1 July 2016 Glorifying God by Reaching, Building, Serving From Randy... The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts they form one body.now you are the body of Christ and each one of you is a part of it. (1 Cor. 12: 12,27) He Touched Me is the theme of this year s Revival scheduled for August This year we are structuring our services a little differently. Homecoming will be Sunday, August 7, with a homecoming meal following the 11:00 am worship service. Rev. Joel Nelson will be our Homecoming and Revival speaker. He is dynamic and a great preacher! Revival services begin at 7:00 pm each night. On Monday through Wednesday nights we will be serving a free, that s right, a FREE meal beginning at 6:15 pm for everyone who comes. Our services will include a variety of groups singing for about 20 minutes each night: Monday: Shiloh Singers (choir and specials) Tuesday: Josh Grigsby and County Line Band Wednesday: Music provided by New Destiny Singers A special treat will be provided by our Deacons on Tuesday night of Revival. Our deacons will be cooking and baking desserts for the Tuesday night meal. You will get to vote on the winning dessert. The winner will be announced during the service on Tuesday night. May God bless us with showers of blessings at our upcoming Revival services! Congratulations to Barbara Perry on her 5-year anniversary as Music Minister at Shiloh! Barbara began her ministry in July of In the short time I have been here, I have come to greatly appreciate her professionalism and her expertise in music and leadership. Take a moment to express to Barbara your appreciation for all she has done during her 5 years at Shiloh. We are blessed to have her on our staff. So how does one say I wish you were staying and at the same time say Congratulations and Blessings in the next chapter of your ministry? Some or most of you have heard by now that Ray Tubbs and his family will be starting a new ministry down the road a piece at Smithland Baptist Church in Heathsville. Ray will be the Pastor there beginning in August. He, Teresa, Joshua, Samantha, and Rachel have been part of the Shiloh family for a long time. They will always be a part of our family. Ray has made my transition here as Pastor to be so much easier. He has a love for children like no one else I know in children s ministry. Inside, he is just a kid himself! Thank you for all you have done, my friend. On a very personal note, I wish you were staying and Congratulations and Blessings in the next chapter of your ministry.

2 ince Pastor Randy s selection as pastor of Shiloh, it has S been difficult to get him to commit to an article about himself. Oh, there are pastors willing to toot their horns with little or no resistance; however, Pastor Randy is not one of those pastors; in fact, you can t even get him to take his horn out of the case. However, he s the one always ready to compliment anyone else on a good job and he has been known to get emotional when he sees good work being done in the church. Sometime you just have to search wherever you can in order to place the Spotlight on those special folks you know need to be recognized for their good works. Such is the case with Pastor Randy. In a recent sermon, Pastor Randy spoke on the roll of leadership that was thrust upon Joshua after the death of Moses. As I listened to his message, he explained in detail the challenges a leader must face when he or she is placed in the roll of leadership. He reflected on all categories of leadership within the church and he stated a good leader needs everyone to be on board to ensure the objectives or goals of the church are rightly accomplished for the Lord. For those in rolls of leadership within our church, he listed the basic characteristics of a good leader: Be strong, be courageous, do not be terrified, and do not be discouraged. I reflected on the process our pastor search team used to select Pastor Randolph Randy Allensworth III. In its selection process, the committee evidently was true to those four basic characteristics of leadership mentioned earlier. Pastor Randy s messages and actions exemplify his tireless efforts to encourage, challenge, and support each member of Shiloh to meet our church s own goal of reaching, building, and serving within our community and beyond. As most of you are aware, Pastor Randy is an individual whose roots run deep in the history of Shiloh. On at least two other occasions, I believe we have had this unique opportunity to select pastors with deep community ties. When we are so fortunate, we must always be mindful of the source from which we have benefited, the relationships, and the blessing these families have contributed through the years to this church. Pastor Randy often draws from his outdoor adventures. No, he doesn t tell us about that 10-point buck he bagged or Pastor Randy by Joe Parker The day before our Memorial Day service, Rob and Dee Dee Dean walked from headstone to headstone in the church cemetery placing American flags on the graves of veterans that had been overlooked. The next day at the Memorial Day service, Rob spoke briefly about his military life but specifically of those who gave all. He talked about obedience and patience and waiting for God to work everything out. His topic was Never Say Never. Borrowing from Rob s theme, we on the Publicity Team decided to take it in a different direction and introduce this editorial about Pastor Randy, who for all practical purposes said Never when the Publicity Team asked him to be interviewed for In the Spotlight. So thank you, Rob and Dee Dee, for your devotion to our veterans and for giving us the lead-in for this editorial. We ll plea for the Pastor s forgiveness later. the one he missed. He often reflects on the beauty he sees: like a bird on the wing, a sunrise, and the beauty of the changing seasons. The love of the outdoors is something he learned from his dad and one he treasures greatly. His dad, he once mentioned, is a small game hunter but Pastor Randy confided he sort of taught himself to be a deer hunter. Nonetheless, his dad often keeps him informed of any sightings of a big buck or the movement of a large gobbler. I have been told a good hunter must have an eye for detail, take note of movements, watch for signs and trails, look for changes in the wind directions, be prepared, know a good vantage point, and the list goes on. Through the years, I have known several pastors who were avid sportsmen and they were also great ministers for the Lord. I can readily see how the knowledge used by a good hunter can certainly be applied to God s ministry in many meaningful ways. In case you haven t noticed, there is a special kinship existing between Pastor Randy and his dad...to hurt one you have hurt the other. You can see Pastor Randy in his dad and his dad in Pastor Randy. That smile, as big as Texas, is still present every time I see Pastor Randy s dad. Pastor Randy will be the first to say he learned many things from his dad, and it is obvious he delights in becoming more like his dad. This excerpt from an earlier writing by Pastor Randy titled Dad reveals the true relationship between father and son and how the two converge: Like most, I, too, have gone through the different stages in our relationship. You remember them...at age four, my dad can do anything. At age 7, My dad sure is smart and knows a lot. At age 12, oh well, dad can t be expected to know everything about today s music and technology. At age 14,...my dad is so old fashioned and by age 21, he just doesn t understand the changes in the world. However, by the age of 25, Pastor Randy explains:...don t know when it happened but dad sure does know what he s talking about. And by age 30, it became, I think I will ask dad his advice. I wouldn t be surprised if his dad may often say to himself: I think I ll ask my son for his advice. What more could a father ask for than to know his son has now come full circle and is just like his dad.

