1 TRINITY CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER PRINCIPAL Mr Simon Dell Oro Oakgrove Drive, Narre Warren South Phone: Web: Fax: Trinity Catholic Primary School is committed to providing an education that develops the whole person. We believe that the social, emotional, moral, spiritual and physical wellbeing of our students is pivotal to student health, safety, learning and success. Dear Parents, It is wonderful to see the junior students enjoying their new learning space. The students and staff have settled in well. The latest update on the buildings are as follows; Marian Building (Junior Learning Area) Currently approximately 95% complete. We are still awaiting some extra furniture, some gremlins to be sorted with the wifi connection, pinboards to be installed, some extra painting and a couple of small items to be completed. Parents visiting the space would have seen the new ottoman s and stools. Joyce Building (Middle Learning Area) Work has commenced on the refurbishment. We expect that this will be completed by the middle of October for the grade 3/4 students to move in. Allen Building (Senior Learning Area) The Allen Building will commence at the completion of the Joyce Building. We expect this to be around the middle of October and it will hopefully be completed by the start of the new school year. Administration Building The Administration Building refurbishment will commence at the beginning of 2017 and will be completed by April / May. We are still organising where we will temporarily house the administration throughout this period. Discovery, Design, Technology and Performing Arts Centre Initial work has commenced in the space (the old library area). The full establishment of this exciting new area will be interrupted for a period of time as the senior students will need to use it as classroom space during the Allen refurbishment. We hope to have it up and running early in Bishop Pat O Regan Visits Confirmation Candidates Last Friday we were very blessed to enjoy a visit from Bishop Pat at Trinity. Generously he offered his time to come and talk to our Confirmation Candidates about the very special Sacrament they will be receiving this weekend. We thank Bishop Pat for visiting Trinity and wish our Confirmation Candidates all the very best for this weekend. Book Week Parade and Activities Thanks to Kath Gatehouse and Kathryn Pepper for the organisation of the Book Week Parade and activities. Lightning Premiership Next Friday all grade 5/6 students will be participating in our local Catholic Schools Lightning Premiership. Thanks to St Francis Xavier Secondary College who allow us the use of their grounds and allow their Year 10 students to umpire the games. This event has been held for many years now and it would not occur without the support of SFX. Games commence at 10.00am, parents are most welcome to attend. Details of where your child will be playing is provided on the permission notice Class Placements If parents have a genuine reason for class placement requests for next year, could you please put them in writing addressed to myself by Friday 16 th October. An enormous amount of time and effort is put into the creation of class lists and many factors are taken into consideration by staff. A written request will be considered on its merits but it is not a guarantee. Who is teaching which grade has not yet been decided so please do not request certain teachers. At Trinity we work on a whole school approach and we are blessed to have a committed teaching staff who collaborate together to give the very best learning opportunities to all students in our care. Please be aware that a request has to be made for this current year, we will not be referring to requests made 12 months ago as circumstances change. Staffing News This week we welcomed back Michelle Nolan who returned after enjoying her honeymoon, a big thanks to Nicola Schultze for the great job she did teaching 2N in Michelle s absence. Corina Watson has commenced her Long Service Leave this week, thanks to Jacinta Browning for teaching 3-6 ICT in Corina s absence. 5 What is GAFE? Google Apps for Education (GAFE) is a selection of applications that Google offers to schools and educational institutions for FREE. These apps include Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs and Sites, and a GAFE account which unlocks access to dozens of other collaborative tools supported by Google. All these applications exist online (in the cloud), meaning that all creations can be accessed from any device with an internet connection. Trinity has decided to embrace Google Apps for Education, registering our domain address (web address), and currently teacher and administrator accounts are in the process of installation. Google Apps for Education core services include: Classroom: Classroom saves time and paper, and makes it easy to create classes, distribute assignments, communicate, and stay organised. Gmail: storage, highly effective spam filtering and powerful search with integrated voice and video chat. Drive: File storage, file/folder sharing, online collaboration and sharing in docs spreadsheets & presentations, etc. Calendar: Easy coordination of work, assignments or class schedules, meetings and events online. Docs: Collaborate on a document, create and edit and then share with others. Sheets: Like Microsoft Excel, you can manipulate data and keep track of it. Slides: Create slideshows that you can collaborate on and share. Sites: Develop rich websites and embed Google Docs, Google Calendars, videos and other media no HTML required. Hangouts: Live group video calls with up to ten friends, can be recorded for viewing later. At Trinity: We are currently in the process of setting up Google accounts for staff. Trinity staff are learning to access and collaborate documents using Google applications. We are currently spending time exploring the possibilities Gmail, Drive and Docs to familiarise ourselves with the intricacies of each app. In preparation for student mail and document migration into Google Applications for Education in the future we are also preparing recently purchased Chromebooks for student use. 6 Please pray for us! Some senior students are completing the sacrament of Confirmation this weekend. This sacrament is about people confirming their love for God and for His Church. It is a renewing of their Baptismal promises. The