1 Christ Church Weekly Update November 14, 2018 Our Vision We are a growing community of believers committed to walking with Christ, welcoming all, and serving God by serving others. If it s not about Love then it s not about God ~Presiding Bishop Michael Curry Dear Brothers and Sisters, I think of this quote from Michael Curry often. It is both profound and incredibly simple at the same time. For me, it is a statement that should remind all Christians what we are to be about. I am confounded by Christians who spew hatred towards others. We are all children of God so they are actually attacking their brothers and sisters. Too often those attacks come in the most civil of ways, by standing behind human interpretation of scripture or laws created by humans in our society. It does not have to be this way. If we stop and ask ourselves if a particular action is an act out of love, an act out of God, so many outcomes would change. The word love can get watered down or trivialized. But this Sunday we will reclaim it. Our Beatles Eucharist will be centered entirely on songs of love from that great foursome. I believe hearing this music in this context will open us all up in a new way. We will have an amazing band made up of members of our parish led by Steve Laico and our full choir will be at both the 9:00 and 11:00 services. This is the perfect time to invite someone to join you in service here at Christ Church. Dear Pantry Supporter: Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry 2018 Shopping Guide Please help us make Thanksgiving and Christmas a little nicer for needy families in the Town of Warwick. Thank you for generosity in prior years by providing baskets to your adopted family. This year instead we are asking for bags of shelf-stable groceries

3 to furnish the basics, as well as supermarket gift cards in denominations of $25 to provide families with perishables of their choice. For each holiday, each pantry family will receive one or more bags packed with groceries based on size, plus a supermarket gift card. Please see below a list of the groceries we need to fill one bag. Please purchase enough groceries to fill as many bags as your pocketbook and heart allow. Also, as many $25 ShopRite or Price Chopper gift cards as you can contribute will be gratefully appreciated. 5 Advent is a time of waiting and preparation for the birth of Jesus. Spiritual preparation takes many forms. One traditional form is a retreat, a day to get away and focus on the coming miracle about to occur, a day to prepare ourselves to welcome Christ into our hearts and lives in a deeper way. Because they are on a mission trip in San Jose, Costa Rica. We are offering a retreat day at Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, NY on Wednesday, December 19 th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Mother Deborah will be the facilitator. Cost is $12.00 for lunch, plus whatever good will offering you want to give for the monks hospitality. We will eat with the monks in the refectory. They have an amazing chef, and there is always a vegetarian option. The house will not be in silence so each person can decide how much silence they want to keep. The grounds are available for walks down to the Hudson River. If you want to attend, please me, Charlotte Trott, at chtrott@aol.com by December 14 th. I need to let the guest house know by the 15 th how many people to expect. Please also let me know if you need a ride, can provide a ride, or would like to carpool and we will try to organize that. We should leave Warwick between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. to arrive in time for the 9:00 a.m. Eucharist. Why are these people smiling? Because they are on a mission trip in San Jose, Costa Rica. As members it's easy to donate -- just come down the steps from the parish hall, pass the new thrift shop sign and put your donations in the unpacking room.
