Marek The Sunday Readings Passion Sunday Theme: Lent draws to a close on a false note of triumph. The blessing and distribution of palms recalls Our Lord s exultant entry into Jerusalem for the last time. The Third Reading, however, reminds us that in less than a week these same streets will be stained with His blood. Only by suffering with Him can we fittingly celebrate the triumph of Easter. Participation in the parent preparation class is a requirement before the baptism takes place and both parents must attend.

Ministry News The Meaning of Palm Sunday Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, where he would be crucified five days later.

The event commemorated on Palm Sunday is told in all four gospels (Matthew 21, Mark 11, Luke 19, John 12). The Matthew narrative, is the one most commonly read in services on Palm Sunday.

Only Matthew indicates the price paid to Judas for betraying Jesus.

3 Ministry News The Meaning of Palm Sunday Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, where he would be crucified five days later. According to the Gospels, Jesus rode into town on a donkey as exuberant crowds hailed him as the Messiah and spread out palm branches and cloaks in his path. The event commemorated on Palm Sunday is told in all four gospels (Matthew 21, Mark 11, Luke 19, John 12). The Matthew narrative, is the one most commonly read in services on Palm Sunday. While the Gospels of Matthew and Mark have many parallels in their narrative of the Passion, there are a few details worth noting that are unique to Matthew. Only Matthew indicates the price paid to Judas for betraying Jesus. The story of Judas's death is also found only in Matthew, as is the detail that Pilate's wife received a warning in a dream and that Pilate washed his hands of Jesus' death. Finally, Matthew's Gospel alone mentions the earthquakes and other phenomena that happened after Jesus' death. The events of Jesus' Passion, death, and Resurrection are called the Paschal Mystery. No amount of study will exhaust or explain the depth of love that Jesus showed in offering this sacrifice for us. After we have examined and studied the stories we have received about these events, we are left with one final task to meditate on these events and on the forgiveness that Jesus' obedience won for us. Eucharistic Adoration I have a burning thirst to be honored by men in the Blessed Sacrament. (Jesus to St. Margaret Mary) The next Eucharist Adoration will be on Friday, May 5th, at 8:30 a.m. Bible Study Registration The St. Colman Catholic Scripture Study Program announces an exciting study opportunity coming this fall. All adult men and women of the parish are invited to join us for a 28 part Study entitled The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation. Classes meet weekly on Sunday afternoons from September through March. Please check the back of the church for registration information and forms as well as details on the curriculum. 6 St Coleman s Sister School in Haiti St. Coleman s Church and School are proud to sponsor a school in Haiti consisting of 230 students in the Corail Community in conjunction with Food for the Poor ( a 501 (c ) 3 organization located in Coconut Creek, Florida). The Corail School will become St. Coleman s Sister School in Haiti and our parish community will help provide school supplies and tuition needed by the school children. Can you help by giving $67 to supply one child with a full year of school supplies or $42 to sponsor a child s tuition for one year or both? at the elementary to primary grade levels (5-14 years old). A new school building provides an environment conducive to learning. The construction of 25 double unit houses with water and sanitation facilities provide a safe and more suitable environment to raise a family. The houses are built on a cement foundation with concrete block walls, and topped with a galvanized sheet roof.