person being confirmed has chosen themselves to declare that they believe in God and want to be part of the Catholic faith community. We as young adults are able to make this choice ourselves. We pick a sponsor who will always be there for us and we also pick a Saint who will watch over us and is someone whom we admire.the Saint s name becomes one of that person s middle name, a name they have chosen for themselves. During the ceremony of Confirmation the Bishop gently touches the person on the face, the reason why is to help encourage the Holy Spirit in a friendly gesture. We pray that we use the gifts that the Holy Spirit has given us in a way that helps others and makes us to be good Christians. As we make this Sacrament, please pray for us! Writer: Hayley M 6C Bishop Pat On the 26/08/16 Bishop Pat (formally known as Bishop Patrick O Reagen) came to Trinity Catholic Primary School to help and prepare us for confirmation. Confirmation is the final step in our faith journey and the start of a new life committed to God and helping others. It was great when Bishop Pat came to teach us about what we will expect when we receive confirmation at the church and that we can use the gifts of the Holy Spirit in our everyday life. When Bishop Pat first arrived he asked us about our saint names and why we chose that particular saint. He also told us that we should treat our chosen saint like a guide and a friend. Although we had the choice of choosing a saint we could also choose an important person in our life. After we discussed about our saints Bishop Pat told us about what we will be doing on our confirmation day. He told us how we were to have our sponsors (a special person in our life) put a hand on our shoulder while the Bishop Pat says a silent prayer in his head. We also get blessed with chrism (special oil) and get the Holy Spirit descend upon us. Finally he talked about the fruits of the Holy Spirit and why they are so special in our lives. Having Bishop Pat come to give us an understanding of confirmation was a great experience for everyone and we are now a step closer to God in our faith journey. By Rohan

7 This year the netball teams were amazing. They were so encouraging to their teammates and other teams which you could easily see on court. We would like to thank Miss Barker for umpiring the games and to Miss Johnson (my Mum) for helping to coach the 2 games as well as watching the kids who were off. In the end we only got to play 4 games because of the weather, where we missed out on playing 2 games. Just a big mention to all of the players who put in an amazing effort into playing are Sarah J, Sarah C, Javeria, Sophia, Shelby, Natasha, Olivia, Allanah, Charlee, Shelby, Harry, Emily, Cleo, Tiah, Ethan, Thalia, Brooke and Alicia. GREAT EFFORT TO EVERYONE IN GRADE 6. Light Dark No game GO No game 12-6 won TRINITY lost 14-4 won 7-10 lost 10-7 won 8-3 won No game no game 17-8 won 8-5 won Congratulations to all the players who put all of their effort into playing 4 great games!!! By Sarah This year in Newcombe for the interschool sport we had some amazing players but we didn t win a lot of the games. Newcombe had a successful run in the last couple of games. We had to cancel quite a few games because of the weather conditions. In the first game Trinity lost to St Catherine s, we had to leave the area because they had assembly. We lost the next couple of games to other schools until we versed St Michaels. We had a successful win but we lost the second game. After a fortnight we played St Michael s again and we won both games by a mile, everyone was so happy. After we had played both games we did a mixed game some of Trinity and some from St Michael s on one team and the same on the other team, we had a great time. We all give a big thank you to Miss Edmanson for teaching us how to play Newcombe and helping us and to Mrs Wells for coming to every single game. By Gabrielle Dempsey

8 This year football did an amazing job. Every game we played, everyone tried their best. We also won every game, so good job boys and girls. The scores were Trinity 34, St Catherine s 21. Also a massive thanks to Rina L [Braeden s mum] for bringing the oranges. Our second game we played St Michaels. Everyone played awesome, there was no top players. The scores where Trinity 78, St Michaels 12. Special thanks to Mrs. Cassar, Mr Del Oro and Mr Smith. A special thanks to Mrs Vogrig for supplying us with oranges at half time. Our next game we played St Johns. This was really good also, a home game. The scores were Trinity 88, St Johns 83. Special thanks to Mrs. Cassar, Mr. Argoon, Mr Del Oro and also thanks to all the parents and the kids here at Trinity for coming to support us and cheering us on. Our last game we played St Michael s, the scores were Trinity 44 St Michael s 6. Thanks to Mrs. Cramp for coming to watch us, Mrs. Cassar, Mr Smith and Miss. Rogers for scoring. 14 OUR LADY HELP OF CHRISTIANS PARISH Diocese of Sale Ph: (03) Fax: (03) PARISH STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM 2016 Our Stewardship Program continues this week as we focus on how Our Parish Community celebrates faith. Fr Brendan will speak to us about the significance of how our parish comes together as a community to celebrate the Eucharist. To quote Pope Francis in the National Catholic Reporter: Celebrating the Eucharist should make a difference in the way a parish community lives. At Mass, Christ gathers people around him to nourish us with his word and his life. This means that the mission and identity of the church begin and take form at Mass. ALPHA will be starting at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish on August 31 st 7pm in the Don Bosco school hall. Alpha explores the big issues of the life and the Christian faith in a richly entertaining way. Participants share a meal, watch the Alpha short movies and participate in small group discussion.it goes for 6 Wednesday nights and one weekend session. It is a wonderful film series/ program and the benefits are great-even life changing. It is good for exploring the Christian faith or finding renewal for the spirit. If you would care to be part of this whether you are a Christian or not please contact Conny on to register. PARISH INFORMATION MEETING All parishioners are warmly invited to the key meeting of the Program, the Parish Information Meeting on the 6 th of September.
