1 Trinity NOTES February 8, 2015 Dear Sisters and Brothers,. This morning I was reading the reaction to President Obama s remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast. I think what the Present was trying to say was that his Christian faith and our country have very high ideals but we have not always lived up to those ideals. Nevertheless, the President argued, we must learn from our past and strive to be better. Unfortunately, he was accused of being anti- United States and offending Christianity. The drive to be perfect is a strong one and affects every area of our lives. I am sure most of us know this on a personal level. We think we can t accept the love and forgiveness of God unless we have it all together. The fact is that we don t have it all together, which is what grace is all about. I also think we need to apply this perspective to criticisms of our faith and country. This struggle with perfection is not just on a personal level. We feel that we must hold an ideal of perfection with regard to our faith or our country. Yet, we know that the history of our Christian faith, as well as the history of our country, is not perfect. One of the lessons we are learning in our study of Dan Allender s book To Be Told and in our theme this year the power of story is that we must take the journey back and wrestle with the pain and imperfection of our lives. It is only then that we will be healed and released from the often crushing weight of our past. Then and only then will we find the way to a new and better place in our personal lives, as citizens of this country, and as Christians. Yours in Christ, Pastor Cass Sunday Schedule 8:30 Breakfast February 8 th 9:00 Choir Rehearsal 9:15 Christian Formation for Children Christian Formation for Youth Christian Formation for Adults 10:30 Worship CONGREGATIONAL CARE CORNER Please pray for Hiram Jones and for Jane Meniktos.
