3 O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. (Psalm 95:1-3,6-7a) As God s people we are called to gather to worship. As Christians we gather in the name of the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We worship one God made known to us in three distinct persons. God the Father, maker of heaven and earth. God the Son, who became human like us. God the Holy Spirit, the giver of life. We praise God for being God. We give God thanks for all that God has done for us. We hear God s word, through the reading of Scripture and proclamation. We bring our concerns to God for the church, the world and all in need. We are fed with Jesus body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. And we are sent out to love and serve as God s people in our community and the world. Beginning in June there will be another opportunity to gather for worship here at First. Through the summer months, we will have a worship service on Thursday evenings at 6:30. This service will have the same readings and message as the following Sunday. The music will vary somewhat from the Sunday hymns. As God s people we are called to gather to worship. Through the summer, plan on joining us on either Thursday evening or Sunday morning for worship. Come, let us worship the Lord! Peace, Pastor Kathy

4 May 10, 2018 Members Present: Rita Bennett, Jean Gottfried, Joyce Kuenzli, Lia Rife, Duane Shock, Linda Welker Excused: Lynn Burks, Amanda Rowlinson, Al Stoneburner, Chad Stoneburner Also present: Pr. Kathy Shuck and Kristin Ealy Opening devotion Pr. included her report; Visits, Meetings, finishing up catechism, attending the Southeastern Conference Women s Spring Assembly. Experiences REACH for the first time! Kristin gave a small report, mostly about update on an ant problem the church experienced. Exterminator was in to help combat and seems to be okay for now spring draws them yearly. Also, asked for cooperation with anyone scheduling the church for contractors or meetings, to see if the space is open before scheduling. It is nice to have a central calendar for this purpose and to also know when people are in the building, for safety and general courtesy. Old Business 1- Synod Assembly is June 8 th and 9 th. First still need a male representative to attend. Please pr. Kathy or Kristin if you or someone you know is able. 2- Confirmation students were met with on May 6 th. Several council members were on hand to have a great discussion with the candidates! 3- Dick Newell approached Duane Shock, facilities, to see if the lift chair could be taken by the Ziegler s. It was all fine so the chair has a new home! New Business 1- Summer Food Program- Karen Magers has decided to take a step back from the program. Existing coordinator Lynn Burks will need a few people to step up to help out with this wonderful ministry. Discussion: 1- Summer Worship on Thursday for this service there will be increase in printing needs, electricity and with Dean Clausing to play. Pr. Kathy wanted to make sure that council was aware as this wasn t in the proposed yearly budget. 2- Dish cloths in the past were sold as a fundraising effort for Sunshine and Sympathy. Brenda Ziegler is now handling Sunshine and Sympathy and knew that we weren t able to receive towels from previous vendor. She has since obtained the information and has placed an order. Coincidentally, her parents, who received the liftchair, from First have decided to purchase the initial shipment of towels for the church to sell. More information to come! 3- Kristin has asked congregation to take a new family photo for our FB and website. This will be on May 20 th after service.

5 Committee Reports: Christian Education collecting items to create a kids corner for the south room. This is in the works and more information to come. Fellowship- Lynn Burks notified Kristin via text that she will be taking a break from making the goodies for Sunday morning fellowship. Kristin thanked Lynn as we have all appreciated it over the years. A sign up sheet has been posted and various pleas via newsletter and such over the years have brought no offers. Kristin told Lynn that if people missed having those items, then they will sign up. Drink will still be offered. Last day for Sunday School, May 20 th, fellowship will sponsor a Putt Putt Party after service. All are welcome to attend, pizza and golf for kids will be taken care of by the church and adults, if desire, will be paying their own. There are a few activities being planned for June. Facilities- Al Stoneburner via The facility committee has been busy. They hired Bob Hall to refurbish the downstairs bathrooms with new sinks and some new plumbing. Both bathrooms will be repainted. Bob also replaced furnace filters. After making an inventory of tables and chairs, they repaired the broken tables. They spruced up outside in preparation of planting rose bushes. They are getting estimates for striping the top parking lot and sealing the bottom lot. They are also getting estimates for new sliding doors both upstairs and downstairs. In the near future they will be working on some spouting and drainage problems. Duane Shock reported at the meeting that estimates for the new sliding accordion doors are coming in at high amounts. Further research is being conducted for other options. Outreach -Via from Rita Bennett: Final work crew assignments were made for the Pork Chop BBQ scheduled for May meals (800 chops) will be prepared with serving starting at 4 PM. Slaw will be made on Tuesday, May 15 starting at 9 AM. Poster for food donations posted with most needs being met to date. Possible local mission to support included: Hannah s House, Open Door, Good Samaritan, WXML, Christian Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Wyandot Cares, LOMO, ELCA Good Gifts, Disaster Relief, Art Connections, and Infirmary Cemetery. No decision made. Summer outdoor worship scheduled for July 29. Menu was discussed for picnic with suggestion that church provide all food hot dogs, baked beans, chips, relishes and cookies/brownies for dessert. Maybe fruit or melons also. Nothing finalized at this time. Summer Thursday worship times discussed with 5 PM or twilight suggested. Outreach committee thought it a good idea to send personal postcards to members announcing this alternate service, particularly to this members we don t see at worship regularly. Emphasis that this could be a come as you are service attracting those coming directly from work or going to ball games. Council retreat items for Outreach reviewed. Mission trip was discussed. Nothing suggested at this time. Worship and Music- Met and picked out Mother and Father s Day gifts. Kristin to order. Discussed plans for the Summer worship on Thursdays. Finance- Seem to have no issues as of date. Financials in Cross Hall. It was briefly discussed we might want to check into moving some funds around and combining. Also, to research some investment opportunities that we are not taking advantage of and also looking into ways to use money for mission. Tabled discussion. It was discussed within meeting about the possibility of not having a meeting, just to have a meeting. There will be a decision made by June 10th, whether or not Council will meet on June 14 th as scheduled. If they meet, it will follow the Thursday worship at approximately 7:15 p.m.
