1 Notes from Redeemer Our Redeemer Lutheran Church ELCA serves Hurricane Harvey victims ELCA Disaster Response team is on the ground working with officials and other agencies to initiate support and this Lutheran coalition effort will remain in the area long after many others have closed shop and called the work done. Gifts to US Hurricane Relief will be used solely for that relief for as long as there is need. Gifts may be channeled through the church, but for faster effect, your support may be offered directly on the ELCA website: Busy times ahead! September used to mean that students went back to school, but for nearly all systems, that happened nearly a month ago! It is, however, still the month when church life shakes back into full swing, Redeemer included. Sunday adult class & Sunday School power up September 10th. Adults at 9:30 in the Bethany Rm; children ages 3-13 at 10am in Rm 3. Jump Start after school activities will welcome our 22nd year of students Mon.-Wed., 4-7pm beginning September 11th. There is never enough staff time to indulge all these eager faces in one-on-one studies. Please consider giving an hour of your time each week (4:305:30pm). It means so much! Wednesday Bible study will likely resume the 13th at 1pm in the Bethany Rm. Don t forget you re invited to visit over your bag lunch at 12:30pm. Neighborhood cookout outside our doors Saturday the 16th at 12 noon. We re getting new neighbors in all the redevelopment; come be the church that welcomes everyone. We ll have another October 7th, plus a work day. Church Picnic Sunday, October 1st, after worship. Reformation 500 observation begins here with a Book Fair October Preview copies of the books will be available to peruse before ordering. And plan for dinner here Reformation Sunday, October 29th, after worship. Spaghetti Dinner/Dessert Auction fun supporting Jump Start comes along Saturday, October 21st. Advance sale tickets will be available beginning in October. To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing. ~Martin Luther Grace and peace to you, I don t know about you but sometimes my prayer life is really lacking. There are so many distractions in the world (work, family, friends, TV, you name it), that there just never seems to be time to sit down and pray. Yet, Luther reminds us of the importance of prayer. He understood that praying was essential to the life of a Christian. Prayer is our lifeline. Prayer keeps us centered on and connected to God in the midst of our day to day work. Often when we think of prayer we think of well-crafted, eloquent petitions to God, like we hear in church on Sunday morning. But prayer can be as simple as a thank you, or a stammered heart felt plea. This month my personal work is to grow in my ability to pray, to take time out every day to pray to God, and to remember that, as Luther tells us, praying is as important as breathing. I encourage you to join me on this endeavor. Pray for your needs, pray for the needs of others, pray for your dog (or other pet), pray for the weather, pray for your favorite team, just pray. Grant that I may not pray alone with the mouth; help me that I may pray from the depths of my heart. ~Martin Luther

Not one! or bring yours in! Our new 4th Thursday Out-to-Lunch Bunch is looking for suggestions for meeting places. Contact Carolyn Janson with your ideas; then watch updates to learn the location for the 11:30am gathering September 28th. Mark your calendar: our observation of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, Sunday, October 29th, will include a dinner following our 11:10 worship service. The Mid-North Pantry continues to serve hundreds each month and needs some fresh faces on deck: 2 hour shifts, Mon, Wed, or Fri between 10am-2pm at 3333 N Meridian. Join John Farrar and Pastor Josh for some handson ministry. You ll make new friends, too. THANK YOU! You raised $344 for Jump Start at the Wine Tasting event. Students, parents and IPS 48 staff will be grateful for your continued support! New Circle s speakers permanently mounted in the sanctuary will mean we can begin recording and sharing Pastor Josh s sermons!
