Also if you do not need handicapped parking please do not park in the spaces by the rectory especially on Sunday mornings. The offering for June 24/25: $2782; Peter Pence: $546 In order to meet our expenses, we need to collect at least $2500 in our weekly offering! FREEDOM Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves and under a just God cannot long retain it. --Abraham Lincoln UPDATE ON SENIOR CITIZEN ASSISTANCE We always need more parishioners to volunteer for even an hour a year. Our seniors are the least likely to speak up to let us know that they need assistance. We need all parishioners to be alert to seniors who are your fellow parishioners, neighbors or other community members who might not have anyone checking in on them. Even if you do not have the time or resources to help, please at least let Fr. Dan know your concerns so that no Senior Citizen in Williston or Richmond goes unnoticed. And, if YOU are a senior who needs assistance (from changing a light bulb to something you consider major), please do not hesitate to speak up. It does not matter if you are a registered parishioner or even if you are Catholic. Please know that you are never alone. Call or Father Dan at or him at djordan@vermontcatholic.org. Alternatively, you can also call Pam K. at or at pamk@together.net or talk to a parishioner to speak on your behalf. You are never alone. God bless our Senior Citizens and God bless our younger generations. Our seniors are the pillars of our Church and non-seniors are the future of the Church. Please pray for all of us. IHM CARD MINISTRY Do you know that IHM has a Card Ministry to send cards to the homebound holidays, as well as those grieving, dealing with difficulties, are sick, lonely, or celebrating a sacrament or other special occasion? Because we do not always know who these people are, please keep us posted on anyone you feel would like or benefit from a card from Father Dan and the IHM. SAINT ANNE S SHRINE UPDATES The Diocese of Burlington will hold a Family Day with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Coyne at St. Anne s Shrine on July 9 at 12:15 PM, followed by a BBQ on the grounds. A reminder that a 9:00 AM morning Mass is now celebrated every Sunday, along with the 10:30 AM. Mass. Mass on Saturday evenings at 7:00 PM. We will begin the weekday Mass on Monday, June 26th at 11:15 AM. Monday through Friday, with Reflection Series talks on Wednesdays after Mass, concluding with lunch. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION It's Independence Day week, and there is a link worth tracing between the Declaration of Independence and the language of liturgy. One of the signers of the Declaration on that July 4 long ago was Charles Carroll, probably the wealthiest man in the colonies and one of the few Catholics on the political scene. As a flourish to his signature, he sought to distinguish himself from other prominent citizens bearing the same name by penning "Charles Carroll of Carrolltown"--a defiant "come and get me if you dare" postscript aimed at the British. Carroll's brother John was a priest and patriot who in 1789 was given the task of organizing the Catholic Church in this country. By 1791 he had assembled a synod, or assembly of delegates, to launch that task formally. Archbishop Carroll wanted to gain acceptance of our faith by American people who mistrusted our customs and could not comprehend our liturgy. He made the amazing proposal to Rome that our liturgy should be prayed not in Latin, but in the vernacular, English. His wish was denied, but one hundred sixty years later, his deep desire helped the American bishops and scholars at the Second Vatican Council to win the vote in favor of the vernacular not just for the United States, but for the Church throughout the world. --Rev. HAPPY AND SAFE 4TH OF JULY Fatima Centennial Vermont Tour for Peace Parishioners please come and celebrate the Centenary Year of Our Lady's appearance and her messages. The Blue Army Vermont and the Diocese of Burlington had selected 7 churches to host the celebration of Graces, between May through October, Tour #3 will be July 1st, at St. Augustine, Montpelier, VT. 9:00 AM - start with the procession with the Fatima state statue, Rosary and Confession. 10:00 AM -Mass with the Blessing and distribution of the Brown Scapulars of Our Lady of Mt.Carmel. Please bring some flowers (small potted plant or cut flowers from your garden) to be presented to the Lady while she stays at the church until her next visit on July 15th- 10:00 AM at St. Paul Church, Barton, VT. THE RICHNESS OF LIFE IN CHRIST Today we have the beautiful story of the woman promised a child, the wonderful exhortation about life in Christ, and a powerful instruction from Jesus. An embarrassment of riches? Not if we take Jesus' words about "welcome" to heart. The many challenges and blessings offered to us today by Elisha, Paul, and Jesus should be cause for rejoicing, and welcomed heartily into our lives. And, like the great treat that they are, they should be enjoyed and shared generously with others. Today's reading from Romans was chosen very early in the liturgical life of the Church to be the sole apostolic instruction received by candidates for baptism at the Easter Vigil. This illustrates its importance as a core belief, and as a means of comprehending the story of the Resurrection. Christ's resurrection is not merely a story about something that he underwent once upon a time, but it is our story, the story of how we joined the other members of the one Body of Christ, the church.
