The season was full with Light Up for Christ, the Christmas Party, the Church Christmas Social etc. Thanks to all who helped set up for the Light up for Christ, especially Kervin and Ann Voisin who provided the songs. I was especially blessed to be singing next to the angelic voice of Tama Forsyth. We also enjoyed the quartet of Barry Forsyth, Dean Eschete, Kervin Voisin and Vince Naquin who once started had no off switch. For those of you we have rarely seen in 2011, consider making a New Year s Resolution to re-think the Knights of Columbus in Our Council is only as good as our participation. Later, she called herself Mara, or "bitter" (Ruth 1:20-21), she said to the women on Bethlehem, "Do not call me Naomi call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me," referring to the death of her husband (Elimelech) and her two sons (Mahlon and Chilion Ruth and Naomi in the fields of Boaz. Naomi had with her a faithful daughter-in-law named Ruth who decided to follow her, while Orpah,her other daughter-in-law, chose to go back to Moab. Ruth marries Boaz and they have a son, whom Naomi cares for, and so the women of the town say "Naomi has a son" (Ruth 4:17). In this way, the book can be seen to be Naomi's story: Gregory Goswell argues that Naomi is the central character of the book. The son in question was Obed who later became the grandfather of David. Barry Webb argues that in Ruth 1, Naomi's "perception of her condition" is "distorted by self-absorption," but that Ruth plays "a key role in her rehabilitation." Webb also points out Naomi's "feminine scheming" in forcing Boaz's hand. Abraham Kuyper, on the other hand, asserts that "Naomi has such innate nobility of character that she immediately elicits from us our most sincere sympathy." Knights of Columbus Essay Contest The Council will feature an essay contest this year for students in the 8 th Grade thru the 12 th grade.
