will begin the two year requirement program for the reception of irst Communion and Conirmation. The reasons for this are multifold, but certainly it is primarily that they have the opportunity to prepare with their peers, whether from the Catholic schools, our home schools and our parishes, the opportunity to get to know each other, to learn about the Sacraments of Initiation in a common classroom.
