It s that time of year when time seems to speed up. Halloween is right around the corner, then Thanksgiving, Christmas, and before you know it, New Year s Eve, 2012, and another year is over. With the holiday season right around the corner, I just wanted to let everyone know we will be sponsoring a family for Christmas through Catholic Social Services. We will also be helping the knights with the annual Christmas raffle so please call Sandra Dietz if you would like some tickets. Life gets very hectic this time of year and it is so easy to get caught up in hype and urgencies, please remember to take time for priorities like family and God. If they encountered bigotry and prejudice, they must act with courage and integrity. The story also explained the origin of the feast of Purim, a major Jewish feast day. The story was also a political satire, showing the danger of giving absolute power to a monarch who turned out to be a fool. The Persian king in the story, Ahasuerus, governed by whim rather than by wisdom, becoming the tool of anyone shrewd enough to exploit him. The lesson is clear: do not give too much power to any one person; in the long run God alone should rule us. Christianity is often accused of causing the terrible anti-semitism that has shamed the modern world. In fact, this story shows that anti-semitism existed long before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth.

Harriet was the Secretary at Annunziata for forty years before retiring. She was married to Brother Donald Pellegrin and son Brother Gregg Pellegrin our Past Grand Knight. She will be missed by all.

8 Ask eligible men to join Usually, I use this space to talk about our safe, secure life insurance, retirement and long-term care products. This time, I want to address the growth of the Order. For all of us this is the fuel that keeps this great fraternal engine running. All of our charitable works in the council, state, national and international level are thanks to our hardworking members. We also recognize that the membership blitz is a tried and true way for councils to increase their numbers. We see these pushes often in March, in celebration of Founder s Day, and again in October. These drives are successful because brother Knights are more visible than normal, during and after Masses and at special events. We remember to ask each and every Catholic gentleman to join our ranks for the good of the Church, community and Order. You probably know an eligible Catholic man you could ask today. Chances are that the only reason he hasn t joined already is because no one asked him. When telling a prospect about the strengths of the Order, don t forget our greatest fraternal benefit: our insurance program. This is often an interesting selling point to a potential member who is on the fence. Many members come into the Knighthood simply to be able to buy coverage for their family. Soon after, they realize the good our charitable works do for their community and they are hooked. As your professional Knights of Columbus insurance agent, I look forward to helping us grow in fraternity in any way that I can.
