2 The Sunday Readings Theme: True wisdom is in knowing what is important in life, then having the courage to follow those insights. First Reading ( 1 Kgs 3:5, 7-12) This story of the young Solomon choosing wisdom above any gift God could shower upon him should cause us to ponder on what wisdom really is. Solomon gives us the answer: to distinguish right from wrong. This is important because our salvation depends upon it. Second Reading (Rom 8: 28-30) To those who love God all things work together for good. Loving God means that we respond to Him in faith and hope and that we keep His commandments. Gospel: (Mt 13: 44-52) Our Lord;s sermon on the kingdom of heaven which was given in parables concludes with today s reading. The buried treasure and the pearl are symbols of the worth of salvation.. No cost is too great to obtain them once we know their value. Thought for the Day: We must keep in mind the difference between wisdom and knowledge because they are sometimes confused. A man may know all the fine points of philosophy and every nuance of theology, but this knowledge does not mean that he a person faith. Wisdom can belong to the simplest of men. All he needs to know is the difference between right and wrong and follow that knowledge. Simply speaking, a saint could be said to be anyone who is currently residing in heaven. The Catholic Church, through the process of canonization, officially recognizes this fact. In the book "Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma", we read that a saint is " a member of the Church [who] has been assumed into eternal bliss and may be the object of general veneration." A saint is also a person of remarkable holiness who lived a life of heroic virtue, assisted by the Church, during their pilgrimage on earth. They are as varied and exceptional as only God could create them, and each has his own distinct story. Just as the moon reflects the light of the sun, we should reflect Jesus s love, mercy and forgiveness to others when we receive the Eucharist, the body and blood of Jesus Christ himself. This reflection is the effect of the gratitude for receiving all that God has given us allowing generosity to flow through us as we are created in the same light as God s image. 4 St. Coleman s Church Baptisms The following children have been welcomed into God s family Victor Nicholas Di Lorenzo Anthony John Sylvestri PRE BAPTISM CLASS The next class for parents wishing to have a child baptized will take place Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 7:30 pm You must preregister for this class in the Parish Office in order that necessary information and registration forms are completed. Participation in the parent preparation class is a requirement before the baptism takes place and both parents must attend. Wedding Preparations Please call the parish office at least 6 months in advance to complete all paperwork and make arrangements for your special day. St. Coleman s Women Club meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm in Parish Hall. St. Coleman s Men Club meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Parish Hall. The new President is Joe Cerquozzi St. Coleman Prayer Group meets on Thursday mornings at 8:00 am in the Church. If you cannot gather with us, but have a special intention feel free to contact Andrea Vitale at Choir Rehearsals Every Wednesday Children from 6:15 to 7:00 pm Adults from 7:30 to 9:00 pm Rehearsals every Wednesday from 6:15 to 7:00 pm in the church and Mass every Sunday at 9:00 am beginning August 23, 2017 through May Friends of St. Coleman FSC FSC is a small group of parishoners who would like to socially connect to our fellow parishoners.
