Please advise the School Office if you do not approve of your child s photo being used. From the Principal s desk. Welcome to Week 2. What a smooth start to the term last week. Although a shorter week, the achievements and commitment to excellence for the entire school community was evident. Well done. Last week we also welcomed Miss Hawke to the teaching team. Miss Hawke is teaching 2 Gold in Mrs Noonan s absence. This Thursday we will be coming together to celebrate our Mothers with a special Liturgy for Mothers Day. Please feel very welcome to join us for the Liturgy. Mothers Day is a special day when we can spoil our Mums. I am also very aware that it can be a reflective day when we remember our Mothers or Grandmothers who are no longer with us. I like to hold onto the joyful memories. I hope all of our Mums do have a wonderful day this Sunday. You Were There... You were there when we took our first steps, And went unsteadily across the floor. You pushed and prodded: encouraged and guided, Until our steps took us out the door... You worry now "Are they ok?" Is there more you could have done? As we walk the paths of our unknown You wonder"where have my children gone?" Where we are is where you have led us, With your special love you showed us a way, To believe in ourselves and the decisions we make. Taking on the challenge of life day-to-day. And where we go you can be sure, In spirit you shall never be alone. For where you are is what matters most to us, Because to us that will always be home... 2 NAPLAN TESTING Years 3 & 5 will be participating in the '2016 National Assessment Program - Literacy & Numeracy' in Week 3. Test dates are 10, 11 & 12 May. Although these tests are important, they are only one small measure of success. Please ensure your children have plenty of sleep and a good breakfast on the test days. For more information, go to: Kinder 2017 Enrolment for Kinder 2017 is now open. Please contact the office for an application form. Gospel and Reflection: John 14:23-29 Jesus said to his disciples: If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shall make our home with him. Those who do not love me do not keep my words. and my word is not my own: it is the word of the one who sent me. I have said these things to you while still with you; but the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all I have said to you. Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you, a peace the world cannot give, this is my gift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. you heard me say: I am going away, and shall return. If you loved me you would have been glad to know that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. I have told you this now before it happens. Reflection If you love me you will keep my word...these words are a simple statement of cause and effect. Loving Jesus has profound effects on behaviour. Growing in the love of Jesus changes everything, not necessarily dramatically or suddenly, but absolutely certainly. His revelation of himself to the disciple who seeks him is accompanied by growth in selfknowledge and growth in virtue. The light of the love of Jesus lingers on those areas within which do not reflect his light. Allowing his light to penetrate these darker parts can be painful and humbling, but as love fills the darkness it will lead to changes in behaviour and attitude. The gift of the journey into these deep regions is peace, the peace the world cannot give, and a greater capacity to love and to be filled with the love of Jesus.

3 The effort lies in being continually open to Christ. Prayer is at the heart of openness; it opens the door to the encounter with him, whatever form it may take or whenever it may happen, within a time of prayer or at some other time. Cross Country All the best of luck to our students who are competing at the Cross Country event in Coolah tomorrow. Have fun. Term 2 statements will be sent out shortly. If you have any concerns or are experiencing any difficulty regarding your fees, please contact the school on or dubsjpfees@bth.catholic.edu.au Options for payment of school fees are direct debit, BPay, Credit Card as well as cash or cheque paid at the school office. Please note that payment of school fees by parents direct into the St John s Primary School bank account is no longer an available option. If you are intending to pay by BPay and your BPay reference number is only showing 4 digits, you should add 3 zeros (000) at the beginning of the reference number. If you have not yet adjusted your payment plan for 2016, it is important that you do so as soon as possible so that your account doesn t fall behind. SPORTS NEWS The bus which will take students to the Cross Country Carnival in Coolah will leave St John s Primary School tomorrow morning at 7:30am and should return around 4:00pm. Miss Colquhoun will accompany our students P&F CLOTHING POOL The clothing pool will be open this Thursday, May 5.. Anyone looking for some pre-loved winter uniforms is encouraged to come along. The clothing pool is held inside the school library from 8:30am until 9am. Anyone with clothing that their children have outgrown is also encouraged to bring them in on that day or drop them in to the school office anytime.

4 Religious Education News Term 2, Week Two, 2016 Mother s Day Liturgy This Thursday, 5th May, we will be holding a Mother s Day Liturgy in our school hall commencing at 10am. Kindergarten (along with some help from their Year 6 buddies), will be our organisers for this liturgy. This will be followed by a Morning Tea for Mum s co-ordinated by our hardworking P&F Association. Please come along and join-in on the day if you are able. All are very welcome. REC Conference This Thursday and Friday I will be attending the annual diocesan Religious Education Coordinator s Conference in Bathurst. Themes for this year include: Engaging Young People in Prayer, Worship and Liturgy the new Evangelisation, and Contemporary Approaches to Music. Year 6 Religious Education Test The annual Year 6 RE Test will be held on Wednesday 15th June. It involves 50 multiple choice questions covering a diverse range of Religious knowledge taught over the last 7 years of primary schooling. Last year, St John s Primary achieved well-above the Diocesan average which was an excellent result. Students who are absent on the day may complete the test on Thursday 16th or Friday 17th only. Year 6 Confirmation Next Week, Confirmation Home Groups commence for many of our Year 6 students. As there are only three Home Group sessions it is very important that students do not miss any of the lessons. In conjunction, Year 6 will also be focussing on the Sacrament of Confirmation in their classroom RE Lessons. Confirmation is one of the sacraments of initiation by which baptised Christians receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit which strengthen them in their faith. Class Morning Liturgies Later this term, Fr Greg will be attending Morning Liturgies with each grade, immediately following our Morning Assembly. Parents are very welcome to attend. The Timetable is: 16th June-Year4, 17th June- Year1, 20th June-Year6, 23rd June-Year5, 24th June-Year2, 27th June-Year3, 28th June-Kindergarten. Year 2 Excursion In a brief, non-religious matter, Year 2 parents should note that we have booked our Year 2 students into the exciting Snugglepot and Cuddlepie theatre show at the DRTCC for Thursday 30th June. 5 Just a few housekeeping issues: Canteen News Please don t use staples to secure lunch order bags. It is time-consuming to remove them and often the bags will rip. If you are placing an order for more than one of your children and combining the payment, please ensure that all the order bags are together with the payment. Once the orders are processed and change given, the orders will be put with their class orders. More and more often now we are receiving lunch orders and no money. If you are ordering lunch for your children, please make sure that the money comes with the order. Sending money in later is far from ideal. Friday helper this week is Karen Christensen.
