2 Dear Parishioners, On Wednesday we celebrate Independence Day. It is a great day for our country commemorating when we declared our independence from England. We mark the day with parades, concerts and fireworks. Wakefield does a great job of observing July 4th. Even in our daily lives, we celebrate when our children go off and take responsibility for their lives. They no longer live dependently on their parents for the basic necessities of life. Their independence is a mark of maturity. We can also look upon this holiday with a spiritual reflection. First of all, there is no celebration of independence from God. In fact, if we were to be independent from God, we would be like a branch separated from the vine. We would die. This is why the Lord tells us that we are nothing and have nothing without Him. He calls us sheep, for a sheep is dependent upon the shepherd for protection and nourishment. If we are to be independent in our spiritual life, it should be from sin. Jesus came to set us free from the power of sin and death. When we confess our sins, we are free for the Lord forgives our sin and frees us from our guilt and shame. True freedom is to live a life of holiness, loving our God and our neighbor. CALEB'S CORNER Due to the holiday, our monthly Healing Mass will be next week on Wednesday, July 11, beginning at 7:00 p.m. with the recitation of the rosary. For one thing, His love is everlasting. He bestows it on us continuously, and there is absolutely nothing that can interrupt or interfere with it. This is because His love is not based on a feeling but flows from His very nature. Therefore, it is perfect, unchangeable, and trustworthy (1 John 4:8). In contrast, disagreements and other circumstances can cause human love to fluctuate or fail. What s more, God s love is unconditional there s nothing we can say or do to either deserve or deter it. We never have to wonder if the Lord still loves us. Every day you and I walk under the canopy of His love, which remains unaffected by our behavior, whether good or bad. Even if we wander from His will or fall into disobedience, we don t have to worry that the canopy will be removed. We did not build it, so we can t dismantle it. The source of God s love is God Himself, and His love is eternal, perfect, and without any conditions whatsoever. Notice I did not say you would necessarily enjoy life because He loves you; nor did I say that God would overlook transgressions. Disobedience is a matter of grave consequence for the Christian. Yet even in our foolishness and sin, the Lord is our loving Father, who faithfully disciplines His children. We must always remember that sin does not affect God s boundless love for us. The heavenly Father has always loved you, and He always will. As you release any misconceptions about His everlasting love, you ll be able to rejoice under His canopy. ~ intouch.org 3

Meetings are held on first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in Our Lady s Room. Next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 3. Living With Chronic Illness Support Group Support ministry for those experiencing chronic illness, cancer, or long-term medical conditions from both visible or invisible illnesses. Men s Group Men of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a group of ordinary men, seeking an extraordinary encounter with Jesus Christ.
