3 Our CCD Program ends for the school year this Sunday with an assembly and May Crowning of the Blessed Mother in the parish gym. I want to thank all our teachers, parents and students for your dedication and faithfulness to our CCD program. Thank you for making our beautiful Catholic faith a priority in your family life. May our Blessed Mother continue to guide you all deeper into the Mystery of God s love. With the close of CCD today, we begin an extraordinary season of farewells. Today we express our gratitude to Mrs. Barbara Kareis for the 31 years of dedicated service that she has given in directing our CCD program. Barbara has always led our religious education program with great joy and faith. She has been an amazing organizer and has been a wonderful mentor to both teachers and students. When faced with a difficult situation or last minute snag, Barbara s calm demeanor has helped her CCD co-director, Joan Purucker and I to trust that all would be okay. Her gentleness of spirit has made Barbara the best of co-workers. Her leadership will be greatly missed. The parish is blessed that Barbara will continue in her volunteer roles as our Coordinator of the Consolation Ministry and Sales Agent for our new Columbarium. Barbara, we thank you so very much for giving yourself so generously to the ministries of our Faith Community. On this Mother s Day, I have a deep sense of gratitude for having been blessed by the love of Irene Mary Ragan. My Mom lived her life immersed in love, a love for God and a love for others, exemplified by the love she showed her family and friends. She was a woman of faith who was blessed in so many ways and blessed so many others with that faith. As my Mother she blessed me with the gift of life twice. She gave birth to me in the natural world and as she taught me to pray and brought me to the Sacraments and helped me to keep my heart open to a priestly vocation, she gave birth to me in the supernatural world. So, to the women in our Faith Community who have given their children this double birth, into the natural world and into the supernatural world, we offer thanks to our Creator this day. In a special way this weekend we give thanks for all the Moms (and Dads) who have prepared their children for the reception of their first sacraments. You have not only given your sons and daughters the gift of life, but even more wonderfully you have given them the gifts that will lead to eternal life. Congratulations to our young parishioners making their First and (hopefully) Second Holy Communion this weekend. May there be thousands upon thousands more holy communions until the day that you are with Jesus forever in heaven. Thanks also to our Parish Teachers and Catechists who supported our First Communicants and their parents as they prepared for this major step in their faith journey. For all that you do, THANK YOU! 2017 Bishop s Annual Appeal Diocese of Savannah Thank you to those who have made their BAA pledge. As of the last report we received (5/2/17), 16.65% of our parishioners (406 families) have made a pledge to the Bishop s Annual Appeal. We have given $153,655 which is 65% of our target of $236,296. Our support of diocesan agencies and ministries is one way that we respond to God for all we have received. If you are not able to make a pledge, please consider a one-time gift. 5 WORSHIP Ushers There will be a meeting of all ushers on Monday, May 22 at 7:00 pm in the Church. If you serve as an usher at any of the weekend Masses, please plan to attend this important meeting. Focus on Abilities Mass The dates for the Focus on Abilities Mass for the next several months have been set. The mass has been scheduled for the fourth Sunday of the month at the 12:15 mass. The next one is Sunday, May 28. We want to get as many people involved in the mass as possible, so if you (or a family member) want to participate as an usher, greeter, gift bearer, lector or altar server (with proper training), please contact the church office or Estelle Mulherin Duncan at eduncan081954@yahoo.com. Homebound Visitation If there are parishioners who are homebound, in a nursing facility, or in the hospital and who wish pastoral visits and Holy Communion, please have a family member contact the Parish Office by calling (706) We rely on family members to notify us if there are patients to be visited. 6 CCD News: Registration Registration is ongoing for CCD (religious education for children attending non-catholic schools). CCD is for students entering grades kindergarten through eighth grade in the Fall. Registration fee is $25/student or maximum of $50/family. Please bring a copy of your child(ren) s baptismal certificate if not on file in the CCD Office. Senior Center Calendar for May is available in the Narthex. Elijah Cup will be at the 10:30 am Mass The Elijah Cup program is a ministry to foster and support priestly and religious vocations. The Elijah Cup is a chalice that is presented to a family, couple, or individual each Sunday at the offering of the gifts. The chalice is taken home and used as a focal point while praying for our current and future priests, deacons, and sisters. The chalice is returned the following Sunday. 7 Organ Recital Monday, May 15 Everyone is welcome to attend an Organ Recital on Monday, May 15 at 7:30 pm at St. Mary on the Hill Church. This training is required for Safe Environment Compliance for any adult who will come into contact with youth as part of their ministry (a listing of those ministries can be found at Church Picnic at Mistletoe State Park JOIN US ON Sunday, June 4 at Mistletoe State Park s Beach House shelter from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm to enjoy a day filled with fun, food, and fellowship as part of our ongoing 100-year celebration. Mass will be held at noon followed by a picnic lunch. A playground area is available as well as beach access to the lake for swimming. Other activities include volleyball, corn hole, frisbee and more. Kona Ice will be on hand to serve up shaved ice. A Big Green Egg Grill will be given to one lucky St. Mary s family! To enter the drawing, a ticket must be obtained through the church office and brought to the event. The drawing will be after Mass and you must be present to win.