3 Music News The summer just started and it is already July! Bible school was so much fun and it was great sharing the music with everyone from 2 years old to 100! What a great time! Next up is MUSIC CAMP!! We will present "Not your Average Joe," the story of Joseph on July 16 at 2:00 pm and then again on July 17 during our worship service. This fun musical, set in the 50's and 60's, is a great continuation of our study of Joseph this year. It is not too late to join in, kids who completed 2nd grade thru 7th grade are welcome to participate and we will take all the helpers we can get! WMU News I'd like to introduce you to some missionaries right here in Virginia! Meet Tony and Jan Johnson. They are from Lynchburg, Virginia, and serve as Virginia Baptist Venturers for the next two years in Southwest Virginia. As Venturers, they agree to serve for two years at a given location as missionaries. They work through the Baptist General Association of Virginia and serve a local community. Tony and Jan will live in Nickelsville during the duration of this partnership and coordinate local volunteer efforts. Among their responsibilities, they will Lead evangelism to local communities Assist local churches in reaching marginalized people Become acquainted with mission efforts of as sociations Develop greater unity via togetherness in the Body of Christ Help churches get to know and pray for each other Some of the many projects that they oversee include construction, social ministry, backyard Bible clubs, outreach and other types of ministry. Teams from all over the United States will come and help Tony & Jan this summer as they seek to further God's Kingdom in Southwest Virginia. Please pray for Tony & Jan as they are venturing out and leading others to Christ! Youth Group Area 51 The Shiloh youth kicked off the Summer in June with roller coasters at Kings Dominion; going on mission in Huntington, WV with World Changers; and then VBS! However, there are a number of remaining activities planned for the Summer. The youth will be meeting for fellowship, food, fun, Bible study and ministry preparation on four special Sundays: June 26, July 10, July 24 and Aug 14. Each of these sessions will start immediately following the Sunday worship service in the youth fellowship hall and are sure to involve a LOT of pizza! All middle school and high school youth are invited and encouraged to attend. In addition to the food and fun, we ll continue Bible lessons initiated during VBS and start preparing for new youth ministry opportunities that will start in the Fall. Several other Summer activities are planned. On July 16 following Music Camp, the youth will participate at Mars Hill and have opportunity to share their stories from World Changers with other youth in our community. Then on July 23, SPLASH!!! All the youth will enjoy a pool party! We re also planning an overnight youth lock-in at the church during Aug 5-6 just because it s FUN not getting sleep!!! Youth are encouraged to invite friends to join any of these Summer activities! Thanks again for supporting our youth on their mission trip and Rent-a-Teen. However, there s no reason why the service projects have to stop at World Changers. If you have a project and could use some help (or a younger back), I m sure we can find one or more young people who can help. Look for updates and details in the weekly bulletins and Area 51 s. Also, we re looking for adults willing to get involved and help out with youth activities. You may contact one of the youth leaders directly or send to youth@kgshiloh.org. 5 Children s Ministry What an awesome week of Vacation Bible School. I wish I could name every person that helped but I know I would leave somebody out. So a huge heartfelt thank you to every person who made VBS 2016 at Shiloh a huge success. It takes all of us to impact our community and I am so grateful to all of you that helped. Don t forget about Music camp coming up July from 9 am to noon. Summer is here. Seems like we never really got to enjoy spring. One season ends and another starts before we realize it. A little over four years ago I came back to Shiloh after a brief time away. I know God wanted me back at Shiloh and I have no regrets at all of coming back. With that said and with a heavy heart, my season at Shiloh is coming to an end. In 2012 I answered God s call to become ordained and on November 25, 2012, Shiloh ordained me into the ministry. I always told God to send me if He needed me. Well that time has come. Smithland Baptist Church in Heathsville has called me to be their pastor. Much time, thought and prayer have gone into this decision. I am not leaving Shiloh because of anything that has happened. In fact there is a piece of my heart that will always be here as I love this place and the people so much. I am leaving because God has called me into the next step of my ministry journey. My last day at Shiloh will be Sunday, July 31. It will be a day filled with many tears from my family and me. I am so thankful to God for my relationships at Shiloh and the many ways Shiloh has allowed me to serve. I love you all and ask that you keep my family and me in your prayers as we take this next step in our lives.
