4 A Message from the Pastor As we enter the Holy Week we need to answer 5 questions : 1) Does Jesus weep over my sinful soul as He wept over Jerusalem at the beginning of His Palm Sunday procession? 2) Am I a barren fig tree? God expects me to produce fruits of holiness, purity, justice, humility, obedience, charity, and forgiveness. Am I a barren fig tree? Or do I continue to produce bitter fruits of impurity, injustice, pride, hatred, jealousy and selfishness? 3) Will Jesus have to cleanse my heart with His whip? Jesus cannot tolerate the desecration of the temple of his Holy Spirit in me by my addiction to uncharitable, unjust and impure thoughts words and deeds; neither does He approve of my business mentality or calculation of loss and gain in my relationship with God, my heavenly Father. 4) Do I welcome Jesus into my heart? Am I ready to surrender my life to Him during this Holy Week and welcome Him into all areas of my life as my Lord and Savior? Let the palms remind us that Christ is our King and the true answer to our quest for happiness and meaning in life. 5) Are we like the humble donkey that carried Jesus, carrying Jesus universal love, unconditional forgiveness and sacrificial service to our families, places of work and communities by the way we live our lives? Holy Thursday: On Holy Thursday, we celebrate three anniversaries: 1) the anniversary of the first Holy Mass, 2) the anniversary of the institution of ministerial priesthood in order to perpetuate the Holy Mass, convey God s forgiveness to repentant sinners and preach the Good News of Salvation, 3) the anniversary of the promulgation of Jesus new commandment of love: Love one another as I have loved you. Good Friday: Jesus' announcement, "It is finished" is clear and simple. Jesus had completed His task. The purpose for which He had come to earth as a human had been fulfilled. He came so that you and I can have forgiveness and salvation. He came to give us the victory. He came to ensure that we would enter his kingdom and live forever. Let us pray: Loving God, what You have done for us in Jesus death on the cross is far more than we deserve. His death has made us friends with You again. His death has given us forgiveness and the hope of life forever. Everything is complete. Please, Lord, enable us to welcome our crosses, as Jesus did, for the atonement of our sins and those of others, and let us experience that Love and share Him with others. We thank you Jesus from the bottom of our hearts. Amen --Father John 150 th Celebration of Sacred Heart of Jesus Montegut November 30 th 10 AM Mass Celebration followed by a reception at the Montegut Gym Please save the date and make plans to join us. PASSION/PALM SUNDAY- April 12 th & April 13 th We are in need of palm branches for the Palm Sunday Celebration. Anyone who can donate palms is asked to deliver them by Friday afternoon, April 11 th, and place them on the ground near the Calvary Scene (not on it). We would ask that you wash and trim the lower portions of the branches so that the parishioners can more easily carry them. Thanks!! EASTER FLOWER MEMORIALS All Easter Flower Memorials should be returned to the rectory by Monday, April 14 th to be included in the Easter Sunday bulletin. CHRISM MASS The Chrism Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 15 7:00 p.m. at St. Francis De Sales. This Mass is a spiritual, uplifting celebration at which the holy oils for sacramental use will be consecrated. The Bishop and priests of the diocese will also renew their commitment to ministerial priesthood. The Bishop has asked that parishioners from every parish take part in this celebration. SEDER MEAL Seder Meal will be held on Wednesday, April 16 6:30 pm at the Rectory. The cost is $7.00, children under 12, free. It is a great opportunity to become part of the Lenten experience. It promises to be as great as last year!! This is a cover dish event. HOLY THURSDAY Mass of the Lord s Supper will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 17 th. Solemn Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held until 11 pm. All parishioners are asked to come and spend some time with the Lord in prayer and adoration. A signup sheet is located in the vestibule for Adoration. WALKING WAY OF THE CROSS The Walking Way of the Cross will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Good Friday, April 18 th. As we did last year, we will walk throughout the neighborhoods with the wooden cross of Christ praying the stations. Way of the Cross will also be held inside the church for those who are unable to participate in the walking Way of the Cross. When the group returns to the church, we will have egg and tuna salad sandwiches, chips, and drinks for everyone. Anyone who can assist with this expense is asked to place their monetary donation in an envelope and drop it in the collection or by the rectory. We hope everyone tries to participate in this wonderful demonstration of our Catholic Faith. THE LORD S PASSION Services for The Lord s Passion will be held on Good Friday, April 18 3:00 pm. On Good Friday, our parish will take up the annual collection for the Holy Land. Your financial contribution helps to support the struggling Christian Community and to protect Christianity s holiest places. Please be generous. HOLY SATURDAY Easter Vigil, April 19 8:00 pm. Blessing of fire, water and Easter Candle. Renewal of Baptismal Promises. EASTER SUNDAY Morning Mass, April 20 9:00 am EASTER EGG HUNT An Easter Egg Hunt will be held following the 9:00 a.m. Easter Sunday Mass. All children are reminded to bring their Easter baskets! EASTER QUOTAS The monies collected from the Easter Masses help to fund education to ministry in the Diocese. Each parish is required to give one week s average collection to assist with this ministry. Sacred Heart s quota is $2, Because this is a normal week s collection, we ask that you give double your normal contribution to cover the parish expenses for Easter week. If we do not meet our quota, we will have to pay the quota out of the parish operating fund. Please be generous as you always are.
