BE-Attitudes Jesus gave this sermon on a hillside near Capernaum, and it is believed that this Sermon on the Mount (Sermon on the Plain in the Gospel of Luke) probably lasted several days. Jesus broke through the traditional view of the law and talked about the attitudes of people. He stressed that it is as important to be, as to do. We might even call them The Be-Attitudes of Christianity. Tremendous crowds were following Jesus, he was the talk of the town. He preached with such simpleness and yet with much authority. The disciples were Jesus closest companions, and all of this attention certainly must have made them feel important, popular, and maybe even prideful. Being with Jesus gave them plenty of notoriety, as well as being faith healers of a sort. Jesus warned them about the temptations they would face as his associates, and some think his Sermon on the Mount may have been directed to his disciples, as well as everyone else in the crowd. We hear a lot of comments today that if you follow Jesus teachings, you will be successful, healthy, wealthy, and wise. Jesus really tells us to expect, not fame and fortune; but to expect mourning, hunger, and persecution. Jesus tell us not to look for our reward in this life. We will be rewarded, but not necessarily here on earth. The beatitudes are a standard of conduct for all Christian believers. There is a strong contrast in values. The kingdom values deal with eternal life and worldly values deal with what is temporary. They contrast the superficial faith of the Pharisees with the real faith Jesus wants. Today we are faced with the same challenge. We need to really look at our values and see if they are worldly values, or kingdom values. The beatitudes cannot be a multiple choice, pick what you want and leave the rest. To be a real follower of Jesus, these have to be your be-attitudes. God Bless, Dc. Lee

We are so glad you are here!!! Adult Faith Formation Monday, Jan. 30th at 7 PM!!! Parish Lounge Join us on Monday night January 30 at 7:00 pm for a continuation of the Adult Faith Formation series. Dennis Pedley will discuss the Eucharist. Dennis coordinates and trains our Eucharistic Ministers as well as presents information on the Eucharist to Confirmation classes and other groups. He will use a combination of his presentation material and the Symbolon Program videos. Children s Liturgy of the Word.. We are very excited to announce that our Children s Liturgy of the Word program continues this Sunday, January 29 th. The program is geared toward children ages 4-8 and will take place weekly during the Sunday, 10:30 a.m. Mass only. Children will be dismissed from Mass just after the Opening Prayer and will be led by adult volunteers to a designated classroom where they will hear the Gospel at their level and will participate in a fun activity, craft, or song related to the gospel message. The children will return to their family during the Offertory and will remain in the Church until the conclusion of Mass. Women s Retreat UPDATE: All Women of the Parish are invited to attend this year s Little Daughters of the Sacred Heart Retreat which will be held February s 17-19, at the Betania II Retreat Center in Medway, Massachusetts. St. Thomas Aquinas School... St. Thomas Aquinas School has announced its registration for the school year for Nursery (3 year-old), Pre K (4 year-old), and K through Grade 8.
