2 Dear Parishioners, On the cover, there is a picture of those who attended our Religious Education Summer Camp. They are members of Grades 3-5, who participated in a pilot program in lieu of 24 separate classes throughout the year. The students completed 30 hours in one week. During the week the students focused on developing their relationship with Jesus and learning different aspects of our faith. Their primary goal was to learn to live their faith daily with their family. What is your opinion about? How do you feel about? We hear these questions many times. We all have opinions and feelings. What is your opinion of who has the best pizza? How do you feel about Joe being named the leader of the group? Opinions and feelings are neither right nor wrong when dealing with subjective issues. But it is a different matter concerning objective issues. An example would be me saying that it is my opinion that the sun revolves around the earth. I am simply wrong. It is not true. Unfortunately we have crossed over the line in regard to moral teaching such as abortion, same sex marriage, cohabitations, stealing, cheating, etc. We have subjective opinions but do they live up with objective truth? When you enter into discussion on moral issues, you need to base your thoughts on objective truth. If there is no objective morality then it becomes a free for all. Let us take the example of a sporting team. I have an opinion that they should play certain players, trade another, get rid of the coach, or manager, and change their style of play. In reality, I have no power to make these changes. I don t own the team. God who is the creator gave us the moral code. I may not like His way for whatever reason but I don t change the moral code because it doesn't live up with my opinion or code. Today when Christians defends the ways of the Lord, many come under attack. Be strong. Our response is that we are not giving subjective opinions or feelings but rather we are basing our thoughts on the objective truth rooted in the teachings of Jesus. Woe to us if we begin determining morality by the subjective opinion of the masses. For you who are standing up for the truth remember the Beatitude in which the Lord says, Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Mt. 5: 11-12) I will be available for confession this week on Tuesday, July 28, from 2:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs. God love you, 2
3 Reflection of the Week Have mercy on us who so easily forget that we are not gods but God s creatures and beloved children. HOLY HOUR A time of quiet music & reflection Sunday 7:00-8:00 p.m. PRAYER GROUP Hour of praise and charismatic prayer Monday 7:30-8:30 p.m. BIBLE STUDY Unlocking The Mystery of The Bible Tuesday 7:00 p.m. Scriptural Teaching An Inquisitive Walk through the Scripture, 86 As we continue to look to Hebrew Scriptures to understand Jesus as Messiah, we consider the fourth reason for leaving the pagan nations in the Holy Land and by analogy, for allowing demons to tempt and humans to sin after the Death, Resurrection and Ascension of the Lord. The fourth reason was to give the nations a chance to repent. (cf. Wisd. 12:1-22) Remember that the early Church interpreted the seven pagan nations as symbols of the deadly sins which were to be vanquished. Note that it took over a thousand years for the Jewish scribes in the Book of Wisdom to record that time was also given to the pagan nations to come to faith in the one true God. It was also understood by the early Church that Jesus had commanded the Gospel to be proclaimed to all the nations. The early Church understood that sin, evil, the demonic were to be vanquished and the humans of other nations were to be seen as intended recipients of the Gospel of God s mercy. This is a very important lesson for us to learn. The early Israelite community was focused on itself and its unique relationship with the Lord. Only with time did Israel come to understand that it had a mission to share her faith with other nations. Read the little book of the Prophet Jonah. Consider God s word to His suffering servant: (a symbol of Christ) It is too light a thing that you should be My servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved of Israel; I will give you as a light to the nations, that My salvation may reach to the ends of the earth. (Isa. 49:6) Even more boldly God said: For I know their (pagan nations) works and their thoughts, and I am coming to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall see My glory, and I will set a sign among them And some of them also I will take for priests and for Levites, says the Lord. (Isa. 66:18-21) Jesus is the fulfillment of these words and the Church is the bearer of His message, as Jesus commanded the apostles to proclaim to the ends of the earth the Gospel and to baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (cf. Mt. 28:16-20) St. Peter proclaimed a similar message of time being offered: The Lord is not slow about His promise as some count slowness, but is forbearing toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Pet. 3:9) Luke and St. Paul understood this as well when dealing with end times. But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near They will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led captive among all nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. (Lk. 21:20-24) Lest you be wise in your own conceit, I want you to understand this mystery; a hardening has come upon part of Israel, until the full number of Gentiles comes in, and so all Israel will be saved (Roms. 11:25) 3 HEALING SOAKING PRAYER Come meet us to pray for healing Wednesday 6:30 pm Thursday 2:00 p.m.

As we are now in the month devoted to honoring Christ's Blood the price of our redemption, the pledge of salvation and life eternal may Christians meditate on it more fervently, may they savor its fruits more frequently in sacramental communion. Let their meditations on the boundless power of the Blood be bathed in the light of sound biblical teaching and the doctrine of the Fathers and Doctors of the Church. How truly precious is this Blood: Blood that but one drop of has the world to win all the world forgiveness of its world of sin. According to Fr. John Hardon, S.J., devotion to the Precious Blood of Christ is to be veneration on our part, which is a composite of knowledge, love, and adoration. The knowledge here speaks of the realization of what Jesus did for us; His love embraces all levels of the word gratitude, appreciation, philia (brotherly love), agape (the highest form of love selfless, sacrificial, unconditional love) and adoration a profound love, deep reverence, meaningful worship.
