2 Dear Parishioners, For the Church, this Sunday is the end of our Liturgical Year. We close the year with the celebration of Christ the King. Hopefully, this past year has brought us closer in our personal relationship with Jesus. This article from the November issue of In Touch Ministries might be a good end of year reflection. No matter where we are in our Christian walk, most of us will admit that our prayer life isn t what we d like it to be. Our attempts to make room for prayer in our busy schedules are often short-lived. And when we do manage to spend time with the Lord, we find ourselves easily distracted by random thoughts, our own desires, and the demands of the day. Instead of giving up in frustration and settling for a sporadic devotional experience, we need to realize that prayer was essential to Christ and should be to us also. The road to a deepening prayer life begins with a commitment to make it a top priority in our day. We follow through by setting aside a daily time to pray and read from God s Word. Then we need to find a location that minimizes interruptions. Since we re already busy, sacrifice may be necessary to make this happen. We might have to wake up earlier, give up a favorite activity, or use our lunch hour. Scripture is a key factor because it teaches us about our Father s character, promises, and priorities. The Word of God shifts our thoughts from worldly cares and pleasures to a focus on Him. Through it, we are reminded of His importance to us and our desire to please Him. Then we become ready to ask in accordance with His will and hear what He has to say. Developing a habit of prayer may require sacrifice, but it s worth the cost and effort. Spending time in the Lord s presence is the best way for us to know Him better and love Him more. I wish to thank McDonald Funeral Home for their generosity in providing the calendars to the parish. I will be available for confession this week on Monday, November 26, from 2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs. God love you, 2
3 Reflection of the Week God is waiting for us to turn to Him so He can reach out and help. HOLY HOUR A time of quiet music & reflection Sunday 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. PRAYER GROUP Hour of praise and charismatic prayer Monday 7:30-8:30 p.m. BIBLE STUDY Scripture Reading & Discussion Tuesday 7:30 p.m. HEALING SOAKING PRAYER Come meet us to pray for healing Wednesday 6:30 p.m. Thursday 2:00 p.m. Spiritual Teaching Of Spiders and God s Presence Spiders. I don t know any kid who likes them. At least not in their rooms... at bedtime. But as she was getting ready for bed, my daughter spied one dangerously close to her bed. Daaaad!!!!! Spiiiderrr!!!!! she hollered. Despite my determination, I couldn t find the eight-legged interloper. He s not going to hurt you, I reassured her. She wasn t convinced. It wasn t until I told her I d stay next to her top bunk and stand guard that she agreed to get in bed. As my daughter settled in, I held her hand. I told her, I love you so much. I m right here. But you know what? God loves you even more than Daddy and Mommy. And He s very close. You can always pray to Him when you re scared. That seemed to comfort her, and peaceful sleep came quickly. Scripture repeatedly reassures us God is always near (Psalm 145:18; Romans 8:38 39; James 4:7 8), but sometimes we struggle to believe it. Perhaps that s why Paul prayed for the believers in Ephesus to have strength and power to grasp that truth (Ephesians 3:16). He knew that when we re frightened, we can lose track of God s proximity. But just as I lovingly held my daughter as she went to sleep that night, so our loving heavenly Father is always as close to us as a prayer. ~ Adam Holz Adam Holz. Almost all of the bids were within a few dollars of one another, with the exception of one by a parishioner who had been in business for years and had an excellent reputation in the community. This particular painter s bid was about half of his competitions, and naturally, the administrator accepted it. On the day he was to begin, the painter realized that he had miscalculated badly. Not wanting to lose the job, however, he decided to thin the paint with water. That way, he thought, he would be able to complete the job for the price quoted. A week later, he received a call from the administrator, complaining that after the first rain half of the paint had washed off the building. Being a honorable man and a good Catholic, the painter went inside to pray about the situation, knowing that his business reputation was on the line. What can I possibly do, Lord? prayed the discouraged painter. In a loud voice God replied, Repaint! Repaint and thin no more! ~ The Book of Catholic Jokes 6
