3 St. Mary on the Hill According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Hope is the theological virtue by which we desire the kingdom of heaven and eternal life as our happiness, placing our trust in Christ s promises and relying not on our own strength but on on eternity as we live our daily lives and relying on God to provide for our needs and satisfy our deepest longings for meaning and happiness right now. The First Reading from Jeremiah, paints a vivid picture of the difference between On the other hand, the prophet teaches, Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose hope is in the Lord. Blessed are those who weep because they will laugh. Blessed are those who are hated, excluded and insulted because they are disciples of Jesus; they will be greatly rewarded in heaven. Jesus is describing rooted in God and who is focused on others and eternity. It is not always an easy life, but it is a deeply meaningful life and one that leads to eternal reward. are: the poor who place their trust in God; those who hunger for God and God s reign; those who weep because there is so much suffering and evil in the world; and those who are persecuted because they live their faith. Jesus then names four categories of people who will suffer misery because they do not put their trust in God. They are: the rich; the well-fed; the uncaring; and those who are accepted because they live by the world s values instead of the Gospel. These people have woes because they may forget that we must all be dependent on God and not on things. How do you help the most rejected in our society: the mentally ill, the homeless, the addicted?

THE AUGUSTA CHORAL SOCIETY The Augusta Choral Society, directed by Dr. J. Porter Stokes, will perform a large portion of Georg Frederic Handel s Messiah on the evening of Good at 7:30 pm, at Sacred Heart Cultural Center. Messiah is one of Handel s best known and most loved compositions and this performance will be done on the 260 th anniversary of his death. Joining the ACS for the performance will be Coraine Tate, soprano; Kristen Kasarjian, alto; George Kasarjian, tenor; Ramelle Brooks, bass; and the Lyra Vivace Chamber Orchestra.
