1 February 2018 Glorifying God by Reaching, Building, Serving From Randy... The 12 Disciples have you ever wondered which of the 12 disciples you were most like? Or who at Shiloh had similar characteristics of one of the disciples? Join us on Wednesday nights following our meal to study the book, The Twelve. We meet in the Family Life Center starting around 6:15 pm and ending around 7:15 pm. It is an informal time to study, share, and get to know others. I commend you on your faithfulness the cold and sometimes snowy weather has not affected our attendances, our giving, or our choir. Can you believe that on Sunday, January 14, we had 31 choir members singing? I thought that when we renovated and extended our platform that we would have plenty of space. The pastor may have to preach from the steps! Now that would be a great result of a growing choir. Easter.April 1...Easter comes early this year. This is no April Fool. Because of the early date of Easter, our choir cantata, our children s Eggstravaganza, and a Good Friday service will be in the month of March. Look for those dates no April Fool! The Becker family is committing themselves to a 3-year missionary assignment to Guam. There is an interview of the family and their calling included in this newsletter. As a church, we want to commit to them our prayers and a financial commitment to be a part of their missionary journey overseas. Questions can be addressed to Mitch and Melinda Becker, to BOD members, or to myself. After their 3-year assignment is completed, they will then determine what God s calling will be for them. Let us pray for God s guidance upon them and upon Shiloh. We are family! As we are actively doing the many ministries that take place under the name of Shiloh Baptist Church, let us not forget that every ministry is to identify with one or more of our church s mission statement: Reach, Build, Serve. Keep Reaching others in the name of Christ. Keep Building up the Body of Christ. Keep Serving others as Christ modeled for us. 7th Annual Ladies Tea Saturday, March 10 2:00 4:00 pm Theme: Celebrate! They celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness. Speaker: Teresa Mills, WPER personality To reserve a table, Contact Sharon Band or sharon.band@va.metrocast.net Table guidelines are available on the missions table
2 M itch has been a believer in Christ since age 10. Raised in the rural plains of Colorado, Mitch attended college and then joined the Navy, completing a 26-year career in nuclear submarines. Melinda was also saved as a young girl. She was raised in the country, the foothills of Northern California, and attended college in San Diego where she and Mitch met. Married since 1995, the Lord blessed the Beckers with seven children and 15 character-building Navy moves before their transition to civilian life in During this transitional time, God began to impress His desire for the Beckers to serve Him in a more intentional way. Concurrently, Mitch and Melinda read Francis and Lisa Chan s book, You and Me Forever, which resulted in renewed urgency for spreading the gospel message. They began to pray for opportunities to serve where Mitch s technical talents could be utilized and where the family could contribute to the mission. Inspired as a child by a visiting Trans World Radio missionary, Mitch was captivated by stories of programming that leapt over political boundaries and crossed cultural and economic barriers, strengthening the persecuted and encouraging the faithful. From that early experience, and having esteemed the ministry for decades, Mitch and Melinda applied for missionary service and continue to see God s confirming fingerprints throughout the TWR appointment process. Once on the field, Melinda will continue to wrangle the littles while homeschooling the bigs: Mahala (14), Micaiah (12), Matthias (10), Moriah (8), Melea (6), Malachi (3), and Manoah (1). As a team of nine, the Becker M&M s are excited to contribute to broadcasting the Gospel of Hope to the nations. God Surely Loves M&M s The purpose of TWR is to assist the Church to fulfill the command of Jesus Christ to make disciples of all peoples through the use of mass media. TWR proclaims the gospel of salvation in 190 countries and 230 heart languages/dialects and instructs believers in biblical doctrine and Christ-like living through culturally relevant radio, satellite, and online programming. Contact Information TWR.org (7TWR) P.O. Box 8700 Cary, NC mbecker@twr.org (Mitch s ) mebecker@twr.org (Melinda s ) Mitch / Melinda The Becker M&M s: Mitch, Manoah, Matthias, Moriah, Mahala, Melea, Micaiah, Melinda, and Malachi Missionary-ing 101 How does a missionary become one? (after all they re just normal people) Applications, Interviews, and Screenings (LOADS): Medical suitability, personal finances/debt analysis, relationship health, psychological fitness (more than one needs to know about oneself), and spiritual evaluation. Appointment: An invitation to serve on TWR s global staff. (YEA!) Training: Orientation, Cross-Cultural and Interpersonal Workshops, Peer Coaching. Building Ministry Partnerships: Missionaries must grow a committed team of individuals and churches who will encourage and pray for them and provide monthly financial support. Why Won t They Leave? TWR missionaries must be 100% funded prior to leaving for the field. Moving costs are covered by pre-departure monthly and one-time gifts that accumulate into a relocation fund. (Once on the field, monthly donations go toward missionary living expenses.) Where in the World? The Beckers will be serving on the remote Pacific island of Guam. Mitch will be the Facilities Manager, leading equipment maintenance efforts and helping run the broadcasting station. A Loin Cloth is NOT part of the Deal: Not all missionaries move to the bush or translate Bibles (although those are fabulous ways to love Jesus). TWR, in particular, employs folks with technical experience. Maintaining radio towers and broadcasting stations are part of what keeps them on the air. Mitch will be part of that team, utilizing his prior military leadership and (nuclear) power knowhow.

It s hard to believe Christmas is behind us, the new year is here and Valentine s day is around the corner! Wednesday nights have started again. Come out and join us at 5:15 for dinner and then Music and for the children follows from 6:00-7:00. Upcoming events include roller skating at Stan s Skateland in Montross and Family Game Night. Watch the Sunday bulletins for event dates. If inclement weather occurs over a weekend, check our website, kgshiloh.org, for schedule changes. When King George County schools are closed due to severe weather, so are all church activities scheduled for that evening. Sunday School Ministry By Gail Davis February, the month we focus on LOVE. So to keep focus on who we love, here are several Bible verses to consider: Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them." Ephesians 4:2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." 1 Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." John 15:12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you." John 15:17 Our motto: I Jesus. Awana News By Lynn Pardee Christmas was wonderful for Awana because of all your generous donations. Children left with gifts for all their family members, wrapped and ready for under the tree. A huge thank you to the women who wrapped all the presents for our Awana clubbers. The present wrappers worked late into our dinner time wrapping all those gifts for the children. As spring approaches, our Bible Scholars will continue to memorize God s Word with the culmination being our Grand Prix race car event.
